Quote from: faunch on January 06, 2025, 09:07:10 AMI was wondering if Spencer might use the NCC gig as a launch pad to something bigger but I think they said on the broadcast that he's never lived more than 5 miles from Naperville. Thinking he might be around for a while.

He went to high school at Naperville Central, about a third of a mile west of NCC's stadium.  He was a heck of a receiver at Central way back in the day too.  I've known Coach Spencer for about 12 years now, and never say never, but he's a Naperville lifer.  He's exactly how he comes across on TV, and a fixture on the NCC campus, day to day and year round.

Super happy for him for the Championship this year, and the program he continues to build.  It's a model for all top D3 programs.

ESPN's Bill Connelly ranks every college team using his formula.  He has UST just behind Platteville, and just ahead of Hope.  That would make UST the equivalent of the 8th ranked D3 team, using his formulas.

Faunch'll love that.

UST is ranked 6th amongst PFL teams.

Nice job putting this out there wm4, +k. We won't know much about Linfield until their 10/14 game against George Fox. The Wildcats are just a top notch program year in and year out however it's usually tough to tell where their place sits within the elite. To me, they are always right there. Well, let the speculation begin.  :)

Sooooo early in the season, and looking forward to this week's games.

My point is that this arena was up until today always being promoted as a hockey only arena...don't take this the wrong was...as a resident of St Paul and a Johnnie alum....U$T can't be trusted.

Yep, those scheming Tommie's, up to no good.  What will they think of next, Faunch?

Agreed Duffman.  What the hell was the Queen rendition at end of game?

Thank you.  You don't mess with Freddie Mercury.

I don't mind the psych music but my buddies and I are prolly some of the only old timers in the stands who truly respect "Get off your ass and Cheer".

Dusty, Carrbo, and crew do it right!  Happy that the Duff crew sits near you.

As a band, Queen is *really* aggressive when it comes to restricting and policing how their music is licensed and used.  Just spitballin' here, but perhaps that's the reason why the original version is not used at SJU games.

Smaller sample size this week, but woah some wide views on teams.

St John's and Bethel, 1-5
LaCrosse 1-6
CMS 2-9

I'm all in on LaCrosse, really like their season and how they're playing, they impress me and I think are under the radar in the region.  Sure they lost the head to head with UWW, but it was a super close game and they've been the most consistent WIAC team in my view.

Really cool to see CMS pulling away in the SCIAC.

Only one week left, so fellow voters, please get your ballots in early so 02 Warhawk can get 'em out.

  1)  St. John's (3)          89      ( 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4)
  2)  Linfield (3)            85      ( 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 6)
  3)  Bethel (2)              79      ( 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5, 5, 5)
  4)  UW-LaCrosse (2)         77      ( 1, 1, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 5)
  5)  UW-Whitewater           69      ( 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5)
  6)  UW-River Falls          46      ( 5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 8, 9)

  8)  UW-Oshkosh              27      ( 6, 7, 7, 7, 7, 8, 9,10, -, -)
  9)  Claremont-Mudd-Scripps  18      ( 6, 8, 8, 9,10,10,10,10,10, -)
10)  UW-Platteville          11      ( 8, 8, 8, 9, -, -, -, -, -, -)

RV)  Gustavus Adolphus        9      ( 9, 9, 9,10,10,10, -, -, -, -)
RV)  George Fox               6      ( 7, 9, -, -, -, -, -, -, -, -)
RV)  Redlands                 2      ( 9, -, -, -, -, -, -, -, -, -)

Take a snapshot of these rankings...gotta be a first.  4 teams receiving 1st place votes, and split just about as evenly as you can among them.  One voter's #1, is another voter's #6.  And SIX teams from one conference in the top 10.

The WIAC circle of craziness looks like it'll continue until the last week of the season.  For now, I have it as UWW (3), UWO (6), UWS (7), UWP (8) and UWRF (9)

It may be a fan poll, but we take our voting quite seriously  :)

Dang, this week'll be fun.  The cool part about the WIAC is you get ton of meaningful games and use them to figure our order and logic.  Until you can't.

Meanwhile, Linfield just keeps taking care of business out West.

Looking forward to Carlton having a fair test this weekend.  And surprised that UWRF still @ #6, given their loss to Platteville.

I'm high on Linfield, I have them at 3.  Undefeated and winning in solid fashion.  I have them above SJU.

PLU beating George Fox was a surprise considering they did it with the back up QB after he was knocked out in the CLU game the previous week.  PLU has a decent defense and run game.  Chapman is down this year based on their record and watching them vs CLU earlier this season.  P-P seems to be the team to beat this season in SCIAC, but CLU can play with anyone when they play defense.  Six straight shutout quarter with second half shut out vs PLU and Whittier game.  Redlands game will tell a lot about CLU and if they are good or not.  This is a very interesting/competitive year.

Really appreciate the info and perspective on the SCIAC/NWC.

Sure, comparatively speaking, Mount and NCC "haven't played anybody" yet this year (though we all know Wabash is a worthy program, just down a bit this year).  That said, both Mount and NCC have crushed every opponent so far.  We know what good football looks like at the D3 level, and they're certainly playing very good football to this point.    In my view, one does not need to draw on past year's performance to gauge this year's teams.  They're really good.

Also, huge tip of the cap to SJU, UWW, UMHB, Hardin, and others, for really playing grade A non-conference opponents to start the year.  It's made September fun to follow and none of those teams should be overly punished by voters for outcomes in those game.

Only 4 weeks into the season, and to me the biggest question mark at this point is Linfield.  They've only played 2 games and have looked pedestrian in each.  October will give us a better read on how they are this year.
