I'm a big fan of yours Lumbercat.
This time however, Bucket is 100% correct.
What you saw was, respectfully, a mirage.

A note to anyone playing NEC.
Don't dribble the ball too much.  They WILL take it away from you.
And then they're gone.

Has there been a year without this discussion?
Trash Amherst now if you choose.  You don't want to see 'em in March.
The two teams I root for gotta play them.  I scratch them up as losses.

amh63 and jefffan ....

You must have neglected to tell Westfield State that their big upset tonight was supposed to be a scrimmage ....
Did the Amherst guys troll you when SUNY Oneonta got their only win of the season against what will be an excellent Ephs squad?

A dominant 31-9 victory over Amherst sees the Ephs finish at 7-2, their best finish since lord knows when. For it to have been such a good season and yet still feel somewhat disappointing is a testament to how quickly Raymond and his staff have turned it around. Amherst was not at its best this year but today was a drubbing. 470-196 in total yards and a whopping 345 of those were on the ground.

A special recognition is in order to this senior class, who, despite going 0-8 their freshman year, clinched a winning record for their careers with this win today. There is a NESCAC championship in Williams' future, and while the seniors will not be there for it, they will have been just as big a part of it as anyone.
This is true.:

"Just one random thought for you and the rest of our friends on the Board...we are of the opinion that the rebirth of the Ephs is a possible reason that AMH is down a bit...historically, the LMs and the Ephs have gone after a lot of the same players....our theory is with the demise of the Ephs during the HCOF Kelton-era, the LMs were getting more than their fair share of those student-athletes....now that the Ephs have a competent HCOF in Coach Raymond, order in the universe has been restored and the Ephs are getting back their fair share reducing the LM talent pool and having an impact on their record...curious to hear your thoughts on that theory..."

...
Seems plausible but doesn't every high academic school go after those same players?

I heard a NESCAC basketball coach say (years ago) that he never got a player that was also recruited by Amherst and Williams.  To your point.

Colby Football makes a scary good point.
Hamilton is realizing how good they can be.
Murray has been "hyped" on this board for a few years but now he is rising to the level of expectations.
This Hamilton team is improving steadily.
Midd has to bring their highest level of precision from the Wes game to next Saturday.  Jernigan the passer has to outperform Jernigan the rusher.

BTW, kudos to Wesleyan for outlasting Amherst in a heavy weight slugfest.  What a great game to watch.

I disagree.
Lumbercat keeps this board going all year long.  And he does it without ever calling attention to himself.
#9
Yeah, what he said.
No one who watched Midd play both Williams and Wesleyan would rate those two teams as being all that close.
Right now the Ephs are the last team any coaching staff wants to face.
Wesleyan has the opportunity to show what they got in the next three weeks.  But nescacman, really, they gotta earn it.

Simply that the normally active board has been very quiet the last couple of days.
I probably should have just not posted that.  My bad.

Did anyone hear a pin drop?

Midd having more luck today,  nescacman

At least one of the NBN guys will likely be first team all NESCAC in hoops.
nescacman, what is your non-NARP credential?

Middlebury was indeed very, very lucky.  Stipulated.
A casual fan who knew nothing about teams' records or NESCAC history could have mistaken Colby for a top level team today.  Kudos to the Mules.  They took the game to the Panthers.
A spiked ball penalty that caused a very long missed extra point and a subsequent missed FG at the end of the game will linger in the minds of Colby fans for a while.  Their team played more than well enough to win.

And yes, nescacman, Middlebury is (for now) the luckiest team in the league.
But is that really how you want to come at the topic at mid-season?
Bucket's statistical analysis is as good as yours.

Not that "homerism" isn't expected to be a serious component of a board like this, and not like picking award winners before the 5th game is played isn't idly filling time....however; you'd take a coach who has beaten Maine and Hamilton over a coach who has engineered comeback wins against Williams, Trinity and Amherst?
