What a battle last night in Lexington!  Noke and W&L always seem to come down to the last minute(s) as it did last night.  And in true rivalry fashion some controversy with W&L's goal to tie things up.

Roanoke 1 Gboro 0

Caught the 2nd half of this one.  Seemed pretty evenly matched in terms or possession, I'd have to give the edge to Noke (I swear, no bias) in terms of offensive chances.  They were much more dangerous in the final 3rd.

Noke is pretty upper classmen heavy this year and added a few international players.  Admittedly, I pulled up the roster for the first time this morning, so I'll be able to give better player analysis going forward.

Tough match for Noke this weekend in Maryland vs Salisbury.

Go Captains!  The Swarthmore GK's antics during PKs left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Congrats to Swarthmore on advancing.  Can't say that I enjoyed the antics of their GK during PKs.  Talking sh*t to every Noke PK taker as they approached and then taunting them after his two saves.  Be better than that.

Makes me want to root for the Captains today.

Good luck to the remaining schools!

Annnnnnd the chippiness has begun.  I LOVE it!

The box score doesn't tell you everything.  W&L was very lucky to not come away with a L in our first match.  Noke hit the crossbar late in the 2nd half along with a few other chances.  I watched the match and the starting late in the 2nd half and both OTs were very much even with both teams pressing forward.  It was a fun one.

Didn't catch the ODAC semi match so cannot comment.

This is a fun time of year.

It was also the only good shot Roanoke had outside that beautiful corner/header. Nokes' keeper kept out 3 or 4 of W&L's chances that were really solid. He had a very good game. W&L outshot Roanoke 12-3 in the second half and I remember possession being pretty lopsided until very late when it evened out. I'll grant the overtimes were much more even but I remember the Noke keeper laying out pretty good for one of the overtime shots. But we all remember things differently.

Good luck to you man.   Let's hope the ODAC makes a nice showing this year.

Weather is looking dicey in Newport News for Saturday.  Windy, rain and in the 40s.  No thanks.

I must say all the hosts this year with grass fields that I'm aware of have traditionally always been extremely well maintained (CNU, MWU, And W&L) so hopefully field conditions don't have an impact on the results this weekend. Messiahs field is okay, not as nice as the other three which have Short Bermuda grass. I'm just happy there isn't a team like Etown or Muhlenburg hosting whose field could definitely influence a result.

W&L's field is the best field I've ever played on. It was like a damn fairway at Augusta.
I'm proud to say that ALL of W&L's athletic facilities are either top notch or about to be. Both soccer fields were rebuilt to top tier specs in the mid 00s. With the current rebuilding of the gym and wrestling facilities currently in progress, and the recently finished natatorium, there will be almost no facilities that have not been completely rebuilt since about 2000 when the baseball field opened. The Duchosis Indoor Tennis Center, temporarily hosting basketball and wrestling, might be the oldest facility. And it is still one of the best indoor tennis centers in D3.

I'm obviously biased here, but 45 minutes down I-81 south you'll see what Roanoke College has built in regards to athletic facilities.  I'd put it up against any D3 school in the nation. While I'm proud of what they've built, I'm also pissed I didn't get to enjoy facilities like that when I played 1999-2003.

Tell me about the Garnets?  Style of play?  I see they've beat a few tourney teams.  TIA

Yeesh!!!!  Friday's match looming LARGE.  Can't believe Noke put themselves in this position.

You're right, the whole unbalanced conference scheduling might be backfiring on them.

What am I missing in yesterday's USC rankings?  Noke ranked #4 in South Atlantic, which I'm fine with.  But to have Oglethorpe (who Noke beat 2-0 on Sunday) receiving more votes than Roanoke?

Something seems off there.

Yikes!  Think Oglethorpe has had enough of the ODAC?   0-3 vs W&L, Lburg and Noke.

Roanoke and Lynchburg playing a non-conference match in Lynchburg.

At the half:  Roanoke 4  Lynchburg 0
