Hi Ex.  I responded after reading several pages back where there was banter about coaches who were brought in and individuals who ended up playing there.  I just want everyone to know that Lance had a huge say in everything, even though he didn't coach a position.  Nothing was done without his approval.  He was the recruiting coordinator for Frank Zolich at Nebraska when they played for a national championship.  He is a master recruiter and he recruited his butt off every year he was here.  I talked to him last week and told him I can't wait until he turns Buffalo's program around so I can tell him he's "still doing it with Berezowitz's guys."  Some guy named "Oldpa" on here wrote "I'm glad he's gone.  He's been interviewing for years.  He was handed a powerhouse.  Anyone could have done what he did.  If there is a hero there it is Borland."  I lost 50 points off my IQ just reading that!!!

I am new to this.  I have read this seemingly endless stream of blogs.  I want to preface my comments by saying that I played for three years for the late, great Forrest Perkins, and another 2 for the great Bob Berezowitz.  I have remained active with the program since the early 80's - booster clubs, attending practices, as well as visiting the football office a couple times a week.  LL got the Hawk job in 07 for 2 reasons:  1.  He was far and away the best coach available, and 2. The other candidate was despised by the entire administration, coaches included.  Had the other candidate gotten that job in 07, you would have seen skid marks from Brian Borland's vehicle leaving Perkins Stadium.  LL got him to stay.  That's right - the BEST defensive coordinator in DIII would have been coaching somewhere else!!!
So then LL has to fill the OC vacancy.  Who does he get?  Jim Zebrowski.  That's right - he talked a successful head coach at Lakeland College to come to WW and take a subordinate position.  His staffs have been picked apart since he arrived here, and he continues to replace quality with quality.  Andy Kotelnicki is an offensive genius!!!!  They all belong at DI.
Let's talk QB's.  6 titles, 5 different QB's.  Danny Jones sent out his hi-lite tape to all the playoff teams from the 06 season.  LL called him within 15 minutes of Danny sending it out!!!!  15 minutes!!!! Why, you ask?  Because even though he had not yet coached a DIII game, LL was far and away the best coach in the country.  He is meticulous.  No stone goes unturned.  It was LL who invited Danny and his dad here for a visit.  He sold the program to the Jones'.  No one else.  End of story!!!  Jeff Donavan was here to play baseball.  Football was secondary.  It was LL who talked Jeff into dropping baseball for a year, get in the weight room, and be a team leader.  (Believe me when I say the head baseball coach was pissed) The result?  The most gifted talented QB to ever play here.  Period!!!  Matt Blanchard transfers here.  You don't think LL had a hand in that?  Lee Brecke transfers here from Lacrosse.  Matt Behrendt.  Did he recruit them all?  No.  Was he a major reason for their success?  You know it!!!  He was an all-conference QB himself for God's sake!!
I am fortunate enough to be on one of the screening committees to find the next head coach.  During Dean Paul's meeting, he answered one of the questions by saying "I learned a long time ago that you will not please everyone in this business."  I replied, "I hear you Dean.  There are still morons who follow this program that think A.D. Paul Plinske made the wrong choice when he hired LL in 2007!!!!"  Staggering!!!  109-6.  6 titles.  6 National Coach of the year awards.  Yeah - he was the wrong pick!!!
