Sure is quiet on the message board...

So could anyone come up with an over/under on the ETBU vs UMHB game?

when the backup breaks 2 school records and played better in the prior game...sometimes ya get pulled. I don't think the coach is doing anything egregious.

To start with you are incorrect on all fronts.  I think he actually broke at least 3 records on Saturday vs LC, but then again, everyone sets records against their defense.  That's the team Dru set all the records against last year.  TDs, Yards, Pass attempts

But then again, if you have been following along, this year's team is NOT supposed to be about individual stats.  That's words right out of the mouth of the head coach.  Or, like I said at least until this past Saturday.

I guess who played better vs TLU can go either way.  The stats are comparable, but since the head coach let Dru play 3 quarters vs Brian's 1. I guess he knows best huh? You can go take another look at the TLU game recap then we can have a discussion about it IF you want to identify yourself since you know who I am. I can talk football ALL DAY LONG!

ETBU 68 LC 35.

And that was without their starting QB. Guess today was a glimpse of what's to come for the next 2 years.

Whats the story about Dru Smith? Was he pulled or inured?

All I can tell you is he is supposed to be back in the starting lineup next Saturday against Sul Ross.

A little more information on the situation... Dru had been banged up in the TLU game due to his aggressive QB style he was taught when he was younger to never avoid a collision, not to mention after the game slicing his foot open using a DEFECTIVE tape cutter that broke and sent the blade into his foot (OUCH) causing him to receive 6 stitches to close up the cut.

He missed a couple of days practice trying to rehab to be ready for the LC game and when he came back out on Wednesday, he had been demoted to 3rd team QB and told he would not be starting the LC game.  He was told he would probably get into the game anyways on Saturday and would be the starting QB again this week vs. SRU.

Unfortunately, due to a few bad choices and the coach wanting to get the backup QB on the field anyways, (so he wouldn't leave ETBU), looks like Dru might not be seeing the field much, if at all, for the rest of the season.  Too bad since he was destroying the conference, stat wise, as he is still 700 passing yards ahead of his closest competitor even after sitting out for a game.  He was also ranked as #2 QB in the country for D3 QBs in passing yards per game.  He is yet to play an entire game since his coach said he would not let him get any records this year if the games were blowouts. Obviously, a belief that changed last weekend for the backup.

Having been a coach, I know that posts like this are not good, but having been a human being a lot longer, I know that sometimes putting the TRUTH out there is all a guy can do.  Hopefully, the coach sees his methods of trying to tear a young man down isn't helping his program now or for the future.

So, I don't get on here that often, but I will throw my 2 cents worth in even if it is not worth that much.

I do like what I read that there is still an outside shot at ETBU making it to the post-season as I am sure everyone, but us, has already given UMHB the conference championship.  To be honest, I'm not sure that I believe we can hang with them either, but then again, I'm not playing.  There are a few things that could go our way and that starts with us winning every game we have left up to the last week of the season vs UMHB.  It will be a tough road as I am sure everyone will try to use the model that HSU showed will work and that is run it down our throats.  That was an ugly game in more ways than one.  We got outplayed, out-coached, and once we got behind early, there was no catching up when you can't stop them from scoring on every drive.

I will say the only good part of that game was us putting up 42 on what I had been told was a GREAT defense.  475 passing and over 600 total yards.  And, I don't want to hear, like I have already read, that the backups were in the game in the 2nd half.  I have done the film study! With 8:30 left in the 4th quarter the HSU defense was still in just as it started the game as well as the ETBU offense.  With one exception, the HSU defensive line rotates 12 kids at the 4 DL positions so there is no EXCUSE for saying they were tired.  We rotate no OL (4 FR playing on the line) and hardly any players at the other positions on offense.  This is not sour grapes as I realize they are a better team than ETBU as the score shows.  Just would like to have seen a more competitive game on our side.

Hard to believe any team can beat the 2 week scenario of scoring 79 in one week only to give up 80 the next week as we did.  LOL

BTW, for those of you who might have noticed some out-of-place people on the HSU side last week (we wore ETBU stuff), my wife and I came to the HSU/UMHB game as I just couldn't pass it up since we were traveling to Brownwood for our game that night.  We sat on the HSU side as I was counting on them being more hospitable considering what they had done to us the previous week.  Nice game and I wish we could see a few more like that in this conference.

