Women's soccer / Re: American Southwest Conference

Congrats to the HSU ladies on the national title.  What a great match up 1 and 2.  The defending two time champ.  I have seeing this team year in and year out winning all year until Trinity would send them home.  I guess they put that ghost to bed and the rest was easy.  I may be the only one in California that has heard about this but I let out big shout out from the left coast.

Cowgirls start with two good wins in Colorado.  Lots of people scoring is good sign.

Judging from the first half against HSU the west coast speed slowed down.  From the video it looks like a very short cut grass which is great for a fast game.

It was great to see some of the game on the video all the way out here on the left coast.  I even tried to get my wife to watch the Cowboy Band do their thing.  We have a mixed marriage(she went to OBU)     I did have a problem getting the sound with the video.   I hope this means this will be available for basketball also.

The saddest thing I saw was after the game.  I walked off the field I was walking in the same area as the HSU players.  And just like a little league game I see one of the HSU players dad all over the HSU head coach.  It was not pretty.  I won't say who it was but it was a starters parent.  The guy was grabbing the coaches arm.  To which coach told him to "get your hands off me."  That was pretty much it but I really felt for the coach.  You feel bad enough losing then to have some parent goes off on you it was really out of line.   Long trip home.

Just  got bad from a very sad experience at Linfield.  First I want to take full responsibity for the lost.  This was my second west coast game and they lost both. So I promise never to go to a game out here. ( I saw them beat Sul Ross in 06)

Now about reality.
The first half was fairly even but deep into the second quarter Linfield blocked the field goal their was something that changed in the game and HSU was never the same.
My friend and I decided it came down to two huge areas that Linfield dominatied. The Off line of Linfield never allowed any pressure on the Linfield quarterback.
And the corners of HSU got killed  all day long.
The fact that HSU had two of its offensive stars knocked out early made a difference but I don't think HSU was going to win on this day.
Linfield is a beautiful school.....

All I remember was that the place was way off campus, close to where we played men's basketball.  (couldn't play on campus the HSU gym was not big enough for DI  of the Harvey Catching, and Stedman Graham days) they play at the Taylor County Col. back then.

Also thanks for the weather preview.  The only thing I have to wear with HSU on it is a gold tee shirt and I was thinking I might get cold in the northwest.

Wildcatt 11     I didn't pick Busters,  friends from Tigard did.   And about the pub thing.  HSU trainned me  to be Southern Baptist pastor and  pubs are not normally my first choice.  Having lived in the the northwest during high school  I know that the pub scence is not all crazy but still not my first pick.   Of course I remember that Linfield was an American Baptist( excuse me if that has changed) school which has different attitudes about things.  All I care about is getting some good BQ.   Oh that an seeing some good football.
It has been over 30 years since I lived in Abilene,  is that BQ place still open out side of town?

I am looking forward to my trip north to Oregon to see the game.  I will be in the right mind frame as I am meeting with some HSU grads at Busters in Tigard before the game.  Busters is all about Texas BQ.

When I checked the score of the HSU game at half time I was a bit concerned.  I have planned a trip to Oregon next week and the idea of them losing this week was not good.  I was very happy that someone at half time gave the guys the "not in our house" speech.  There will be west coast HSU alums at the game.

Ok Ralph I feel called out being one of the old HSU supporters.  This is my first year of no kids in college.  I have been watching but not posting.  It seems like the most balanced ASC I have ever seen.  That is mainly because the east is more of a factor this year.  The big three of the west continue to battle with a small edge to MCM.  HSU has certainly lost most of the swagger it used to have, but as far as I can tell can still beat anyone in the conference on a given night.  Win on Saturday gives them 11 years of at least 20 wins.  Ralph is anyone close to that?

It is the last minutes of the game and it appears that the Yellow Jackets are doing what they have done all year,  win and win big.
From a die hard HSU fan, my Cowboy hat is off to a true group of champions.

I'm sorry I have not been paying enough attention.  I just read all the posts by the Hope fans after the loss.  Talk about poor losers.  They had to know going in that playing in Brownwood was going to be tough.

Sorry my left coast reference is showing.  For me there is the west and east and the south.  I have people here who have never been past Nevada who refer as Kansas as "back east."  Clearly the midwest has been the real power area.  The year Trinity won was a real fluke because they played a Conneticutt in the finals.

Golfniz,  Ralph has for years shown that he is rarely wrong or unaware.  He is respectful of other teams but never lets anyone forget his love for MCM.
If Ralph is the Guru of DIII then Pat Coleman is the god of DIII.  Thanks for the correction on the championship site.  Michigan will be different.
