Way more entertaining game to watch versus the buckeye game  ;D

Watched Marietta blow two games in a row in the final minutes  ;D  Was rooting for them to be undefeated for their week-10 game against Mount.

I do not like their football field, the gray colorless turf combined with their blue-gray uniforms and the opponent's white unis makes the video feed look like a black and white broadcast

Since NCAA football now has a rule where a fair catch on a kickoff inside the 25 is a touchback, if I was coaching a team playing Mount, I would have my guys fair catch every kickoff.

So I quickly scanned the box scores of Mounts 10 regular season games from 2017, in which I counted that Mount kicked off 99 times and 72 of those were returned by the opposing team.  56 out of those 72 returns, which is 78% of the time, the returning team fails to make it past the 25 yard line.  Only 16 times teams were able to return it past the 25 yard line, most of these long returns happen later in the game during the second half when the scrubs are playing.  Only a few times the opponent has made it to even the 30 yard line, with the only notable return was JCU's return for a TD.  Whilst Mount has had quite a few Kick-offs and punts returned for TD's.

Kick off returns resulting field position
7% pinned under the 10 yard line
18% pinned between the 10 and 15
34% pinned between the 16 and 20
19% pinned between the 21 and 25
22% make it past the 25 yard line*

-Statistically to get the best field position I'd say a fair catch makes sense, as the average team is outmatched playing Mount, and returning usually yields a poor starting position, and following the usually quickly stalled drive, gives Mount a usually super short field to run up the score.  You'd think teams would use this rule to their advantage  ;D

So odd for there to be a gameday here and not have 15-20 post analyzing Mount's 50+ point blowouts  ;D  Weird to see all these night games though

meh, graduated a bunch, kinda expecting a 5-5 year, but if we did better than that, that'd be great ;D

A decent week for scores in the OAC Pick-Em this week, as nearly everyone got at least half the available points.  wesleydad led the way with thirteeen points, one better than reality check and BergAlum.

That moves wesleydad and BergAlum into the top four, but reality check continues to extend his overall lead.  With only one week to go, will we have a repeat champion?

Week 11 spreads will come out Monday night.

Darn, If only I had participated in week 1, I'd imagine I would be in 2nd place  ;D
It would be a shame if that Reality Check guy forgot to participate this week.

Mount is winning this week, by 30+

I see a lot of me football and very little team effort. You have 2 or 3 on O (QB, RB, and 1 WR) and 2 or 3 on D (Crowe, the LB, and well thats it) - surrounded by..well not much in terms of talent or speed.

Heidelberg the past few years always seem to be that way, a few big playmakers,(Dye, Brooks) and thats it ; and all those stand out players are seniors so next year, Heidelberg will probably drop to a 5-5 season

YIKES! that was close.  To think Northern held them to just a single touchdown

It is early but I think Heidelberg has moved back into top 25 and working towards securing playoff berth.

I would hold that comment until after tonights game, :D.  Just in case

Berg beat some decent teams prior to Mount.  If Berg can avoid any upset, they should be 9-1 and hosting a 1st rd game.

Well isn't that the trick now.  Luckily it is now the "easier" half of the schedule, with opponents such as Wilm, Cap, Etta.  Hopefully we can build some large leads early so a lot of our second teamers can get some playing time, as we will loose a lot of players to graduation.

There are two games I can see us blowing, one is this Saturday night against the Otterbein.   Even against some of our better teams of a few years ago, this game has always been close going in the 4th quarter.  I could also see us losing against those pesky bees when we travel to BW in week 9.    After that embarrassment last week, and that slow game against the Muskies, I am doubting that predicted 9-1 finish.

Showing me something is being within 2 scores in 4th qtr and Mount still has starters in. if Mount has the starters on the bench in the 3rd - well enjoy that banana split.

Yeah you're right, there really only has been one competitive game between the schools in the last ten years, 2013.  That 34-44 game; in which the next week we got destroyed by JCU.  The rest of the games were blowouts, with our only scores really coming against your second teamers.  Its been exciting as a Berg fan for this season, with some big wins after two seasons of some close loses, but as for expectations for this game.  Heidelberg will not win, nor will they probably ever get close to it, it'll probably be that aforementioned banana split, just by a smaller margin than last year. The team is pretty good relative to a lot of D3 ball, but a whole level below Mount.  You guys look at each season with the expectation of a national championship.  For the less elite programs like ourselves, a 8-2 or 9-1 season is a great year and team, relative to our expectations. Can't wait to watch it though.
