Cardinal Stritch preview of the Carthage-Stritch game at 3 pm today: http://www.stritchwolves.com/news/2011/12/17/MBB_1217113717.aspx?path=mbball

Stritch is 9-2 this year and is coming off some solid wins. Should be an interesting game, and a test of Carthage having seemingly settled into a style and rotation this year.

The game will be webcast at http://www.stritchwolves.com/gameday

Noticed today that Carthage's President Campbell is going to be inducted into the Carthage athletic hall of fame this weekend. It would be tough to argue that he hasn't had a major influence on Carthage athletics throughout his years of service. http://athletics.carthage.edu/news/2011/9/25/HOF_0925113427.aspx 2011-2012 is President Campbell's last year at Carthage.

I'm inclined to think that a student-athlete who might not normally meet a CCIW school's admission requirements can still be academically successful at a CCIW school. The idea that they might be admitted despite less-than-stellar academics doesn't bother me much. Small schools, good close attention for all students, some extra motivation and attention in terms of staying academically eligible, etc.

While I certainly don't want a listing of names, it seems uncommon that CCIW basketball players end up sitting out part of a season due to academic ineligibility. Am I mistaken?

Thanks for putting that together. Shows the caliber of all the teams at this sectional, that's for sure!

Hmm... a post about refs not knowing intentional fouls when they see them, followed by a stats-filled post showing UWSP with the lowest number of personal fouls. Perfect timing ;)

It would be interesting to see that same table of stats for the last ten games.

Thanks for the assigned seating explanation...

Re: clearing the gym, with assigned seating, I'm guessing that even if you buy tickets for both games right away, you probably can't buy the same seats?

Related: Can you buy tickets for both games right away and stay in the gym, even if it means changing seats? Leaving just to stand in line to get back in the gym seems like a hassle. Not familiar if there is a separate entrance/line for those already holding tickets for games at UWSP.

Any insights are appreciated.

I'd be curious to watch UWSP game, especially under a different coach. It is probably six or seven years since I've seen the Pointers play. The talent was deep then, and the player attitudes were... interesting. Different coach can make for a different team personality, so I'm interested to see what it will be like this time around.

I'm curious about the 2005 UWSP vs. Lawrence game that caused later tournament games at UWSP to be reserved seating. Anyone care to expand on the supposed controversy?

Watching a video podcast of the Carleton vs. St. Thomas game from January 9. Want to have a sense of who I'm watching on Saturday if Friday goes well.

Varsity sports offered per CCIW school?
#13
Wheaton used to have the largest financial endowment in the CCIW. I wonder if that is still the case?

Anyone know offhand what varsity sports have been added and eliminated among CCIW schools in recent years?

I know my alma mater (Carthage) has added a few sports in recent years. Offhand, men's and women's lacrosse come to mind, as well as men's volleyball and women's water polo. No cuts in sports that I can think of for Carthage.

If Friday goes well for the men's and women's Carthage teams, and St. Thomas men's and women's also win Friday, then Saturday both the men's and women's matchups will be Carthage vs. St. Thomas, albeit a skip and a jump away from each other. (The women play in Whitewater.)

I checked the Carthage academic calendar http://www.carthage.edu/academics/calendar/ and the last day of classes before spring break is this Friday. That could make the crowd smaller, unfortunately. I think spring break should be scheduled with March Madness in mind! ;) Hopefully they don't kick the kids out of the dorms. That is what used to happen during spring break back in the day.
