Tommy Surges, 5'10" G from Marmion Academy (IL) will attend Hope. Don't know anything about him apart from the film I took a peek at. Lefty with a pull up jumper, takes it to the hole, jumps passing lanes on D. Surely a JV kid, one would assume, but perhaps a future for Hope. Either way, another one for the Dutchmen.

Now just to snag a couple 6'8" kids and the class will be looking solid  ;)

Calvin swept Hope in the regular season and now host the Dutchmen in the tournament; so naturally I expect a Hope win tonight. The 3s must fall.

With 16:29 left in the 2nd half, Albion could probably start taking shot clock violations without scoring for the rest of the way and win. It's hard to find a less inspired effort than what Hope is showing today. The defense is typically quite poor, but today it is in shambles.
Is Albion that good or Hope that bad?

Neither. Just one of those days. Hope is a shooting team, they didn't shoot well (40% 3s on the season, 28% today). They don't have the depth or defensive ability to win games when their big 3 scorers aren't scoring (16 bench points to Albion's 33 and 16 is a lot for Hope).  Hope is a pretty mediocre defensive team, they played atrocious defense today. Albion shot 40% as a team from 3, aided by slow help side closeouts creating entirely wide open shots, not to mention all the wide open layups that helped Albion to 50 points in the paint compared to just 20 for Hope.

In short, Hope shoots their way to wins despite their poor defense. Today, they didn't shoot and played even worse defense.

Or could we have a play in game like the rules in 2012 according to this Sentinel article from then? I have no idea what the tiebreaker is, as SAC said- they're not anywhere I can find.

Trine locks up the 1 seed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think...

Albion: 2 seed with win, 3 seed with loss and Olivet win, 5 seed with loss and Calvin win (Calvin beat Trine, Albion did not, hope has head to head)

Calvin: 2 seed with win and Albion loss, 3 seed if Calvin and Albion win, 4 seed if Hope and Calvin lose, 5 seed with loss and Hope wins (Olivet has tiebreaker in last two scenarios with head to head wins)

Hope: 2 seed with win and Calvin loss, 3 seed if both Hope and Calvin win (head to head over Albion), 4 seed with loss and Calvin win, 5 seed if both Hope and Calvin lose

Olivet: 3 seed with win and Hope loss (beat Trine, Hope didn't - head to head vs Calvin), 4 seed with loss and Albion wins, 5 seed with lose and Hope wins

Alma: Win and in.

Kalamazoo: Win and Alma loss- they're in.

If both Alma and Kalamazoo lose, I think we're going to a coin flip, folks. Again, correct me if I'm wrong, but either way, Saturday is going to be crazy!

Alma shot 55% from 3 and made a three-quarter court shot at the buzzer. Hope won 94-92. Heck of a game to watch. Teddy Ray came up with some huge defense in the final minute to help seal the deal- hardly the first time he's done that. Jason Beckman is back- 38 points to lead all scorers.

Woodruff, Kleiver, and Stevens hardly missed. Woodruff went 7-10 from 3 to finish with 25.

Hope shot 28-33 from the line and made them all in the final few minutes... had they not, Alma wins on a stunning buzzer beater.

With Olivet and Calvin losing, Hope is now in a 3-way tie for 3rd with Olivet coming to town Wednesday. Buckle up, MIAA fans.

Fun game of basketball tonight at VanNoord. I don't think Hope ever led, but they were just about always right in it. Neither team was firing on all cylinders offensively. Once Devries singlehandedly gave Calvin a lead in the first half, both teams traded buckets for most of the game, with Hope never able to go on a run of more than just a couple buckets in a row. Hence, Calvin held a slim lead the whole game. Riley Lewis made a superhuman 3 to cut it to 1 point with 10 seconds to go, but Calvin made their free throws and Hope didn't have a miracle in store.

Lewis led the way for Hope with 20. He didn't get involved offensively until the 2nd half. He can make shots that you get upset with him for taking until they go in. He probably needs to take more of those. Average night for Jason- took a lot of shots, made some. He had 17. Granger played tough, but was in foul trouble. He had a solid game.

Devries was incredible in the first half. Did he have 21 at half? I know it was at least 18. He finished with 29 to lead all scorers. Freshman Jake Honer did a solid job coming in to defend Devries considering what the bulky wing was able to do for Calvin before he came in. With Calvin's size advantage I thought they would win the game in the paint with Bykerk and some help from Walter, but it was mostly Devries, their leading scorer.

Had Hope won, the hero of the game would have been Dennis Towns. I haven't looked at any game stats but I'm sure he was well into double-double territory. I know he had the points, but it felt like he pulled down at least 15 rebounds, along with rattling Calvin's Bos and Bykerk. He was feeling some major swagger tonight and let those guys know about it. He stepped up big where Hope needed it in the paint, otherwise this game could have been over quickly.

Should be another good one at Devos next time. Let's Go Hope!

I don't see links for tonight's Hope game.  If I can I'll try and tweet some updates through the game, hit the twitter link below here.

PS  I'm not good at the in game tweeting thing.

Going to get a little live video going for us on Twitter?  ;D

The video is available at Augie's website. Riley Lewis with some clutch play, Jason Beckman with a couple of missed FTs that made that last shot Auggie took a real nerve-wracker.

I just came back here to say "Never mind, they still have the stream up!" And you've beaten me to it. Thanks for the quick response.

Does anyone who was at the game last night have anything to mention about how we/they played? Anything besides what I can see in the box score, really. I was only able to see bits and pieces of the stream on my phone.

Bulldog30, I found one kid via twitter (https://twitter.com/blackwell_03/status/947235983925436416) and then went and found this link:

http://www.ncsasports.org/mens-basketball-recruiting/indiana/shelbyville/shelbyville-senior-high-school/brock-blackwell

Brock Blackwell- 6'3" G from Shelbyville, IN: appears to shoot fairly well, and that is nice size at the guard spot. Hard to see much on him, however.

6'2" G Tyler George announced his commitment to Hope this evening. The FHC senior is leading the Rangers to a very nice season. Scoring nearly 20 a game last time I checked. He joins:

6'6" F Jeff Bikus
6'5" G/F Connor Evenhouse

...and anyone else I couldn't find quickly on Twitter.

I'm sure someone else can give you a more complete list, but just thought I'd note that it seems like Hope is getting some good ones so far.
