New Topic I'd like to discuss: K College NCAA penalties.
I know we have all heard rumblings about the NCAA violation penalties at K College, well...there are some new developments.
Previously the Men's Basketball team was one of 6/7 teams on campus that DID NOT have the option to repackage. What I mean by NOT repackaging is that every member of the 2017/18 graduation class on the Hoop Squad would be able to KEEP their current financial aid package & roster spot, and the team would serve the 2 year post-season ban. As oppose to other teams on campus (Tennis for example) would have the players that the NCAA deemed to have received extra financial aid pay it and be immediately eligible for the post season.
However, the NCAA has now ruled that K's execution of the NCAA's penalties was NOT what they had intended. Now, EVERY TEAM on campus is being repackaged. Which means that each player across EVERY SPORT graduating in 2017/18 financial aid is being looked into and potentially decreased, leaving some player at risk to have to pay more money to play. By doing so, the situation is 100% individually based now. If the player can't afford the increase in tuition they can't play on the team. They can keep the current package and NOT be on their respective roster. This will allow all teams to rid itself of the players that were given too much aid and WILL ALL BE IMMEDIATELY ELIGIBLE FOR POST SEASON PLAY.
Since AT LEAST 1 PLAYER ON EACH TEAM IS BEING REPACKAGED, what this means for new HC Jay Smith and company they have the chance to lose 1 or many of the roster/playing time dominate Junior and Senior Class (Potentially the whole starting 5).
Players at Risk to not be on the roster for the upcoming season:
Chase Baysdell 6'6 F (2017) -2nd Team MIAA. Team Leader and Top Player
Adam Dykema 6'3 G (2017) - Starting 2 guard most of the year.
Josh Miller 6'9 C (2017) - Team's starting C every game when healthy.
Jake/Josh Whitey 6'6 G/F (2017) - Both have started & played significant minutes in the past years.
**Tommy Cerven G (2017) - Not affected because he transferred in last year.
Charlie Carson 6' G (2018) - Bench Scorer. Potential to fill starting PG roll.
Roger Hood 6'5 F (2018) – Started a few games and very long and versatile. Plays 2-4 for the team.
Jason Hugan 6'8 F/C (2018)- Athletic, Strong Big coming back to the team after Dougal firing.
Jimmy Paprocki 6'9 C (2018)- Solid Back-Up C. Getting better.
Although K had a pitiful year last year. There is talent for Smith to put together a solid team this year. But we will see in the coming months that the roster may be dramatically smaller (Numbers wise & HEIGHT WISE). All we can do is hope that these kids aren't affected too drastically and can finish their collegiate careers in a similar/ unchanged financial position.
