Probably goes without saying, but Baylor Mullins is an awesome person in my book.  Let me explain. He and my son met one time when we went on a recruiting trip to the Cruthedral.  I met Baylor that day as well.  We ended up choosing HSU, so my son and Baylor went to battle many times over the years (son's last season was last year).  Anyways, last night I was at the Tolar vs Gunter playoff game and Baylor approached me and immediately asked how my son was, called him by name and asked me to tell him hello.  This was incredible to me, one that I only had met Baylor one time and that he remembered who I was, but two to take time at halftime of their game to stop and ask about my kid and tell him hello.  People of Tolar, you have good men coaching your kids.

I called my son after the game and told him hello from Baylor, he said..."ya Baylor is a good dude, fierce competitor on the field, little bit of a trash talker on the field, but exactly the kind of guy you want on your team.

Like I said this information is probably not anything new to the Cru Nation, but I still wanted to take the time to mention it.  A+ guy in my book!

Wow that one stung, ALOT!!

Rules aside, the officials mechanics of that last play are in place from what I can tell.  The umpire is to stand over the ball allowing opportunity to sub, some have questioned why he is not looking at the sideline...he is actually supposed to be looking at the white hat (referee) as to when to step back.  It is hard to tell from the videos I have seen, but it looks like this is exactly what he is doing.  The video captures the white hat waving his arm which to me is signaling the umpire to step back and allow the snap. I do question how the white hat could not see the HSU player jogging off the field which would indicate that substitutions are being made and hold the umpire longer.  Of course I would question this though because I am a cowboy.

With all this said, one play or one mistake by an official (and I am still not 100% convinced there was a mistake) does not determine the outcome of a game.  I can point to a couple things (the punt and the face mask penalty by our receiver) that set us back 15 yards when were approaching midfield at the end did NOT help matters in that final minute.

The frustration lies with me in that we played well enough to win the game (even many of the Cru faithful will admit that) and it didn't happen.  You guys know that you are the thorn in our side that we just can't get past.  Of all  years for the NCAA to decide that conference opponents will not play each other in the first round and we aren't even going to make the tournament this year.  I can't help but wonder if we wouldn't have had to play you or Linfield in the first round how much different would it be for HSU recruiting to be able to say we went multiple rounds deep over the past four years instead of one and done in the playoffs.

With all that said, it is what it is and one day....one day HSU is going to reap the harvest of the seeds that have been planted by the Cowboys that have came before now.  It is without a doubt a special place.

I hope this didn't sound like too much whining.  Hats off to the Cru (again)...get after it and get better so you guys can make another run at it this year.

Peace

Crunation, is there a radio broadcast of the game, besides over the internet?

I will most definitely be at the game, but I always like to listen to the radio broadcast as well.
101.7. It's the same broadcast as on the video stream

Thank you!!

.@crufootball head coach Pete Fredenburg informed me that Jr. QB Luke Poorman had surgery for a foot injury he suffered during the ETBU game. There is no timetable for if he will be able to return this season. Jase Hammack will get the start against HSU. @kwtxsports #d3fb

Prayers for a speedy recovery!

Turn overs have plague UMHB all season. I'm not putting to much stock in first game, because HSU offense is totally different with a different rb than the first game (starter of that game is third string now) and two wr that didn't play in first game much. Still think UMHB wins but not the one sided game it was the first time.

Turnovers plagued us against you guys but not the whole season. In fact I would think in some ways you would want to duplicate the first game since we did have 2 of the 5 fumbles and 1 of the 3 interceptions we have had all year against which is really what kept it close. Not saying you guys didn't force those turnovers but all 3 of our turnovers where in red zone so they easily could have led to some point.

To me the X factor in this game is the HSU defense. Hard to think that even a much better HSU offense will score that much against our defense so the key will be the Cowboys limiting our offense in some way.

I agree with you crufootball, our defense has to find a way to limit your offense, hopefully our offense can sustain some drives and give the defense time to recuperate and get coached up on the sideline, I am not sure what the time of possession was the first time around, but I felt as though our defense was on the field all night!

