So, those $100,000 in student loans not enough for you?  Now, Derek Jeter's favorite "Saint" is facing the wrath of the IRS in another edition of "Sad But True"...

http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Fan-Who-Caught-Jeters-3000th-Hit-May-Owe-IRS-Thousands-125406723.html

Ha! It gets even better!....
I love the line "Jeter should do the right thing" ....get real, this kid was out of Jeters throughts the second he had the ball in his hands.  He didn't do anything besides take a couple pictures and sign a few items, the yankees organization took care of the other stuff.

It is too late to take the ball back and negotiate the correct way?

If I am not mistaken, the guy who gave the ball to Jeter was compensated with use of a luxury box, plus a multitude of other signed items.

I heard it on ESPN, if that can be considered reliable.

I am glad that the fella' offered the ball back. It is good to see that everyone is not greedy.

The Yankees gave him the stuff after he returned the ball, he did not negotiate for it.

Compensated with the use of a luxury box??!!  How is that at all tangible? Sure a nice gesture, but that last I checked Yankees suites don't pay mortgage payments or electric bills.

Greedy?  Come on now.... Jeter's 2011 Salary is: $14,729,365..... What if you wanted him to do something nice for you?....do you think he would show up for free?  Haven't you seen the Bronx Tale?

I would have given him the ball, but he would have had to throw me more than an autographed bat and some home game suites.

Speaking of St. Lawrence, Derek Jeter's 3,000th hit has some ties to the LL -- specifically, the Saints.  Go midway through this story for the link:

http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=6752505

Speaking of this 3,000th hit and the guy giving the ball back- FOR NOTHING.....
I get it....you're a fan of the Yankees and Jeter, you want to do the right thing.... but what about making a quick $250k+....Why not milk the story out and go on Oprah's new show?  Why not arrange a meeting with Jeter and negotiate it for weekend rights to his penthouse?

Don't they teach you guys from St. Lawrence anything?

Have to make a rare summer appearance because I had an LLPP-related dream last night; I dreamed that I met the Regulator, and that he worked in an office, and that his computer was set up to notify him whenever a woman used it, so that he knew when the people in his office (mostly women I guess) were goofing off. He said it also protected against my friend Clint (whom I know from San Diego and whom I'm guessing Reg does not know) from using his computer as well.

That's all; carry on.

Weirdest.  Story.  Ever.  Except for the part with Clint.  He sounds awesome.

Is it possible to get a virtual restraining order?  I definately fear more for my well-being than I did before reading this post.

Would I need to use max's moniker or real name?

PS- have Clint facebook me, he sounds totally normal.  :-\

or 5,200 concurrent wireless interweb users.  I'd imagine that they could pack that stadium if they had some sort of virtual, in-person quake tourney.....or world of warcraft convention during a football game.

I don't see it filling any other way, unless RPI is playing union and Justin Bieber is MC'ing the event (union fans <3 the Bieb).  Any normal saturday afternoon will be standard attendance of 325 people.

Man I love the East!  Over in our land (the OAC board) it's so boring.  Other OAC teams fans come on the board to honk their team's chance against Mount/in the league...and we as Mount fans basically laugh them off of the board.  It's boring....really.   ;D

Just an unrelated story/question....

My son (RB) and his best bud (QB)are pretty good high school football players just finishing their freshman years.  If they grow/get better, they will both be two or three years starters in high school.  The QB is also a reallly good LAX player, and will start as a freshman this year.  I was talking to his dad over the weekend, and we were saying how cool it would be if these two could stick together in college (they have been best friends since 1st grade).

We both don't have any wild notions that they will be good enough to play D-I football, so we were talking about all the D-III alternatives.  I mentioned that there are teams (mainly in the East) that are D-I in LAX, but D-III in football, and that could be an option for his son.  I proceeded to say that possibly my son could tag along as a "throw in" deal.   :)  I then mentioned Hobart as one of those schools.  Great school....not that far from us....near wine country....perfect!  I then went on their website and found out that it's $52K a year to go there??  HOLY CRAP!

State school (Kent)was good enough for me......it will be good enough for Jr.  ;D

TGP....does Hobart offer D-I athletic scholarships for LAX, and do kids earning them generally play football or is that a no-no?

Sknunks, some of these schools will give you 40K in scholorships before you even fill out a financial aid form.  If you are your average American two income family making 40K-80K a year, these northeastern schools will give you aid right off the bat.

.....and the only committment you have by accepting that money is to pay it back 80% of it when you are done with school! (the other 20% should be taken care of by some type of scholarship funding)

Seriously, the cost of some of these schools is getting out of hand.  Unless your son is good at football or really smart (academic scholarships) then it wouldn't hurt to weigh the alternatives.

Listening to the sour announcers on the Union webcast is making my head hurt.  What a bunch of cry babies.

Whhhhaaaa, the officials lost us the game!
Whhhaaaaaa, I have never seen anything like this!

Whaaaaaa, we don't know how to kick an on-side kick!

Whhhhaaa, RPI fans couldn't fill their stands.

That hurts.  Excellent burn.

Lol.  Why were you listening to us?  WRPI picked up the game later, no?

I wanted to hear "Unions side of the story"

Very glad I tuned in.  Now I know how the loss will be justified.

****ing karma sniper really burns dlip's little britches!!! We can't even have some plain old rivalry fun without getting sniped.

Wasn't me dog.  I was pumping my face with Pumpkin Spice beers for lunch.  +k for being pathetic.

LD with his only friend left from his RPI days

Usually I come to this site for a quick chuckle, however, this argument has gone from pathetic to absurd.  Are you guys for real or is this some kind of lame joke?  Karma snipers?.....pics of a guy sitting alone with the "only friend left" tag.

Wow

Nah, Can't be holladawg

It's obvious with the quote "Why would you tase me?"....holladawg would have most likely had something much cooler and in the 3rd person (of course) to say, like "Who Dat gonna tase holladawg...WHO DAT?

and I doubt HD would have been wearing swimming goggles.

Doid, This is an interesting twist!  Everyone (including me) has been blaming the local officials here!

Umm, OK, wasn't talking about you, but rather the media and others, who have been blaming the firefighters for not putting out the fire. Okay? OK!!

No, I really believe the media has everyone thinking that we should be blaming the officials.  I literally had no idea that they tried to implement a tax in the past, where it was voted down.

Excellent detective work!

The Cranicks said they also forgot to pay their fire service fee on time about three years ago. But the fire department then did not hesitate to put out a chimney fire and let them pay the fee the next day.

That's very telling. I feel very bad for these people, I truly do, they seem like decent enough people. But in the end, at one point you have to take responsibility for your actions, and unfortunately, it cost them their house.

As to the reimburse the actual costs of the fire, well, I agree with an earlier post, what are the odds of them getting that money?

Another point, I don't like how Olberman (well, let me stop there. I don't like Olberman period) and others are not reporting a key fact that I posted above, or that the issue of raising county taxes to cover the cost of firefighting were brought up in the past and denied in favor of the subscription/ fee policy. Trying to take the moral high ground against the firemen/ dispatchers/ town officials. Heck, even the Firefighting Association bashed the firefighters. Again, somehow the firefighters are apologizing to the people who once again didn't act responsibly, both in failing (again) to pay the fee and burning trash on their property.

In the story I read, the homeowner offered the firefighters whatever they wanted to charge, but they refused anyway.

Depends on which story you read.  I read that he offered to pay the $75....not whatever they wanted to charge.

"But I'll pro-rate it!!!
