SCIAC RECAP....

The Puppies versus the Tigers. Any logical football analyst would pick the Tigers, but I am loyal so I am picking the Pups. Word is Maynard has been busting balls all week. So the Pups either roll over for a belly rub or come out like Pit Bulls. I think the Pups will try to run the ball on Oxy...if they have some success they will win. The Tiger are going to run Do 35 times, they will mirror LV and Chapman's game plan. I will be curious is the 22 pups decide to man up just out of pride.

Chapman versus the Poets. No doubt who win, only guess by 40,50,60....The real question is will Chapman' stud running back play after getting dumped on his head,  in the third quarter. He never returned, the young mans health is more important than records. He is a fine young man, based on personal experience.

The Leo's versus the Regals. I think coach Mac is going to have the Regals ready, just a hunch. The Leo's can space in games they think they should win,  such as first half of Whittier and CMS game. It will be a real gut check for the Regals, I am going to play my hunch and go with the Regals in this one.

I would like to say it has been a fun season, but not really after witnessing UR play like Pups. However hats off to the Leo's for the championship. I know they worked real hard in the offseason, committed senior class. Cheers...

OldDog no comment on the Battle for the Peacepipe.... errrr I mean Sixth Street?

It's a total embarrassment that they renamed that game, really takes away from the rivalry in my opinion.

Leo's take a knee out of the shotgun?  ???

Looks like La Verne is going to seal it following an onside kick return inside the Chapman 15 yard line
#4
Dawgs strike again, 35-0
#5
George Fox has the highest resolution video streams I've seen
#6
The Poets looking really rough. They had a third and short and follow it up with 2 false starts and then a pick. 21-0 Dawgs half way through the first
#7
Disastrous first drive for the Poets. Incomplete pass, snap over QBs head for huge loss, followed up by a pick 6 on third and a mile

Olddawg I'm totally with you on the administrative issues. The new admin doesn't prioritize athletics at all which is sad given the proportion of male student athletes within the student body. And drawing back to the uniforms, it wouldn't be an issue if we had simple, clean Unis similar to Linfield. The font on the numbers is hideous and Russell uniforms are unattractive because of the cut. They make players look add when compared to Under Armor an Nike fits. In the grand scheme of things it shouldn't matter much but it is the first thing a recruit sees when looking at a program and it makes a poor first impression.

My biggest worry with the team currently is the lack of aggression in the trenches. I know they are young but if none of them play with any real aggression I can't see them improving. I know Lucore is an excellent OLine coach but if there's no fire I don't see the struggles stopping.

If Maynard leaves and Good (or somebody similar) takes over expect to see Redlands in the bottom of the SCIAC on a consistent basis. Redlands is expensive, the facilities are subpar (besides the actual playing surfaces), and the Unis are really unattractive to recruits.

In regards to the talent being down, we have been over-recruiting the Northwest (about 20% of the roster) while ignoring Northern California (only about 10% of the roster). The NWC schools do a better job of both grabbing the better NW talent and Northern CA

I agree RFB, different level of support for the team. Appleton still comes around but as a fan. Remember when Redlands built their lockers and fitness center, along with practice field. Even then there were plans to expand, second story, coaches offices meeting rooms etc... They were a leader in facilities at that time, now the money has gone other directions. Other schools have passed them. Heck their facilities rivaled most D2 and 1AA schools 15 years ago. Yes they did put in a sports turf practice field but that was more school use issue over football or any other sport. I just heard the men locker room is finally getting AC and all the shower now work.

Now the school is on a diversity kick at the expense of all programs, and the school has had it easy in terms of generating record enrollment numbers due to the crisis in our State and UC system. Heck they backed off their numbers this year due to housing shortage.

Appleton was a driving force for getting the turf practice field. Current admin couldn't care less about athletics. The U of R men's  locker room is an embarrassment. There isn't even enough space for players to get ready at the same time.

What a pitiful performance by UR. Disappointment all around.. What I'm most puzzled about is the decision to start a different QB. I don't see how Avila #13 has enough upside (in size, arm strength, accuracy, speed, decision making or leadership) to warrant deseating a 2 year starter / captain. The whole program looked dysfunctional. If this continues its going to be a long season and a very long Saturday at McMinville.

All NWC Teams have been released

Congrats to all of the selections and special congrats to Alex Hoff, he has to be one of the most explosive DEs in DIII, very deserving of defensive player of the year honors.
