Not that it matters, but what was the weather like at SU yesterday?

Regarding the officials, my guess is that they do only college, but are not limited to ODAC games. Probably USASAC as well. Who knows, officials  from yesterday might do CAC. I suspect where the refs live and where the games are has a lot to do with the assignments.

I would go the other way and suspect that they work HS games to pick up the extra money.  Most officials do multiple sports (seasons) and multiple levels.  There was a DI/DIII/HS lacrosse ref who was also a top ACC basketball ref.  Just not that many officials to go around.  Given the the number of DIA /DIAA/DII games around the country each week these officials are probably a bit down the food chain, but who knows.  Travel is a definite influence on assignment.

The spotting to the nearest yard has been going on for years, I think it is to speed up the game by reducing measurements.  I don't think anyone in the ODAC is happy with the officials.

We are going to have to get a whole lot better in a hurry or this will be a long season. Too much talent for this kind of offensive performance.
Coach L has no confidence, he is competing against the past instead of competing against todays opponent.  Have a plan and run it.  If it was a bad plan learn and move on.  He is letting the moment beat him.

This is a remarkable statement and what I've basically been saying since he was hired. I have no doubt he's a fine coach. I have no doubt he'll be a very good head coach. But when he was hired it was asking a whole lot for him or anyone to replace Abell. I assume WL has a HOF.  Coach Abell will be in it. He was the best coach WL ever had and he was replaced with a position coach.  As it was said - good to learn from a win and not a loss. D3Football might have thought it was not worth mentioning in their pre-season preview but Abell leaving IS the story of WL football this fall.  Can LeRose handle calling a game?  Can he make necessary adjustments?  Can he get the players to buy in?  Can he do all the little things required to make a team great?  Time will tell. It's not that I don't have faith that he can. But seldom does a coach replace a legend and not see a dip.

HSC game postponed til tomorrow at noon.

Davidson is winning 27 -0 at half with nearly 300 yards rushing.

Hasa it sucks for Bell to have those stats wiped out. But I bet the GC DC is elated. 58 points allowed in 47 minutes- ouch.

Davidson (DI no scholarships) is playing a DIII school. Shrug. I hope Abell wins enough there to keep him out of the ODAC for the next 10 years, I'm not confident that will happen.

People forget that Abell was a high school coach and never played college football when he was hired by W&L as the OC.   He was a successful recruiter because he was idolized by VA high school coaches for his mythical national rankings at Amherst.  I'm not sure the recruiting success will follow him to NC.

There was a lack of energy on the offensive side of the ball, I'm assuming if number 6 had been dressed that would have been different.  Biggest difference last year was the energy on the sidelines....

Well... you take your first road season opening win in 49 years however you get them. Congrats Generals!
I've never seem them win opening on the road!!!  Something Coach A could never do!

Better to learn in a win than a loss but this was not good.  Good special teams (minus the muff) and good defense.  Offense...

They clocked the ball with a TO inside the 10 of dickinson on 2nd down with 50 seconds left!!!!!  Oh my, not prepared for the moment or confident.  He is coaching scared.

Have we run a sweep? Have we used the slot? I don't get it. There is a playbook with more than 3 plays, right?
Tried the sweep twice and got stuffed and hasn't gone back.  He wants big yards instead of setting up with 3-5 yard plays.  Only passes have been in obvious situations.

Coach A would use the reverse if teams were over pursing to the play side...

Play calling has gone like this. If Breece is on the field we run up the middle. If he's not, we run a speed option. A pop warner team would have picked up on this by now.

This is hard to watch.  I didn't anticipate this on offense.  Bad play calling and a complete lack of confidence.  He wants 15 yards a play instead of setting big gains up.  O doesn't trust him either.

Announcers for MUC obviously did not do their homework on WL.  Predicting WL to have less than 100 yards rushing and constantly calling the plays WL run as "tricks". Have they never seen the option?

