Borchert put up one year numbers that should have him enshrined on that alone.

I think Bama will pull ahead on this game but I hope it shuts up some of the Bama should be in the playoff folks

They certainly have zipped lips now  ;D

So when do we see Herbstreet go on a 5 minute rant retracting his previous crap about Indiana and SMU not being worthy?

That Bama team deserved exactly what they received.  Don't lose to Vanderbilt and piss down your leg against a bad Oklahoma team if you want in the playoff.  The fact that they got dominated by Michigan with both of their stud DT's opting out is even more telling.

I hate it when I root for Meat-Chicken [Michigan] football.
I agree I bet TSUN on the money line 6:1 and after collecting I felt like I needed to take a long hot shower to wash off the funk.

Quote from: augie77 on December 22, 2024, 09:29:57 PMThose Augustana teams employed multiple quarterbacks during their 1983-86 championship run.  Defensive tackle Lynn Thomsen started every game during that run and graduated with a 49-0-1 w-l record and is in the College Football Hall of Fame.  The one tie was 0-0 versus Elmhurst in the 1986 season opener.  Augustana started the 1987 season 10-0 before losing to Dayton in the playoffs. The 60-game unbeaten streak remains a record across all divisions of college football.

Mark Lovdahl started all those games too I think.

i was thinking the same thing.

140+ freshmen and almost 1/2 from outside Ohio.  20+ from Florida again.

Quote from: Raider 68 on August 08, 2024, 04:30:25 PMShould North Central just be awarded the National title now, since they have the significant
majority of All-Americans? :o

Did that work when it used to be Mount Union that had the significant plurality (not majority) of All-Americans?
They didn't bu they almost could have.  ;D

Quote from: D3fanboy on July 16, 2024, 07:48:47 PMTaking an easier route to the postseason and recruiting as a "perennial playoff program" or "yearly competing for a national championship" probably brings in a lot more freshman football players and their tuition checks  more than being "sometimes the 2nd best team in the OAC" or "hey, we beat Mount that one time!"

Last year JCU football rostered 141 student-athletes-they're doing just fine.  The totality of institutions do not boil down to their win-loss record in football.  How strong is an educational institution if its entire identity is wrapped up in football?  I think framing JCU's move as a football-only or even a football-dominant decision is really missing the forest for the trees.

but just as you have suggested for the other side of the argument Wally that is speculation also.

Quote from: joelmama on July 11, 2024, 09:41:37 AMIt might at some point require scheduling some of the D2 programs in OH/PA to fill in a spot with a quality opponent.

would not shock me if the number of D2 programs in OH shrinks dramatically in the next few years

there is a program right up the road that would be a quality non-conference game after a year or so.  I wonder if they would be up for a "rivalry"

I would hope that there's occasionally a John Carroll-Mount Union non-conference game on the schedule, agreed.
I think the odds of that are slim to none unless/until Mount falls to the level of an "regular" D3 team.

Quote from: LG67 on May 01, 2024, 07:38:10 AMThe "norm" seems to be 10 teams in a conference.  Currently there are 32 teams and 4 conferences in Region 4. Will conferences of 8 teams be able to find 2 OOC opponents every year?
Quote from: LG67 on May 01, 2024, 07:38:10 AMWell if they are 8 team conferences then they need to find 3 OOC games every year to make a 10 game season.

Wouldn't a good solution be to have the HCAC and OAC merge into a 16 team league with two 8 team divisions (move Wilmington to HCAC division and have a couple of crossovers each year?

Now Mount Union will never lose the OAC!!!
Was there a time when they didn't?

This is the total athletics spending by school, per the EADA reports. While some schools may spend disproportionally more on football (like Mount, I would imagine), this is probably a better overall comparison. Some schools have much higher "not allocated" expenses compared to others, much of which probably goes towards football in one manner or another. For example, some schools may lump all travel into "not allocated", while others break it down by sport.

Ohio Northern - $5,278,248
Baldwin Wallace - $4,659,646
John Carroll - $3,956,466
Mount Union - $3,853,504
Marietta - $3,545,882
Muskingum - $3,284,053
Otterbein - $2,992,563
Capital - $2,792,461
Heidelberg - $2,138,483
Wilmington - $2,017,584

Two things that are somewhat surprising from the list - how much more ONU spends compared to anyone else, and how low Heidelberg is despite having success in most major sports.

Using mc1983's EADA report numbers (just one year's data), I played with the following extrapolation:

Column 1:  School
Column 2:  Athletics Spending
Column 3:  Football Spending
Column 4:  Football Spending as a % of Athletic Spending (Sorted by this Value)
Column 5:  Average Football Finish of the Last 5 (Non-Covid-19) Years
Column 6:  Best Football Finish in the Last 5 (Non-COVID-19) Years
Column 7:  Outcome Bettor, Worse, or Same Than Investment, Given Outcome?  (Bang for the Buck?) ... Subjective

Wilmington   $2,017,584.00   $462,909.00   22.94%   8   7   Worse
Heidelberg   $2,138,483.00   $482,851.00   22.58%   5   4   Worse
Mount Union   $3,853,504.00   $724,917.00   18.81%   1   1   Same
Ohio Northern   $5,278,248.00   $896,006.00   16.98%   6   4   Worse
John Carroll   $3,956,466.00   $632,541.00   15.99%   2   2   Better
Capital          $2,792,461.00   $394,647.00   14.13%   9   8   Same
Otterbein         $2,992,563.00   $414,524.00   13.85%   9   8   Same
Muskingum     $3,284,053.00   $417,432.00   12.71%   7   T5   Better
Baldwin-Wallace $4,659,646.00   $572,398.00   12.28%   3   T2   Better
Marietta   $3,545,882.00           $383,204.00   10.81%   5   3   Better

The total size of the student body may play a part also since in 1983 Mount had about 1000 students and now 2200?
