Forget the QB play, there was no reason to only run the ball with Jamar Baynard just 4 times (got 1 pass completed to him as well) in the 2nd half.  We were only down by 7 and we go away from our best offensive weapon and throw the ball with a pair of guys who can't throw downfield.

Offensive Line was decent and the defense which struggled in the 1st half, only allowed 85 yards in the 2nd half. We struggle with penalties every year.

Time for Khaaliq Burroughs at QB for Wesley

Wesley finishes up 6th ranked for the year.  Callahan and Shade make D3foootball.com 1st Team All-Americans.  Schmidt makes 3rd Team.  Not too shabby.

Very happy for our 5 All-Americans but how is Joe Callahan not the Offensive Player of the Year.  2 Straight Years it has just been the 1st Team All-American that had a better Championship Game offensively despite it being called a yearly award.

To be eligible for a CoSIDA Academic All-American award, you need to have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA.  You can check the CoSIDA website to see who was All-America and All-District and I'm pretty sure CoSIDA lists the GPA's in their release if you are really interested in the specific numbers.  I personally wouldn't release the GPA unless it was the key factor in receiving an award (i.e. Academic All-America), if it was a very high GPA and I'd still ask the athlete if he/she was okay with it being put out there.

Congrats to Joe on being a finalist for the Gagliardi - an award he should definitely receive.  Curious about the All-Region teams and how Jamar Baynard was left off, however!

The coaches and players from Wesley cannot worry about the name on its opponents jersey like they were last year.  They need to play their game, rely on their athleticism and speed which was and I still believe is better than Mount Union's.  Take notes from what John Carroll did to Mount Union last year and it will be competitive, like playing man-to-man throughout the game and not deep zones like what Wesley did in the Semis.

Last year was the year for Wesley to win it and I never understood the defensive scheme they played against Mount Union last year.  Wesley was much more athletic than John Carroll last year, and John Carroll played man against Mount Union which gave them trouble.  I still believe that Wesley was a better team than Mount Union in 2014 but I think fear might be the factor and now we'll never know what could have been.
Arguable for any year that Wesley has gone deep in the playoffs to be "the year." 2010, you have a healthy Ellis Krout and you may have an answer vs. UWW. 2011, Wesley was literally one or two dropped passes from winning that game in Alliance. 2013, one mistake from winning (Punt Return TD, pick-6 etc etc). I dont understand where you say fear would be a factor.

I  think that it is too early to be discounting the Wolverines D in terms of the remainder of the year. If the playoffs started today, of course they would be in trouble, but they dont. Wesley still has the athletes (while no Kapepula) to improve and compete at a high level. Depth on defense will be interesting however. There are even more unfamiliar faces in those ranks.

Fear was shown by playing zone the entire game when you have the athletes to match up man-to-man. If John Carroll can do it against Mount Union and give them trouble, Wesley should be able to do the same since they have better athletes in terms of speed.  Not to mention you can count the number of times they blitzed in the Semi's on one hand.

We lost a ton of experience at LB and Sosthene was one of the best athletes in Division III in all aspects including speed, but as much as I loved Maginnis, Wescott and Capetola, speed definitely wasn't their forte.  This defense has much more speed across the board than last year.

For the offense, Baynard I'm sure will be used more and hopefully Kyle George doesn't have the drop issues he had last season at times.

Interested to see how the Wesley LBs look in Frostburg this weekend. Pressure will definitely be on them as a relatively young and inexperienced group.

This is scary to think about but as athletic as the defense was last year, it is even more athletic this year in terms of team speed.  The thing is will that speed translate to the field. DaJahn Lowery and Anthony Brinkley will probably start at corner along with Connally and Lowery is an All-American on the track and Brinkley was an alternate on the 4x1 Relay thattook 3rd in the Nation 2 years ago.

At linebacker, Julian Jones is faster than any starting LB last year and Wescott/Maginnis were definitely not the fastest.

I am nervous about the offense in spite of having Callahan return.  Is Shade a real #1 WR and losing Koudossou, Bundy and Wiggs will hurt. Alex Kemp is fast but has never played WR in a game and Okike, despite getting much faster after joining the track team last year, is also unproven.

Wesley sure has added a lot of size to the OL this year with 6 freshman all weighing over 300 pounds.  I watched Corian Bell's highlight tape and it looks like Michael Oher's The Terminator tap from the Blind Side movie

I think its hilarious when CNU of all schools complains about money issues when they are one of the few D3 schools that give performance-based incentives and bonuses to coaches and have a budget that is the largest in all of Division III.  They built a bell tower on campus recently just because they could which was a direct quote from a coach there.