No one has seen the option the way W&L runs it. :-)  Breece finished with over a 100.  Generals finish with 220 rushing.  Had hoped for a td but it is what it is.

W&L defense was legit.  Great season for the Generals for remarkable considering they are missing their starting qb and running back.  Hopefully this season will lead to more recruits next year.

Graduation rate only applies to seniors on the roster in the general sense. The APR looks at who started as freshman and graduated within 5 years, whether they stay in the program or not, but generally graduation rate is just those on the roster.

As the one who set this off, it makes no difference who MU plays at QB.  The difference in the lines (both o and d) will allow MU to dominate today.  MU could start their right tackle at qb and win by 50+ (probably by 60+).   MU had nothing to lose by saying the qb would be suspended this week until they looked into the matter further.  They would have won both the press conference and the game.  Not what I would do but I'm not them.

As for graduation rates and the like:  most D3 schools NEED high retention rates and hence also high graduation rates.   Most schools are tuition driven and hence need to keep students.   I understand this and DO NOT JUDGE those schools.  You can get a great education anywhere it mostly depends on the student.

MU uses their football as their biggest selling point.  It is their national branding.  They HAVE to win to keep up applications.  Football is a major priority for their school's success.  This is similar to lots of major football schools.  Virginia Tech grew in academic standing because they went to a BCS championship game.  W&L is different and that is fine too.

I have had few college athletes skip classes over the years.  Those that did, usually didn't stay in school long.  It was tough on the players the year the DI women's basketball team practiced at 5:30am, but my players always made it to class!  Huge time commitment for college athletes.

Best wishes to all.  I hope everyone keeps their ears warm.

Status as a member of the team unchanged.  W&L doesn't have the same priorities as most D3 schools, I still would have turned down the bid. :-)

Glad the Generals get the experience of playing one more game, NCAA can keep the rest.

Hope you enjoy the trip birddawg79.

If it was a home game or if they had scored a match up with Berry I might have been able to push it off, but I fear a game in Alliance really holds very little interest for me. Congrats to the Raiders. Your streak of excellence never fails to amaze me.
I agree, I probably won't even check the score.  No offense to MU but I really don't care about the DIII playoffs... this is just a weekend for the guys to have one more game and another road trip together.  I gave up on the NCAA two years ago with an undefeated Generals team playing on the road.

It was a GREAT year for the Generals.  Still not sure how the EH game happened but it did.  Generals defense was built to be good in the ODAC and it was.  MUCH better line play this year.  I hope they can recruit more numbers but the team dynamic looked much improved this year.  The loss to JHU came because Coach A trusted his defense to get a last stop, they didn't.  Later in the year he did the same thing and they did.  I doubt he wins ODAC coach of the year but I think it was his best job coaching.

Only problem is that HSC gets half time to reset.  I don't think the tigers look as bad as the score.  W&L has had two good drives, a busted coverage, and a pick six.  The last two W&L scores are on HSC, the first two you expect with the W&L offense.  Poor use of timeouts by the squids as well.

Generals have only rushed for 219 and will most likely be held under the season average as they will go in score protect mode.  I'm regretting not heading over for the game today.

HSC with the ball first.

Wow... terrible targeting call in the HSC-W&L.  Huge loss for Generals.

Overall yesterday went as expected but the Generals got extra motivation due to the entire Sewanee team walking the field and thru the Generals as they warmed up prior to the game.
Beautiful weekend in Lexington.

I arrived late and missed this!  I now understand the "tension" between the teams.  Generals could have rushed for 700 yards if they wanted, complete control.

Generals had 4 picks and could have had more... I agree that 3rd down wasn't good.  I didn't feel like W&L brought as much pressure as they had in the first game.  Hard to take risks when your O is scoring tds and D holding them to field goals. Also hard to judge the Generals in the second half with so many young players out there.

I still don't think W&L has played their best.  They will need to play better to win an ODAC title.
