At this exact moment it looks like Fulford over Poorman was an incorrect call.

Still a lot of football left over the next 13 months to evaluate that decision.  However, one thing to consider is that if any of the other QBs from that class were named the starter in '17, Mount would have been able to keep at least two of them throughout.  Fulford as QB1 ensured all others would move on.

WTF?  Isn't this the OAC Board, not the old farts talking about Service Academy Football board?

Isn't it Game Week 1 for the OAC?

Let's calm down here Kira & Jaxon's Dad, I'm an OEF guy so not yet an old fart. I still have 45 years before I can chase kids off my lawn with an M1 while drinking PBR and complaining about the neighborhood going to S@#t.

Besides Service Academy Football is very much like D3 Football, so let's show it a little respect!

No Disrespect, but it is Week 1 and no OAC discussion going on.  LOL

How much can you talk about UMU until Week 4? I mean, despite RHIT losing no more than 3 games in each of the last 5 seasons, this game doesn't even make the Confidence Pick'Em because no one is going against UMU. Anyone want to put point spreads on this one? Anyone want to take RHIT +28? Maybe 31? The last opener for UMU under 20 points was 2010, and before that was 1998.

Wabash scrimmaged Rose last Wednesday.  Wabash 1s (including Mount's scout team QB) scored on a 6-play, 81yd drive, then came out.  Rest of the 1st half was Rose 1s against Wabash 2/3s.

Fulford/JHill/Ruth/Petro/JEM might make it one series into the 2nd quarter.  Mount 2/3s will play the 2nd/3rd quarter, JV gets the 4th.  You might consider this in the point spread for Saturday.

#2 (UMHB), #4 (Walsh) and #5 (Wabash) transferred at mid-year.  #3 was a senior.  #1/6/7 remain, with a mid-year transfer-in.

Not surprised, but I wish the best for him. Part of me wishes the staff would just go forward with him as the number one QB because nothing has been resolved with Fulford. If you put all of your hope in Fulford and the case isn't what you thought, UMU is in trouble.

I'm surprised about the timing of Poorman's decision to leave.  I'd have expected him to transfer at the semester to participate in spring practice at another school, or participate in spring practice at Mount and make his decision in May.

My speculation is that Poorman leaving signals a few things:

  • The coaching staff is confident that 1) Fulford's legal situation is a non-issue, and 2) they can keep him academically eligible for the next two seasons.
  • Robert Powell may be planning to return as a backup rather than graduate (I'd heard he has the eligibility/credits to do either).
  • The coaching staff is confident that Jake Keeney and the incoming freshmen can be ready to provide depth if necessary, just like the freshman class in 2016.

Current depth chart is:
Fulford (SO)
Powell (SR - if he returns)
Keeney (FR)
Herron (FR)

I still think the punter should be MVP!

I'd either give it to him or Trey Williams, who wasn't supposed to be a big part of the gameplan tonight, but has come up big several times.

How do you teach conservatism to Fulford with the success he's had?  They better start ... take what they give you.

Fulford doesn't have progressions.  Target route is called for him.  Been that way all season.  Has worked out up to this point.

Weekly QB Depth Chart update (Sorry, I feel obligated to keep posting):

Fulford
Poorman

Other two QBs dressing:
Powell - Sr
Keeney - Fr from VA

Dim Davis not listed

Davis/Reid banged up in JV game Sunday.

You have to feel bad for Dom Davis.  As well as he's played during the past two weeks in practice, his only game reps result in a fumble for a score, and he's immediately pulled.

A. Lowery in at QB for BW...didn't he play for Mount 2 years ago?
B. WTF JCU?
Matt Lowry was a freshman QB who appeared in several games as a backup for Burke in 2015.  He was in camp last year, but quit a few weeks into the season.  Played for the baseball team in the spring before transferring.

I'm wondering if they had Davis on JV for a couple of weeks so he could get some playing time, to get ready to be backup to Fulford once tougher OAC Games came on the schedule.  No use standing on the sidelines, holding a clipboard.

Davis only played 4 series of JV against JCU in week 1, and that was to even out the reps after getting just one series against NCW the day before.  He didn't travel for the JV game last week.

Poorman will start the JV game this Sunday at Ashland.  I would not expect to see him get reps on Saturday.

Davis, Poorman, Fulford and Reid are on it as soph QB's, but Taitt is not currently on the roster.

Donovan didn't participate in spring practice. Not certain, but I think he transferred closer to home (Kennesaw State).

Also, Poorman hadn't been the backup for almost a month.  Donovan Taitt is the #2, and the two of them have taken nearly all the 1sr/2nd snaps in practice during that time.  I doubt that changes going into the playoffs.

Davis will be just fine.

I had mentioned this before but, Peyakov is graduating so it would leave Poorman, Davis, Fulford and the other kid that played QB yesterday (name escapes me). Poorman and Davis at QB moving forward, Fulford to WR. The other one was small, really small (I think the crew calling the game had him at 5'9 160). Who knows. Poorman and Fulford are from Florida (no DIII programs) so I can't see them "moving home to play".

Donovan Taitt (GA) was the other QB who played Saturday.  He's closer to 6' 0", 180, very similar to Poorman.  All of the current freshman are 6'0"-6'2", 180-plus.

Davis and Taitt are #1/#2.

kdets89...if you send it to Julian Assange at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, he will post it for you.

I've met quite a few HS coaches who were paranoid about game film.  Should have known college staff wouldn't be much different.  For some, I don't think "droning" the source of a game film leak is out of the question!

When is kdets89 going to post some more links to JV Games on YouTube?

Sorry.  I've been shut down, by request.  Maybe I can post them after the season.
