Sorry missed the Stagg Bowl part. My Bad. So, according to your post....UWW doesn't have to travel everywhere for playoffs. Wow. And they lost 3 games....in the same year??? What - no that is understandable since the WIAC is the toughest conference that god ever created and includes not only UWW but god him/her self on the schedule.

No - the post had some good stuff. No offense to Linfield but the "61 consecutive winning season" thing reminds me of BW and the ol' streak of mediocrity. I mean it is a great streak...but when do you crack through?

Linfield has actually cracked through more than most elite programs, seven national championship appearances, and four national titles in their time as an NAIA and NCAA school since The Streak began in 1956. It's been an amazing run, with five different head coaches, and only three seasons when the national record was in jeopardy. No offense taken, but wanted to provide some background. I'm not a Linfield grad, just someone with experience researching the program.

Replying to a 2016 post aside. Within NCAA DIII circles, do now defunct NAIA Division II titles or championship appearances really count towards an NCAA D3 legacy? The tourneys were filled 4 -8 teams. Many schools turned down bids due to apathy for the tournament or financial constraints. The home team got to host the championship.

The 04 NCAA D3 title was a significant accomplishment on its own.

Agree with your point on the 2004 National Title, but a college football legacy isn't just about what a school does in a specific classification. Linfield didn't join the NCAA until the mid 1990s, I don't know how we can discount NAIA competition. You're correct about the home team hosting the championship in that era, but a similar situation occurred in FBS when Miami hosted Orange Bowl games, or USC/UCLA hosted Rose Bowl games with national championship implications.

ADvantage 'Catdome: 2017 Game 1 Preview: Linfield (0-0) at Chapman (0-0)

11, I'd like to wish you another excellent season covering the Wildcats. Stay as dry as possible, and clear of those big hits. I'm dealing with a work-related fracture, and it definitely complicates everything. Looking forward to your work during the season.

I saw in the latest Linfield magazine that on football game day they are blocking off Lever St. and having live music, vendors etc and turning it into an exciting game day event.  Is this still in the planning stages or can we expect this for this years Home Games?

This year's home games.  Lots of fun changes for game day for fans.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to catch a Linfield home game in years, but maybe there are merchandising opportunities on both gamedays and during the year. This could help in generating some revenue as well. How about a shirt or hat commemorating The Streak, Linfield's four National Titles, and the number of Northwest Conference titles won by the program? In addition to gamedays, I would think a Linfield grad outside the state would be interested in making a buy from the bookstore website.

LINFIELD 2017 Freshman class announced....

http://www.linfield.edu/sports/release.html?id=6811&sport=fb

Still have more kids to add (a few impact transfers and verbals that need to pay) and I think we're looking to have a class of 55-60 kids at the end of it.  Lots of depth and the 'Cats crushed it at LB and RB.  The QB transfer from Portland State enrolled before spring and did all of spring ball.  I think he'll compete hard with Fowler for the #1 spot this fall.

I loved watching Sam Paris' film on Hudl.  I think this kid could break the rotation of a great Senior LB class and get early reps.  https://www.hudl.com/profile/3978044

Loads of talent in this class....

Thanks, 11. Looking forward to more of your terrific work in a few months. Has there been any chatter about the NWC in terms of adding more football-playing schools? From what I understand, the reintroduction of football to Pacific and George Fox has been successful thus far.

Heading down to Linfield this weekend is there any place we must check out?

Deluxe Billiards... dive bar
Blue Moon.... dive bar
Both on 3rd Street ... the main drag in Mac.
Hotel Oregon for yuppies but not bad.

Don't drink wine so I'm out of that loop.

That's all I got.

Also on 3rd Street, I recommend Geraldi's Italian Restaurant.  Delicious spaghetti and garlic bread, would make a fine pregame meal.

11,

Had a ton of football work late last week, so didn't have the chance to wish you another excellent season from the sidelines in 2016. That question I posed to you a while back has been resolved, Coach Smith came through with flying colors. Enjoy and appreciate your work, and I'm sure not alone in that regard.

Noticed Linfield has different pants this season, but isn't this the third version of purple pants the Cats have worn? Before the solid color purple pants, wasn't there a mid 90s version with a red stripe? I seem to recall a photo of a game at Eastern Oregon, could you fill in the blanks? As I remember, the red stripe did not have a white border to it.

Hi all,

I wanted to get some feedback about any future candidates for NWC football expansion. It sounds like the relaunches at Pacific and George Fox are going well, are there any Oregon or Washington schools which may try to bring back their programs? I'm guessing if Oregon Tech relaunched, it would be back at the NAIA level, but I'm no expert on this subject.
