Is Hope honoring Wourman and Mims as seniors today too? If true, you thought this season was not great for Hope?... hooo boy

Is Wourman graduating early? I thought he was a true Junior.

Yeah he's a true Junior. So him and Mims are both

A. Graduating Early
B. Transferring and they are honoring them (which I don't like)
C. Hopes social media is ran by a student and they messed up

I was hesitant to post this after the first game, and then watching the games last weekend. This is one of the worst Hope basketball teams in a long time. Wourman coming back isn't going to change that. Anyone that is saying "it's early in the season" must take the blinders off.

Hope loses a game they probably wish they didn't when it gets to March. Obviously a long season to go, but these are games that move you into the "comfortably in" category.

A little disappointed in Hope's press break plays at the end. Credit to WW for sure, but Mitchell had two different timeouts to draw up a play to get the ball in bounds, and neither were very good.

Have to win these next two games at home before they hit the road

A couple of long search efforts at Calvin University culminated today. One was for the institution's presidency -- with the search committee unanimously recommending Dr. Wiebe Boer, a Nigerian-born academic and entrepreneur who has spent most of his life on the African continent serving with NGOs and business development. The other pursuit, conducted tirelessly by Bill Sall, will be announced shortly. #themaninthemiddle #postwiththemost
Jalen Overway.  More size in this class than Calvin has had in a little while
At one point a lot of teams were looking at him because of his size, but did he ever get offers beyond Calvin, Cornerstone, and Trinity?
LSSU early on but he said no. GVSU never offered in the end. Hillsdale had interest. Was Calvin v Cornerstone the last few months

I'm 75% confident that Calvin will be adding a BIG addition to their recruiting class fairly soon

FDF, is Ken George replacing anyone who has moved on . . . or an expanded coaching staff?

I don't know for certain, but based on the MLive article (quoted below), it appears that Kyle Plank is not going to be coaching at Hope this season.

"George coached the Rangers for 24 years, guiding FHC to a 341-192 record. FHC won at least 10 games every season from 1997 through 2018, with the exception of one year.
He will join a coaching staff that includes assistants Tom Davelaar, Chad Carlson, Mike Aldrich and Craig Kopas."
Aldrich is having a baby around basketball season and will be coaching JV again this year

Yet, 17 recruited players

I guess that's my point, they aren't necessarily all recruited - they have all simply indicated they are going to Hope and intend to play basketball.
Kinda late to this discussion, but let's just this years large number of recruits committed to Hope, has hurt them in a few recruitments

5 years in a row now that the host team won't win the automatic bid

Then you have bad luck with recent Hope legacy recruits.
Duane Bosma's son ends up a great baseball player, the Hodgson's son(s) ends up a D1 basketball player.  VanKovering would rather work for dad, Muhlenberg decides on playing with friends/cousins and ultimately quiting to work for dad.

.....and then there's Cornerstone.  At one point recently I think Cornerstone's entire starting 5's final college choice was Hope or Cornerstone.

All of this!!! When I think about the long list of players that Hope ALMOST had, it's somewhat depressing. Escepically bigs. Meulenberg choosing Calvin over Hope was a shock to a lot of people, VanKovering leaving less of a shock, but still disappointing.

And a lot of people will rejoice in Holland when Kim Enders finally retires.

Also, ask anyone on the coaching staff how hard they recruited Harrison Blackledge, and they will tell you they didn't. He fell into Hope's lap. I believe the story goes something along the lines that he asked a mentor/coach in high school if he recommended any christian D3 colleges where he could play basketball... the response was,

"You should check out Hope College in Holland, Michigan..."

I find it hard to believe that Harrison Blackledge just fell out of the sky at Hope.  I wouldn't think the Blackledge family would be that naive about opportunities for Harrison to play.  Blackledge, Stuive, Edison, Gardner, Benson, and others must have been identified as MIAA players and sold on the Hope education and experience by Matt Neil and the Hope coaching staff.

Maybe you're confusing Blackledge with Beckman, who did seem to fall out of the sky for Hope. :)
Blackledge's mom discovered Hope on a website about Christian colleges that impact your life. They then reached out to Hope

Coach Mitchell . . . it seems he hasn't put in any effort to replace them. He was lucky to have Jason Beckman transfer to Hope
My impression is quite the opposite, and two of his frosh recruits this year have shown exceptional talent, including tonight. If he can continue to get two players a year of their caliber, Hope will be fine in the long run.

This feels like something to be said for a new coach in year one or two, not one on a downward trajectory in year six.
agree Ziggy. He needs a recruiting class thats similar to the Blackledge, Carlson, Stuive, Brushwyler, OBrien, Littleson class very soon
