Knight2Day, Taking shots at other coaches at Calvin and other people on this board are not the way to go about this. Please have some dignity on the posts so you don't create a worse image for the other Calvin fans on the boards, who enjoy reading and writing about our beloved school, even if they happen to have had a terrible year.

Thank you.

Just for the record I am not a Grand Rapids Christian fan and have no ties to the school.  I just think that it's not impossible for the best HS team in the state to beat teams in a mid-tier D3 conference.  To your other point it's not uncommon for Calvin's volleyball team to beat D2 teams in spring ball and "hang with" lower level D1 teams.  So it's not impossible for a team to play up and win. I am probably wrong that they could win 10 games, but the MIAA, MI2A, MI double A conversation was in need of a topic change.

I think where you're going to lose most people is with the ten win number. Big difference between competing with/hanging with and being at a level that will win ten conference games. For ten wins you're basically talking about sweeping the bottom half and splitting with the top half - that's just straight up being better than most of the league.

You have to believe that this year in the MIAA they sweep Olivet and Adrian. I think they also win at least one game against Alma, Albion, Kalamazoo. They also have a chance against Trine and Calvin. I think they get to 8 wins this year and get to the MIAA tourney.

I am just going to throw this out there, I think Grand Rapids Christian HS could win at least 10 games in the MIAA this season, maybe even win it.  Feel free to laugh at this and call it insane or impossible, but I don't think it is as crazy as it sounds.

I would tend to agree with you YK14. In the weak MIAA this year, I think they are pushing for that 4th spot. Keep in mind that they won a lot of their games by 30+ points and hence could make the kids on the team more disinterested when they played them the second time. They have two legitimate Power 5 level kids on their team and two that are MAC players.

I would be very interested to see how they would compete in the MIAA.

Anyone else think that Tony Canonie should have won the league Defensive POY? Seemed like he was always guarding the other teams best player and seemingly shut them down.

Brink needs to have a very large second half for Calvin to have a chance to win.
How about that zone kvs has been using?!

Also, who can we expect to breakout off the bench and help them get to the second round? (Denney? Huizinga? Visser? Kronemeyer?)

I'm going to ask this question over on the women's side as well.

If the Calvin women win the first two rounds, is it likely the NCAA puts them on the road for one of the Regionals to reduce the chances of Calvin hosting all rounds?  And does that mean if the Calvin men get through the first two rounds, they have a good shot at hosting one of the men's Regionals?

According to the Hoopsville interview with Dave Martin, women's national committee chair, the possibility of Calvin hosting throughout has come up but no decisions have been made ahead of time. He seemed very comfortable with the idea that Calvin could go the entire tournament without hitting the road.

Now, the monkey wrench in that, beyond the Calvin women simply losing, is if the Calvin men survive the weekend and turn out to be a central location that all four teams in the sectional could bus to. Being a year ending in an odd number, the men get hosting priority so if the situation is such that the men's committee chooses the Calvin men to host, the Calvin women will be hitting the road no matter what the women's committee thinks of the idea of them staying home.

Thank you ... a very helpful and clear response.

I think the men get through their pod this weekend as KVS's system is built for tournament teams that have not played against him. Realistically though, what are the chances of playing at home for the second weekend?

If they do get home games, their chances of making it to the final four go up significantly. Would love to see them make a final four run with the MVP Jordan Brink leading the way!

Brink does deserve this award for all of these reasons posted by HCG. Every team that did not alter their defense for them, well we saw we he can do (games against Hope, specifically). Teams need to pay so much attention to him and I did not see another player in the conference that required this attention to defend.

Also note that many times he was defending the other teams' best player - getting it done on both ends of the floor.

A KVS twitter account has started to make an appearance. Quite funny

What is the twitter handle so we can follow this account?
