"Agree with Toad---much prefer to be a net supplier of talent from D3 to D1, rather than a hampster accommodating D1 transfers to build a marquee sport."

Jumpshot, is that a slam on Amherst?  Don't worry, I don't think Williams will be a "net supplier to D1 programs" anytime soon.  Enjoy rooting for the purple team from Western Massachusetts this weekend in the Final 4.

When are the All-NESCAC teams announced?  Before or after the NESCAC Tournament?  Do the voters take the tournament play into consideration when making their final selections?

I totally agree with you amh70.  That lineup of Green, McCarthy, Berman, Racy and Conklin is a good one.  Berman is not looking to be a hero and just facilitates the offense (as a point guard should), getting people the ball in the right places.  Things seem to flow better when he's out there, although he does tend to get stuck in tight places and prone to turning the ball over.  When Dawson is out there, he is looking shot first, pass second, so a lot of the perimeter players end up forcing bad shots because they know they will have limited opportunities on getting good touches.  The offense just seems more stagnant when Dawson is running point.  Could go either way with George vs Conklin.  Each have their unique strengths, but Conklin seems like the more solid, consistent big at this point.  Highly doubt Hixon will change up the starting lineup at this point, though, so late in the season.

Amherst just figures out a way to win, consistently.  A lot of weapons, for this level.  Shooters.  Bigs.  Good players coming off the bench, who would be starters on many other Nescac teams (Riopel, Conklin, Berman). Well coached team, who just know how to finish games out when it's close.

Besides scoring, what are the other strengths in Hausman's game?  Does he rebound well?  Does he pass well?  How about his defense?  Does he ever match up with the opposing team's best scorer?  I have not had a chance to watch any Bowdoin games online this year.

Amherst really needs David George to start playing better.  When he came into this league I thought he would end up being a dominant player.  He has the kind of size and athleticism you don't see in the Nescac too often.  It's not that the Amherst perimeter players don't get him the ball on the post.  They look for him down low, but he just needs to learn a few power moves where can just take it strong to the rim.  He tends to shy away from taking it right into the chest of his defender. But he is only a Junior and still has room for  improvement.  Amherst needs him to play well against the other bigs in the league such as Hudnut, Palleschi, Kuo, Delpeches, etc.

Totally agree with you Nescac.  Dawson can be spectacular at times but can also be detrimental.  In games like today when your point guard is taking 18 shots, all the other players just tend to stand around and watch.  There's no flow to the offense.  Berman at least gets everyone involved and moving.  Just don't see Hixon starting Berman, though.  He's going to ride with Dawson for the rest of the season.

My sources at the game say it definitely wasn't an offensive foul.  Didn't push off with his arm, refs should have let it go. But doesn't really matter.  Amherst didn't play well and Colby wanted it more. But the refs in Waterville are always homers.

Nescac24, keep in mind that Green has a career 8-2 record vs Williams and I'm sure you have a lot of "moments" of he and his teammates consistently dominating your team over the past 4 years.   Great players find ways to win.

Boy tough not giving Joe Reilly the nod.  He really deserved it with that championship season, and the win over Cosgrove in the tournament.

It's ridiculous, Green should have been in there.  You go with the guys that got you there.  Even if Green's shots weren't falling, he could have helped in so many other ways.  He hardly played at all in the second half and already had 8 rebounds when he got pulled.  What would he have ended up with if he played the full game, 13-14 rebounds?  Plus just the experience factor.  Green has played in national championship and national semi-final games for Amherst in very pressure-packed situations, in front of crowds of 4,000-5,000 people.  He is used to the intense atmosphere that existed in the Trinity gym on Sunday, and would not have been as nervous as some of the younger Amherst players.  The Amherst players look to Green as their experienced "elder", and he wasn't out on the court to be that calming influence.

I could see if Racy were red-hot and Hixon wanted to keep him in, but Racy was missing all his shots.  Let's face it, Hixon tried to get cute, and it ended up with one thing  - a LOSS. Curiously, Hixon put Green back in with only 1:30 left in overtime.  What did he expect Green to do at that point, coming in completely cold after sitting for so long?  Although Green did make a spectacular offensive rebound, skying completely over his defender and being fouled, getting 2 free throws as a result, it was too little, too late.  If Hixon was so worried that Green would spoil the game for Amherst, why did he even bother putting him into the game at all, in overtime?  The only chance Amherst had in beating this red-hot Wesleyan time is if Green were in the game during the homestretch, and for some reason that just didn't happen.

But hey, the Lord Jeffs have another life.  I'm sure Green and Hixon have talked things over, and hopefully Green is mentally ready to play on Friday night.  Hixon needs him.

Lumbercat why do you refer to this team as the "Mighty Jeffs"?  I think you are confusing the past tradition of Amherst with this year's squad.  Remember this is a team that finished 5th in the league, and only has one upperclassman (a very good one, albeit) that plays, with the rest of the team consisting of freshmen and sophomores.  I actually think this team over-achieved this year by getting to the Nescac finals, and probably getting an NCAA bid.  Whether your intentions are deliberate or not, you seem to be over-hyping this "mighty" Jeffs team.  Next year, maybe they will be mighty, but this year was a quasi-rebuilding year for this Amherst team, and their season isn't over yet.

Does anyone know the seating capacity of the Trinity gym?  I may not be able to arrive to the Bowdoin/Amherst game right until the 4 pm tipoff, and I was trying to get a sense of whether the game might be difficult to get into.  I believe someone posted earlier that the Trinity students were not around this weekend, so I'm guessing there will be plenty of open seats for the game, especially the Bowdoin/Amherst contest.  I think I remember the Trinity gym being pretty large from a seating capacity standpoint.  Anyone have any perspective on the crowd sizes for this weekend?

Wow, Nogelo must have been good.  Never saw him play. Jumpshot and Nescac1, did you ever see Matt Hancock from Colby play, in the late 80's?  Kid scored over 30 ppg his senior year, tops in the country, and totally dominated games.  He was only about 6'1 but could play any position on the court.  Got invited to both the Celtics and Warriors rookie camps.  Duncan had a good freshman year and had tremendous upside, but not sure he was the player that Hancock was. Not as tough. But that was a different era....

Interesting response from that D1 coach, bucket.  It's very hard to tell.  But I do still believe there is a large gap between D1 and D3 players, in terms of speed, body strength, athleticism.  Maybe not so much in skill level when looking at the more elite Nescac players, but they are the exception.  Not to mention Division 2.  Have you ever been to a Bentley, Stonehill, St. Anselms game?  Every time I go to one of those games, I think to myself "wow, these guys are much better than the D3 players I've seen".  I guess the natural progression in talent from D3 to D2 to D1 only makes sense, since it reflects the recruiting strategy of the coaches involved and who they're willing to throw full scholarships at.
