Did not see that the goalkeeper got a red. Wow. Denial of a goalscoring opportunity? Either way, playing a man down for 90+ mins makes the result all the more impressive for WashU.

Wash U got caught with a higher line and the forward managed to push his touch in the box past the keeper as he dove for it and he took out the forward instead. The PK was the first goal given up by Wash U all year as well so really unfortunate way to see that streak go down.

For Wash U to come out with a tie is enormous. While they may have come in seeking a win, to have the goalie get a red early on and then give up an own goal and yet score three goals and hold off Rochester for the most part and even look the better team at times all with ten men for 95 minutes is truly impressive.

Mr. Right, I'm intrigued on why you would say that Emory is overrated but then pick them to tie Chicago which would certainly be a massive upset.

I had to edit the post....I meant last time two teams lost in the QUARTERS and both got bids.

That would be a question for the record books.  ;)

But to answer your original question - that year, three NESCACs got Pool Cs. That was the year that same year that the UAA got five, largely due to the four-way tie for first between Brandeis, Carnegie, Emory, and WashU, and then Rochester was #5. If my math is correct, the NESCAC and UAA alone took almost half of the Pool Cs!

In the UAA's defense, unlike most leagues around the country, they are so spread out regionally, that for the most part they are hardly competing amongst themselves for Pool C's.

But how could you explain Wash U being ranked #11, despite being ranked 4th in the Central region, with North Park and Wheaton(Ill) ranked much further down, yet they are ranked 3rd and 2nd? Shouldn't their regional ranking be higher if they are also being ranked higher, and with a victory against Wheaton as well?

Yes. I am just relaying discussions about this from earlier in the year and what the norm is for the system. But Wash. U is 2nd in the region and NP and Wheaton are 3 and 4 so I am not sure what you're talking about......

Brandeis and Case are certainly in barring a collapse by Case.

Wouldn't Wash U have a pretty strong case, assuming they finish well, since they would have a strong overall record, probably second or third in the UAA if they beat Chicago and Case, and two top 10 wins both on the road against Brandeis and Wheaton(Ill) (at least back when they were a contender for the championship). They have some poor ties and one poor loss, but statistically they showed their dominance. It seems to me that more people have been counting them out yet they have surprised people this season. Last year, they very well could've been in this position with a little more luck.
