Unfortunately the basketball season ended for both Roanoke and HSC today.  Congrats to both teams for advancing to the Sweet Sixteen.  Another good season of ODAC basketball.  Now we enter the time of year where I get bored because I don't have basketball games to attend.

Now that all ODAC teams have finished their seasons, I would like to wish all of the student athletes who have finished their college basketball careers the best of luck for the remainder of this school year and in their future.

Not his fault.  Google Maps made the change and the user cannot do anything about it.

HSC plays at NYU on Friday at 4:30 versus Redlands.

Roanoke plays at Trinity on Friday at 4:15 versus Catholic.

Lacrosse and baseball teams will be on campus.  Lacrosse has an away game Saturday, so they likely won't be back, but baseball will probably come out both days.  Last year, a lot of guys remained on campus for the games and then left as housing allowed students to stay to attend the games.  I do think the student support section will be decreased, but I still think they will come out to support the team!

If HSC wins the first two games, they are likely headed to NYU for a neutral site game with Tufts.  A whole lot of things can happen though.  That is why they play the games.  Good luck to Guilford, Macon, and Roanoke in the tourney.  VWU appear to have been two spots out of making it in according to NPI.

Congrats to Guilford for the ODAC title.  Should be 4 ODAC teams in for certain now.

As for the comments on officiating, I try not to comment on officiating as it relates to a particular game because I believe it sounds like you are blaming the officials.  I do, however, believe that officiating is very inconsistent, even within the same game.  You have to allow some contact because they can't play the game with no contact, but you also have to control the level of physicality to protect the players and integrity of the game.  This year I've seen it goes both ways and there has rarely been a happy medium.  The officials have called ticky tack fouls with little contact or they've allowed a lot of contact with no fouls called.

I believe I disagree with Seatfiller on one thing.  He pointed out a foul discrepancy in the Lyn - Roan game.  I have no problem with that.  Nothing in the rule book says fouls should be about even.  I've heard HSC fans near me talk about lopsided fouls calls and pointed out that we are settling for jump shots while the other team is attacking the basket.  How the game is played by the teams determines some of that.  My 2 cents, so it probably isn't worth a lot!

I haven't commented because a work obligation kept me away from the game on Wednesday and it was hard to see some things on the computer feed.  I am willing to offer some perspective on what has been going on a little later, but I don't have time right now.

No, Roanoke plays Lynchburg.  Bracket is set.  It doesn't reseed.  Guilford plays Macon.

Roanoke moved up to 27th in NPI, so they should be in good shape.  Macon moved back in front of HSC.  (Note: This is all based off of the D3datacast NPI.)  It's nice to have D3hoops, d3datacast, hoopsville, etc. to provide resources so we know what is going on in Division 3.

Seat filler,
Roanoke is tied at 2 with HSC.  They split the regular season, so that doesn't break the tie.  So I believe it goes to a point system based on seeding.  I believe HSC would beat Roanoke out on that based on their win over Macon and Roanoke's loss.  Someone more knowledgeable can correct me if I am wrong.

It would become very interesting if Macon were to lose one of their remaining 2 ODAC games because that would put HSC, RC, and RMC in a three-way tie.

I will say this, if Macon wins out, they are #1 again and HSC and RC would meet at the Civic Center on March 1 for the rubber match if they both win their final ODAC game and win their 1st round game at home.

Thanks Desi!

I should also mention that Roanoke also has a chance to pick up another quality win against HSC tomorrow and improve their NPI.  It is a two-way street!

Tigerfan,
D3Datacast currently projects Roanoke as a solid chance to get a pool C.  VWU is on the bubble and Guilford as probably out.  They project that HSC and Macon are a Lock/Near Lock.  This is of course why we play the games.  See what happens over the next two weeks!

By the way, HSC would be ahead of Macon now in Regional Rankings based on the NPI numbers at D3Datacast after their victory over Guilford.  D3Datacast was about 5 hundredths off of what the NCAA had as the difference between HSC and RC at the 2nd regional ranking.  Roanoke is another opportunity for HSC to pick up a quality win and improve their NPI more.

Tiger fan,
You ready to do "the worm?"

Roanoke is 37th in NPI and VWU is 38th currently.  A lot of basketball left to play, but unless they improve their NPI, they will be hoping for few upsets in conference tourneys or have to win the ODAC tourney.  Guilford isn't ranked in the Regional Rankings, so they have an even more difficult road to get in without winning the ODAC tourney.

Yes Macon is ahead by fifteen-hundredths.  If HSC defeats both Guilford tonight at home and Roanoke on the road on Saturday, the quality of the wins may make that up.  Have to see if that happens and what happens after Macon plays VWU next Wednesday night when HSC is off.  At this point, you take care of what you can and, for HSC, that is Guilford tonight.  The next game is always the most important!

Safe travels to everyone who is going to games tonight!

Five teams do look secure for the ODAC tourney, but finishing 4th instead of 5th gives you a home game against the 5th seed in the ODAC tourney.  That is something to watch for as well.  Tiebreakers could come into play!
