Gettysburg . . . for me one of the surprises of the tournament by winning 5-0 yesterday against Oglethorpe and now up 2-0 on W&L.

W&L beats Getty 3-2.  Kudos to the Generals, they showed a ton of grit after being down 2-0 in the first half and giving up an own goal.

Shots were 13-10.  F&M played the whole second half down a man and needed a last minute FK to advance (I watched part of the game and they controlled most of the second half but were starting to tire and PSU-Harrisburg were increasingly dangerous down the stretch).  In my opinion, that classifies as squeaking by against an opponent they should have beat by at least 2-3 goals.  They were not convincing at all

I was gonna make a similar comment but glad you jumped in.  I mean how could the F&M GK see red if he had so little to do as initially described?  Obviously the quality of the shots may have been wildly divergent, but PS-H outshot F&M in the first half.  And it's kind of a big deal to not have the #1 GK as it's not like  Montclair is brand new to this NCAA thing.  And almost ANY 1-0 game is a "squeak by" even if shots are 30-3, especially in a one-and-done scenario.  It is fascinating, though, as the tournament approaches and then heats up how there is a rise in pedantics, corrections, doubling-down, etc, etc.  I'm learning to see everything as additive...but very early on in an attempted perspective-change  ;)
You are both right - didn't mean to tout F&M undeservedly, and I was hoping somebody would have seen the RC to add in here?  Seems completely dumb, and especially so given F&M's GK is second team all conference and this isn't his first NCAA.  I was more commenting that it should have been possible for PS-H to score given how long F&M was down a man.  Montclair State will be a tough game.  Maybe I am biased, but F&M seems to have had some difficulty scoring during run of play, and their goals are more often from free kicks and PK shots than one would expect from a top ranked team?

F&M squeeks by PSU-H'burg 1-0

F&M played down a man in the second half - lost GK Amaruso on a RC - so not exactly squeaking as PSU-H'burg did not score even with that advantage.  From what I understand (didn't see the game),  F&M never really let their offense have a shot at all.  F&M goal was off a free kick.  Backup GK will play today against Montclair.

South Atlantic region had 3 Pool C's - 2 of them are done in the first round, courtesy of the CC.  But tougher matches today for sure.

I know we get told over and over again that geography/travel/bracketing does NOT factor into at-large selections (and it isn't supposed to according to the Manual), but the committees, men's and women's, just keep giving the cynics reason to remain cynics, because a great majority of the real head scratchers involve someone from the West getting in when they didn't seem to deserve it or not getting in when it seemed they did.

Amen!  So mad I bothered to try to understand the at large bid system.  However, I am told it will become clear once the final rankings are released.  Hope so - cause right now I would say that teams that play very hard schedules will not be doing that in the future as much.

Alex Lalovic, who was suspended for yesterday's semifinal win over Gettysburg for his involvement in the racist Halloween Costume scandal, puts F&M up 2-1 early into the second half (should he be on the field at all today?).

The soccer gods have answered:  JHU wins CC crown on F&M's turf 3-2.  Congrats to the Blue Jays, bringing home the trophy after a ten year hiatus.  The Jays last CC championship was Appleby's first season as their coach - it's been a long time coming.

Got it, and not advocating for any CC team at all per se - just trying to understand how WLT record, RvR and SOS affects the committee's decisions.  Is there some type of magic weighting formula that marries these three data points together?  Or simply voodoo magical judgment?  Three Pool C's for the MA is less than 1/3 of their 10 ranked teams, and if NE went to 4 Pool C's of 12 ranked teams that would be the same ratio.  And since it doesn't matter about the geography... that ratios don't even  matter, right?  Theoretically  a single region could have ALL their teams receive Pool C's if they were better than all the other D3 teams in the country?  Silly I know, just seeing if I understand the system.

Not brave enough yet to put out my own predictions - but pretty interesting to read and learn.

At the half - Dips and Hop are tied 1-1.  I completely agree that the loser is a lock for Pool C.

The committee will not allocate Pool C berths upon the basis of geography. Geography is neither a primary nor a secondary criterion.
Quote from: Shooter McGavin on November 08, 2019, 02:17:37 PM
Geography and travel certainly is a factor with some selections, but for the most part the committee tends to do a good job of getting the teams in the tourney that deserve to be in and figure out how to make it work with the pods and geography. The exception here and there is traditionally the west region, as sometimes they get a team in because of this (deserving or not) and sometimes it works the other way and they don't get a team in as it would cause more problems. Now none of this can be proven and I don't find it to be done maliciously but more for costs and logic geographically as you mentioned earlier. It's hard to judge right now until we know which teams get the AQs and which teams are vying for a Pool C.

The reason why you can't prove it is because it doesn't happen. Again, geography is not listed as a criterion in the selection process. Dave McHugh, who does the Final Four PBP in Greensboro and who has probably talked to more NCAA officials and to members of various D3 championships committees than the rest of us combined, will back me up on this.

I am a tad confused.  It looks like you are determining your prediction for Pool C bids by region - even though @Gregory Sager says that is not a factor (except for the 500 mile travel rule)? Given the extremely high SOS in the Mid Atlantic this year, isn't it possible they could have an additional Pool C team, and New England have one less?

And maybe access to the field was pretty tightly controlled in advance - it is fenced, unlike the basketball gym.  Wagner and F&M administration certainly realized they could have an issue and might have made sure any protestors didn't have access to the turf.

As I type this F&M got their second goal...  they are not letting this stop them.

Correction - F&M:Getty game is now live - five minutes in.  Probably my technical difficulties.

I'll be very surprised if student protesters don't stage an identical sit-down strike on the F&M soccer pitch today, given that there were more soccer players involved in that obnoxious Halloween stunt than there were basketball players.

Agree.  And I am having trouble with the CC stream which seems not to be live yet?  Not sure if the game has started?

Probably nothing done to the players until full investigation which will conveniently last beyond post season.

2 basketball players and 3 soccer players part of the crew.  Protestors forced a cancellation and postponement of last night's basketball game against York by a holding a sit-in protest on the court.

Wagner quoted in article and said players have received death threat and are good kids who made a mistake. "I will do anything I possibly can to stand with anyone," said soccer coach Dan Wagner.

Going to be huge media coverage today, and likely more protests.  F&M and CC officials should be prepared.

Well, as I "reported" last year, I went the last iteration of Hopkins crapping out in the CC semifinal and I'm still baffled as to what I saw. Totally listless bench, lackluster play, no sense of urgency.

Totally agree - I watched the game also and many of us who were there were just mystified.  Not the match we all had expected to see.  It was certainly very curious.

I think things started to spiral downward when Gilbert was sent off at 35:29 along with a YC for the team.  Not sure of the Stat of the Day cursed him..but the ensuing 4 more YC's for the Devils didn't help.  Despite that, they scored in the second half.   CC is still very fluid, and anything could happen in the remaining games and the tournament.
