Apparently SOS is important in FBS.  Just thought I'd pull that scab off for fun!!!!

No more letting off the gas when we've put a game away! I like the "Leave No Doubt" mantra!

By not letting off the gas, I assume you mean to leave the starters in and run up the score. Do you really think it makes any difference if you beat St. Scholastica by 50-7 versus 80-7?  If the game is already put away, then there already is no doubt. It would be better to put in 2nd stringers to give them some game experience, not to mention risking injury to starters when the game is already decided.

There's this word called "sarcasm"....also No Doubt is what the Linfield posters came up when they got snubbed for the playoffs years ago.  Their point was  win every game from there on out, get the automatic bid, and don't leave your fate in the hands of the committee and their arbitrary decisions on who gets at large bids.

After having to explain all this, I'm now officially crawling back under my rock Duff...

Now that I kicked that hornets nest, I'll crawl back under my rock.

LEAVE NO DOUBT 2024!!!

If the theme for 2024 in Collegeville is "Leave No Doubt," then my penchant for picking the Johnnies to beat/cover the spread should sit well next year.

Should we apologize in advance for hanging 85+ on St. Scholastica?

Yup, starting right now....

LEAVE NO DOUBT 2024!!!

You know it's the postseason when oldsju67 crawls out of the woodwork!

I guess I could go watch the BBE Jaguars play in the state semis next Saturday...

Redtooth inspires me...

Maybe we're looking at the SJU snub all wrong?  First off, by MIAC standards, they're the 3rd place team in the league.  Regardless of SOS, region wins and whatever tea leaves we use, how can you take the 3rd place team in a league if you're not taking the 2nd place team?

On that note, Coe is the 2nd place team in the ARC, behind Warburg, who is 3rd in the D3 football.com rankings. Maybe Pat and crew's opinion is subconsciously more important than we know to the committee and they see the ARC this year as an overall stronger conference than the MIAC.  THIS IS PAT'S FAULT!!!!

Now that I kicked that hornets nest, I'll crawl back under my rock.

LEAVE NO DOUBT 2024!!!

I was never convinced the jays were in... a 28 point blowout in week 2 and losing to an average and unranked Gustavus did us in. Our sloppy and undisciplined play caught up with us. If this team had got a playoff spot i would have been surprised with a win...hopefully this "snub" makes the coaches and  players hungrier.
SJU wants to be viewed as of the great d3 programs in the county..too 4 is where they expect to be...this team wasn't close. Time to get to work figuring out how to shore things up for next season.

St John's FAFO'ed the whole season with their play.  Today they found out...

I recommend SJU schedules Northwestern for all NC games moving forward.

Beyond the disappointment I have in SJU not getting selected I also believe we need to shine the light of transparency on both the committee and the selection process moving forward......the 241 teams that play Division III football deserve and need to know what metrics matter and how they will be evaluated every year with some consistency.  I know, Win your conference and you are in, is a favorite mantra from fans whose teams are selected....but if you have at-large bids available in any quantity, teams need to know how the evaluation process will work.  Both D2 and FCS teams have a very clear picture of how playoff selection works.  Why D3 decides to write a calculus equation in hieroglyphics (which both D3Football and Logan Hansen were able to decipher) only to erase their formula to create an outcome that their equation didn't support....is beyond disingenuous to the student athletes.  I write this opinion from a place of having been a former d3 player, former d3 coach and former d3 AD.  No one knows how or who will be selected other than the committee that year and with committee turnover the criteria is totally fluid from year to year.

I have poked fun at Frank Rossi on this board over the years, but today he deserves huge kudos for asking questions that needed to be asked....although getting a blank stare in response by the Chair.....GUTLESS!

I also want to wish the best to Bethel and Steve Johnson!  He is a great coach and person that will be missed.

I for one look forward to the renewed Northwestern of Roseville vs SJU rivalry.  Quintuple Monkey Stomp games are always fun!!!!

FWIW...I've played and or have watched football for 45+ years, and I just don't understand why teams line up in shotgun or pistol formations on whatever down and goal to go needing a foot AND THEN RUN THE BALL!!

That's interesting.  I remember when Ramler was OC, SJU went almost exclusively shotgun/pistol, and it annoyed the hell out of me.  I guess it hasn't bugged me as much recently, probably partly because SJU's been more successful and partly because it's more commonplace in college football.  I'm definitely not an offensive guru, so I don't know the reasoning behind it.

The thing that killed me about that series was that I thought we should have thrown one up to ALar and/or run some type of jet sweep to the corner.  As mentioned, Wartburg was not going to give up yards (inches?) between the tackles in that scenario, and that has been a pretty weak spot in SJU's offense all year.

Duff, don't think I wasn't sitting behind you watching you yell "Just sneak the damn thing!!", because you know I was!!!

FWIW...I've played and or have watched football for 45+ years, and I just don't understand why teams line up in shotgun or pistol formations on whatever down and goal to go needing a foot AND THEN RUN THE BALL!!  There must be some analytics out there that says you have better than a 50% chance of converting, but man, the teams I watch sure don't.  At yesterdays SJU game, every one in the area I sit in just yelled in unison to QB sneak the ball when St John's had the ball 2nd and goal from a foot out.  And do it three times in a row if you have to!  I get that Aaron is smaller stature, but come on.  A former SJU QB legend sits behind me and made the comment that Alabama runs their offense out of the gun too, but in goal line, the QB is under center.  Last I heard Alabama in general has a pretty good football program.  I just don't get it...
From what I saw Wartburg was selling out to stop anything between the guards and it's not like an offsides penalty is going to hurt them when it's already that close so they're going to get a good jump.

As an old offensive and defensive lineman, that's a given in my mind.  I guess I should have said that.  That being said, it still doesn't change my opinion.

I'm pretty sure it was the SJU Abby monks singing "We Are The Champions" at the end of the game for all you grinches out there...

That was my thought, but it was terrible.  Ugh.  Who thought having a bunch of men who have devoted their lives to the Catholic faith should cover a flamboyant, glam-rock icon?

Or.... https://youtu.be/gL4mZngP1Gc
I wish I would not have started to listen. Turned it off.
The monks in my time could really chant.
Sunday Vespers in the old Church was/were awesome!

So much for my theory.  Man that's bad.

I know I lurk a lot more then post in here these days, but man this has to be the most boring and quiet week going into a first round play off game in my 20+ years of following and posting on this board.  Ice Bear not withstanding.... Maybe we should pay someone to pretend to be Lake Forest fans and stir the pot in here!!!  I know Central has posters, where the hell are they?!?!?

Going back to my cave...
