Yeah, according to the Kalamazoo website, a high school GPA of 3.0 gets you $21,000 merit scholarship.  That certainly goes up with the GPA.  And, does not reflect need-based institutional money.

Could you post a link to where you found that exact information?  I am interested to see how things may have changed since my time there and I am having some trouble finding that particular piece of information.

I should probably have my 9-year old look for it.  He is way better with a computer than I am.

I would hate to see Coach Smith leave 'K'.  I thought we dodged one when the rumors about Northern Michigan were posted a while back and am hoping this is just a rumor as well.

He has done a great job amidst a variety of challenges and has the program ready to move back to a place it hasn't been on a consistent since the early to mid-90s.  I h*p* we see him on the sideline in orange and black for many years to come.

I think it actually means that the streak ended at 74 and they started a new streak this year...which will come to an end next year.

Stinger, you can breathe a sigh of relief and know that it won't be Matt Neil.

My guess is that K will have a new coach by the end of this week.  I heard the names of the people they brought to campus but have no idea who will be the final choice.  I haven't seen any of the finalists names show up on this board yet, but Steve Bell was correct (isn't he always?!?) about one of them.  I do find it funny that nobody has chosen to just come out and say his name (and that now includes me).  K had a lot of success with the last Division I assistant they hired in Coach Haklin and here's hoping they find that again in their new hire!

I am very sorry to hear of Coach Dougal's resignation.  The record of this year's team may make everything I am about to write seem crazy, but I really think he was making strides in moving the program in the right direction.  He was a tireless recruiter who had done a good job of bringing in some talented players during this time at K.  Stinger, the low number of recruits had more to do with the lack of a JV program - a financial decision - than on a lack of recruiting.  I watched most of the 'K' games this year (none in person, unfortunately) and you could tell that something was not quite right.  Kalamazoo should (could) have beaten Alma twice and the end of those games showed what made Alma so good and why K struggled.  Alma had unselfish players who bought into a system and made plays when it mattered.  They played together and at the end of those games were composed and did what they needed to do to win.  The Hornets seemed to each try to make the individual play and have no direction.  Is that because Coach Dougal had no plan of what he wanted the players to do or that the team had not bought into that plan?  I am fairly certain that Dougal had a plan.  To bring things back to Alma again, I enjoyed their success this season and found the stories on Coach Hargrave's building of the program very interesting.  They were at an important crossroads a few years ago when they were just starting to win and this year's senior class chose to stick together and keep believing in the goal.  They added some important pieces and look what happened.  I think you see the other direction that can go in the Kalamazoo situation.  I would compare K's junior class to the senior class at Alma (not player for player, but just the fact it was Dougal's first class and the one to start a new direction for the program).  Those guys came to the same crossroads this year and took a different path.  Ultimately I guess that all comes back on the coach, but I also think it is the players' responsibility to fight through some adversity.

Donor must like bowling.

Probably the start of a bowling program - http://www.ncaa.com/sports/bowling.

Looks like Trine is continuing to take a page out of Adrian's playbook.  And when I say book, I do mean book...http://www.amazon.com/Crisis-Higher-Education-Colleges-Transformations/dp/1611861543

D3hoops.com poll:  http://d3hoops.com/top25/men/2015-16/week6

Hope  #9
Alma  #21
Trine   ORV

A case could be made for Alma being ranked ahead of Mt. Union I think.  Alma has a better poll win (and best win) over #9 Hope vs Mt. Union over #12 Chicago and 3 of 4 losses rank better than Mt. Union's on massey.   Alma, Mt. Union and North Central are the outliers with 4, 4 and 5 losses so little to complain about.

I can't remember if Kzoo ever got a vote back when they had the Rheinhold's and Phillips, it seem like they might have.  Also can't remember if the Olivet teams with the McClary's received votes.   If they both did then I think all 8 MIAA teams have now received votes in the poll at some time.

I do know that 'K' was in the rankings back in 2003 after beating Wooster in their tournament - http://www.d3hoops.com/top25/men/2002-03/week5.  I thought they may have been ranked the year before, but couldn't find them in the archives.

Trine 77 Kalamzoo 59

Nice bounce back win for the boys in blue today at Hershey.  Final score is a bit misleading as the game was tight for the first 27 minutes before the Thunder had a big run to put the Hornets away.  Holmquist with 30 today.  Probably on his way to another player of the week in the MIAA.  Only negative from his play today was he had a few too many unforced turnovers.  Actually that is one of the things I've noticed from this years team is we aren't quite as tight with the ball as compared to last years team.

Kalamazoo is a little better than what I expected from a 1-12 team.  Dickerson was pretty impressive, only a freshman.  Dykema got off to a fast start then disappeared, but that had a lot to do with Trine clamping down on defense the 2nd half.  Way too many turnovers for Kalamazoo.

I have watched a lot of the 'K' games this year and I keep waiting for them to break through.  They have stretches in every game where they play really well and they have been getting solid contributions from a variety of players.  What has spelled doom for them in most of the games so far has been a stretch where they give up a big run.  Against Trine it was at about the 13 minute mark of the second half.  Against Wheaton it was 16-3 to end the first half and Trinity it was 16-2 to start the game.  Bluffton it was 22-6 to start the second half.  I understand that it is very simplistic to say if they could avoid those big runs that those games may have been different, but I do think they are going to surprise some folks as league play rolls along.  No better place for their first league win than at Albion on Wednesday...

It makes one wonder why  Olivet fired Gene Gifford 3 years ago.

Unrealistic expectations.