Hey a couple of posts in a row that weren't bracket related. Haha.....

We do have some offensive changes since the first meeting, but I just don't know if it will be enough.
I will say that if UMHB's defense puts another goose egg on the board, I would be shocked and even more impressed than I already am.
Not saying we are going to put up 50 points, but I think we will at least score this time.
We have to win the field position battle to have a chance(plus play a perfect game)...

What a roller coaster of a couple of weeks.  We go from thinking there is a chance we may not even make it, to congratulations, your in and get to play UMHB again.

It is what it is, I will definitely take this over not being in at all.  For what its worth, I feel the NCAA gave us two chances the past couple of years (albeit against a very tough team in Linfield) and we didn't get it done, so in a way I don't blame them from matching us up against the Cru first round.

We know the challenge in store for us, looking forward to another great atmosphere this Saturday!!

Should I feel as nauseous about the second RR as I do???  I don't pretend to understand it AT ALL, but for some reason I feel like it is a lot worse for HSU this week.
Experts....Help me out here.

I thought there was No redshirt in D3.  Is a medical redshirt allowed?

3 games or 30% of games which ever is greater. Interesting thing is if HSU plays one playoff game he qualifies because he only played in first qr of the 4th game. 🤔🤔🤔🤔

No, it's one-third, and it rounds up, and it only counts the regular season. But that means that someone who played in four games of a 10-game regular season qualifies for a medical hardship.

Yes. It is allowed. It has happened numerous times. It basically gives them an extra year of eligibility.

From NCAA.org:

Redshirt: In Divisions I or II, redshirting refers to someone who is enrolled full-time at a school, but does not play for an entire academic year for the sole purpose of saving a season of competition. A redshirt does not play in any college games or scrimmage in a given sport for an entire academic year, even though that student is otherwise eligible. If you do not play in a sport the entire academic year, you have not used a season of competition. However, if you play in even one second of a game as a college student-athlete, you are not a redshirt. Redshirting does not exist in Division III because if you play or practice after your first opportunity to compete, you are charged with a season of participation.

I think we are using the term redshirt incorrectly, because on the surface you are basically getting the same result (an extra year).  I do not know the correct term exactly (medical hardship), but there is a way to gain an extra year of eligibility due to medical reasons.  I am not sure of the number of games played that would exempt you, but I know a couple of athletes personally that have been able to do that because of an injury.

I don't think it matters a lot to HSU's playoff candidacy whether Bethel or St. Thomas wins that game.

Was just curious if it would affect two at large bids coming from the South or two coming from the West?
I am good with two from both and none from the East!  8-)

Really? How so?

Sorry about that, I apologize.  As I looked at my post again, it was disrespectful of the East, I have nothing against the East.  Honestly yesterday was a blur and my head was spinning after the rankings came out with the whole Centre/HSU placement.  I only made my comment based on a comment I think Pat made that the East might not get any at-large bid.  I think I was grasping at ways that the Cowboys get in, not really understanding the entire process, which made me rush a post without checking things out.

Based on the regional rankings, it looks like our discussion won't matter. HSU isn't getting in without a loss from Centre...

There are five at-large positions, so it will be a certainty that a region will get more than one at-large in.
Sure but with Linfield ranked over St. Thomas, I'd assume the West is most likely to get 2 at large bids.
Would a St. Thomas win over Bethel the last week of the season help or hurt HSU?  That would conceivably put St Thomas and Bethel above Linfield (I guess/Honestly I am so confused).  Or is it that same situation just different teams.

How is Centre ahead of HSU? Neither have victory over regional rank. HSU did lose to the #2 team and is #8. Centre did lose barely to the #11 which would be beaten by both ASC teams. Even common opponent gives HSU  the advantage. Don't know strength of schedule of the teams. Is it me or is something funny here? ???

I was wondering the same thing, but I do not pretend to even understand all of this......
