Ugly game for the Gusties today in St Peter.

1st half was VERY physical and relatively well played by both sides.  Seth had a huge first half to keep the Gusties in the game.  Taylor Hall was held in the check for the most part and forced to shoot from the outside.  The 2nd half was all Taylor Hall and good Bethel defense. The Gusties struggled to get any open looks and Seth had to force a bunch of shots...it wasn't pretty.

Of course the game wouldn't have been complete without some terrible MIAC officiating.  A number of WTF calls that had Hanson as angry as I have seen in years.   The officiating did not cost GAC the game but crippled any chance of a rally.

What is going on at Bethel?   Playing GOOD defense?  Not bombing away from behind the arc???

Auggies very impressive in the 2nd half at Gus Young court.  Auggie guards outplayed the Gusties throughout the game.  Van Sickle got hot in the 1st half after getting some wide open transition looks but simply could not find open shots in the 2nd half.  The Auggie defense was very tough and physical and took advantage of the facts Coombe and Co. were not going to blow the whistle...credit to the Auggies for adjusting to this.

Even knowing the top half of the MIAC is fairly balanced I did not expect the Gusties to struggle this much after the huge win vs. St. Thomas.  Hopefully the Gusties can hold on to the #2 seed in what should be a wild finish to the MIAC season in the next couple weeks.

Coombe is still terrible.

That may have been worst Gustie game I have ever had sit through...29 turnovers...yuck.  The Tommies were better at every position, end of the story. 

MIAC officiating still horrible (both ways) especially in the first half...Coombes sp? refuses to blow his whistle.

I still have the Beaver Den shirt...wear it once in a while to remind myself of that great weekend and the girl I got it from (hope the wife isn't reading this)   I think that it would definitely spruce up your attire!!

1) Very entertaining game...couldn't have asked for more except for a GAC win.

2) The officiating was horrible at best.  If those were the best 3 officials the MIAC has George has some serious work to do.  I really loved the call when UST passed it in the backcourt and it deflected off of a Gusties player's head and went out of bounds and they gave the ball to GAC.

3)I loathe Archer.  He makes me want to puke.  I wonder how long it will be until he draws a technical for his constant flopping.

4)I feel bad for Wittwer.  The  player control/charging foul on him when the Gusties were up 5 was huge momentum shift.  It was horrible call on another UST flop.    A few minutes later he makes a great play to throw it off the UST defender on the inbounds play, goes up for a two handed dunk gets hacked and doesn't get a whistle. Coach Hanson was actually on he knees for a second yelling at the official.  Shortly after this he fouls out to end his career at GAC.

5) GAC still has a couple of chances in the last minute to but come up short.  Van Sickle takes a very tough long 2 attempt with 17 seconds to go.  I would have like to see him pull the trigger on the 3 instead of taking the tough 2.

6)Still love my Gusties and D3hoops.

Gusties win 71-70 in OT.  Can't believe I didn't make the trip down to St. Peter for the game!
