Yep Phillip was good, he went on to be a 4 year starter at SCSU, and broke about every record there was to have there. He was also on the Gustavus Coaching Staff last year, and is now the head coach at Sauk Rapids - Rice. A co-worker told me he was the youngest head coach in Minnesota right now.

sorry, got cut off and couldn't edit that post. Princeton Varsity did not play Rogers from 2011-2014, before that I am betting they did. I see they played them last week though, and it was a butt kicking!

September 15, 2016, 12:01:30 PMI have absolutely watched Princeton play at Rogers for several years now (I have been to most home games since the school opened in 2003, so yeah.) but maybe there was a window when the Mississippi 8 split into divisions that Rogers did not meet them. I believe that to be true. Anyway sounds like GAC is BACK.

I just looked, when they played in the Mississippi 8 , Princeton was in the opposite division as Rogers. that was in 2013-2014. Prior to that Princeton was in the Granite Ridge for 2

September 15, 2016, 11:31:51 AM[/quote]u know what is also interesting? I probably saw Archer and Snoberger play in high school. I see the former Mississippi 8 teams when they play Rogers so I see Princeton a lot and Sartell is one of the old non conference teams that I see too. Have not watched Becker in a long time so I never saw Veldman.

I was an official out that way. Princeton has only played Rogers the past 2 years now, I don"t think Archer ever faced them. I was an official in a JV game when Becker played Princeton. Veldman and Archer were the QB'S, I believe they were sophomores then. Princeton won that game. Archer completed a beautiful pass under great pressure for a touchdown to go ahead with around 35 seconds left in the game. He stood in and got nailed! I went over to him right away to see if he was ok,he picked himself up and was all smiles, he knew what he did. He is one tough kid. I am pretty sure both JV teams were undefeated until that day. Both of those young men were great competitors, and fine examples of what good sportsmanship should look like. I never saw Snoberger play, but from what I read in the papers back them he was top notch also. I think Gustavus is deeper at the QB position more now than they have been in years.

I would expect to see them run a bit more and add some beef to the line (i.e. add a TE and/or HB on pass plays) in order to gain the QB a 1/2s of pocket time. Last I heard is that Veldman is out for the season and that Martinez was waiting on film but that it looks like a minor MCL strain. If true, the starting running back should be back in 2-4 weeks.
sowilson-
Well, what do you think the Gusties will be able to do vs the Auggies this weekend? Looks like you had a defensive TD and a blocked kick for a TD so the offense was not really rolling with the new QB in there. Hard to adjust on the fly like that but I understand now why you think Augsburg could win. I assume the new QB will be a capable replacement if Veldman can't play.
The defense is pretty good though. I still expect GAC to win in a relatively low scoring, close game. Should be fun to watch.
I have been a spectator on these boards for a long time, and feel I can finally have something here to contribute! I followed all 3 of the Gustie QB'S while they were in High School, I am from Big Lake. Veldman is from Becker, Archer from Princeton, and Snoberger from Sartell. All 3 had very good high school careers. Veldman definitely got more press with the season Becker had that year. Archer looks to be the starter at Gustavus now. He had started for Princeton for 2 years and did very well. I believe he is more athletic than Veldman, and has great arm strength. I think Veldman is more of a pocket passer. I looked at the Gustavus website and he also plays baseball there too. He went 4-0 as a starter last year as a freshman. He definitely looks more durable than Veldman or Snoberger. Time will tell! I think Veldman needs to add a few pounds to his frame to survive at the QB position, or Gustavus needs to improve the O line. Peter Haugen said in a newspaper quote that the competition was very close for that starting job. I think Veldmans 6'4" height was a major factor in that decision. I do find it interesting that 3 High School QB'S that grew up within a 30 mile radius or so all ended up at the same school.