Anyways, we have a tough game this week vs TLU as I think it will be a better game than last year's opening game when we "shocked" the #24 ranked TLU due to maybe they just didn't know what was about to hit them with the "new" QB that night.  I'm kind of partial to him if you haven't figured that out yet.  Just wish he would get a little notice from others in this league.

HSU also has a 'scare" game this weekend especially since it is in Alpine.  An upset there could really turn things upside down for that possible 2nd spot in the playoffs from the ASC.  I haven't seen any Sul Ross film this year, but I have heard they have a veteran group and besides, they beat us last year in the season finale.  It wouldn't surprise me.

Anyways, hope I didn't offend anyone as that is not my purpose. GO TIGERS!

Preseason Offensive POTY - T.J. Josey (UMHB)
Preseason Defensive POTY - Haston Adams (UMHB)
Preseason Special Teams POTY - Alex Bell (HSU)

Most of this lines up with my own thoughts, though I can see an argument made for ETBU QB Dru Smith.  He's easily the best returning signal caller in the conference.

Thanks for mentioning Dru Smith!  Glad to know someone sees it!

Hey, for all of you long time members out there.  Just curious?  What is the criteria (conference games only, entire season, WINS & LOSSES) for the selection of the ASC All-Conference players and who exactly votes or selects the players?

ETBU was/is their own worst enemy.  All of their antics did nothing but piss off the CRU and thats why they got smoked in the 2nd half.  UMHB had a lot of chances in the first half but their own mistakes really hurt them.  ETBU came out fired up and made some great plays but it didn't last long.

**From a 100% outsiders perspective**

ETBU has some athletes but I think a lot of their offensive numbers come from playing some teams that are nowhere near as athletic.  UMHB limited the big play and ETBU was never able to throw the ball down the field with any success.  They seem to be a dink-and-dunk team and let their athletes make the big plays.  The ends for UMHB had a field day and I give the ETBU QB a lot of credit for his toughness.

First off, I would like to thank you personally for the noting the QB's toughness as he is my son! He told me the UMHB front 4 were really good and he was absolutely correct as they tore through the ETBU O-line time and time again.  There are some injuries within the line, but that will not be used as an excuse from me as you play who you got!  He told me and I have to agree that this was the most he has EVER been hit in a game.

As far as the dink-and-dunk philosophy, the UMHB defense played pretty much what amounted to a prevent defense the entire game as they KNEW their D-Line could handle up on their business.  That pretty much leaves throwing underneath and hoping for big plays.  Trust me, Dru can sling it!  Just look at some other games!  Personally, a few more QB draws would have helped, but Dru took a beating so not sure if I wanted to see that anyway.

BTW, the big numbers you stated ETBU has put up on some of the teams in the conference can be found when looking at many of the ASC teams when playing the lower half of the conference.

My question is about the "antics"?  Not sure what that means as I believe both teams were jawing before the game and didn't see much more after that besides some tremendous football being played.  Coach Walden likes to get his team fired up before the game and the young men seem to respond to him.  I love the excitement he brings.  They played hard and thanks to 4 TO's from UMHB, we were still in the game at half 14-14.  Unfortunately for ETBU, the Cru train got on track and steam-rolled us in the 2nd half.

UMHB is REALLY GOOD. No question about it!

Obviously, ETBU is not at that level yet, but trust me they will keep working to get to where they need to be by the end of the season!

Seating is limited and only on one side of the field, so if you are going, you probably want to arrive in time to get a seat. Also, per UMHB's last visit to ETBU two years ago, visitors are not allowed to purchase reserved tickets and must sit in the visitors section - and no I am not kidding. I don't know what will happen if we fill-up the limited seating in the visitors section.

Go CRU!

I'm sure you can bring a lawn chair and sit behind the end zone or maybe you can just sit on the hills we have beside the bleachers.  We can't all have GRAND Stadiums to play in!

For ETBU sake I hope the new coach can keep the momentum going but I assume that will be hard given they lost their star QB to graduation. Coach Scotty must be an impressive guy, he already was one of the youngest coordinators in the nation, he surely has to be close to the top of the youngest head coaches now.

Hello everyone! First time on the board.

I think ETBU will be ok at QB!  ;)
