U of D is always one of those schools that can fly under the radar. Similar playing style to Loras in the fact that they usually depend on sheer athleticism rather than go the possession route. No doubt that strategy is working for these Dubuque schools since a large number of years Loras has been successful, and Dubuque hasn't been out of the running for the IIAC in the last 5 years either.

Will be interesting to see how everyone looks come conference time! My Wartburg Knights came out with a win against Illinois wesleyan today in what should have been less close than what it was. The Burg went down early in the second half and it took a freshman goal late to win it. Oh well, good teams find a way to win regardless of how they showed up to the field that particular day. Knights will have another test tomorrow against U of Chicago. Will be interesting!

Looks like Wartburg tied St. Johns today. Will be interesting to see how they respond tomorrow against Knox. Wartburg started strong but fizzled out in the middle 45 minutes only to come around at the end for a tie.

Johnnies score a second to go up one, and one of Wartburg's defenders finishes a PK top shelf in cold blood. Game ends in 2-2 draw.

Johnnies on another set piece. 2-1 St. Johns midway through the second.

Johnnies come out with fire and score off a set piece and some lack of marking by Wartburg. 1-1.

Wartburg up 1-0 on St. Johns at half. Forwards look to be scrappy and most of all, fast. Wartburg dominating posession and the Johnnies don't look like they want to be there. And that's with two of Wartburg's captains (and midfielders) out with injuries. Looking forward to the second half to see what the Johnnies will bring to the table.

Nobody doubts Loras' domination in the last 10 years Kickin....sheesh. Just remember, there are still two games left in their season. Making it as far as they do consistently is no doubt impressive, nobody said it wasn't. But until they hoist that trophy in the air and bring it back to Dubuque, getting that far won't mean as much. They're the team that almost made it. The team that was almost good enough, but couldn't get over that hump.

The fact that they postponed this game due to snow on the field is absolutely ridiculous....they had an entire day to remove it I thought??

Looks like Simpson rolled over BV 7-0 tonight as well, in addition to Wartburg beating Luther 1-0. Shocker of the night (for me) would be Coe beating Central 1-0 to earn a spot in the conference tourney! This tourney is lining up to be a good-looking one!

Simpson beats Coe 3-0.
Wartburg beats Central 3-0.
Loras obliterates Luther 5-1.
Dubuque beats BV 4-0.

Nothing terribly shocking here, except perhaps the Loras/Luther matchup. I figured Loras would win, but sheesh, not by that scoreline. Any thoughts?

Oh good for you...

Well I'm back on board the Wartburg bandwagon after falling off and being run over a couple of games ago. Big game to say the least this weekend against Loras..It's always interesting to see Loras play away from the Rock Bowl.

If any Loras fans want to buy me a beer..I'll see you at The Foot.

Obviously you're going to be pro-Wartburg biased, but what do you think is going to be the score of the game on Saturday?

I'll chime in to this question as well, if you don't mind NCAC :) . I tend to think the East Coast bias only aids in helping all of the midwest's soccer programs just in the fact that not many teams know of the teams that well. It adds a flame under our butts if you will, and only adds to the satisfaction when the teams we root for can fly under the radar and do well in the national tournament. With the exception of Loras and Wheaton (both of these two teams' storied success this last decade have not gone unnoticed), not many Easterners could name a couple competitive teams or even players from the Midwest. Teams like St. Johns, St. Olaf, Carleton, MSOE (although the rise of the Andryk brothers has helped them), Wartburg, Luther, and Univ. of Dubuque often don't get the recognition they deserve. I'm confident that if the above 7 teams went out East and played some teams out there, the competitiveness of these teams and the scorelines would catch a lot of people off guard.

Some schools don't even have announcers, so anything more than nothing is certainly an improvement.

Ah! My mistake. Loras over Simpson 3-1. Not the other way around.
