Thanks Dave, I missed that they changed their minds.

Personally, I never understood the whole logic behind them moving to DII min the first place, but in the grand scheme of things - as an alum, my opinion doesn't matter.  ;)

Cool, thanks!  :)

So them not being able to compete in the conference tournament - would that preclude them from competing in the NCAA tournament?  Does the ineligibility affect them in getting into the NCAA tournament too?  I am mostly referring to the Men's VB who are currently ranked #4 nationally but poised to make it to #3 after beating #3 Dominican tonight.

I know I am late to the party - but I have a question - I  know Benedictine is moving to D2 over the summer, but why are they ineligible for the playoff this year?  Is that just for their conference playoff?  The odds are beyond slim (near infinitesimal) but could they (if their record was much better) be eligible for the D3 tournament as an 'at large"?

THis goes even deeper in my asking - right now Benedictine's Men's Volleyball is ranked #4 in the country, they are ineligible for their NACC Conference tournament too - so they would need an at large bid to get into the NCAA tournament - is that even a possibility?

(FWIW - I am a Benedictine grad, so I have a bit of a vested interest.  ;) )

Who back in December thought Babson was terribly overrated?  :D

Not me.  It's hard to overrate a team with Joey Flannery. :D

But more to the point, who three weeks ago thought Augie could come within one point of the title?! :o

Actually, they were two points from the title, games can't end in a tie...  ;)

But honestly, not many people would have seen that as a possibility...

Well no matter how the final four goes, for the second consecutive season, the D3 champ will also have possession of The BeltTM.  It's just a question as to what region it will go to spend the offseason.

Just based on school locations, in theory, it has a 50% chance of going to Massachusetts for the summer.

But my prognostications have both Massachusetts schools losing tomorrow night and The BeltTM Championship will, also for the second year in a row, will have a first time Final Four school - who also is undefeated, vying for the title.   While I think Whitman will be hard to stop, I thought that of (my) Benedictine Eagles last year, part of me hopes that Augustana brings it home to the Quad Cities...

The Belt, I believe, has always gone to the NCAA champ.  We've been rooting for the scenario where that's not the case, but I think it has been for as far back as we've tracked it.

Ah...I've only followed since the middle of last season ('16)...

Well, Benedictine played horribly tonight against Wartburg.  Normally they are a good 3 point shooting and rebounding team.  I haven't seen the stat sheet and I don't think I will since it would be too depressing.  They lost huge 92-66.

Well - I am hoping for Benedictine to win Friday to play for the Sweet 16 DeGoated Belttm on Saturday night and have it for the second time in two seasons...

According to the NACC website (http://www.naccsports.org/sports/mbkb/2016-17/tournament), only six teams are in the tournament...

1. #12 Benedictine   (*) 18-1   (20-4)
2. Aurora (x)   14-5   (16-8)
3. Concordia (Wis.) (x)   13-6   (15-9)
4. Wisconsin Lutheran (x)  11-8   (14-10)
5. Milwaukee Engineering   (x) 10-9   (11-12)
6. Dominican    9-10   (12-12)
---------------------------------------
7. Rockford   8-11   (9-15)
8. Marian   7-13   (8-17)
9. Lakeland   6-13   (8-16)
10. Edgewood   5-14   (5-19)
11. Concordia-Chicago   4-15   (5-19)

(*) Clinched a share of the regular-season NACC title and the No. 1 seed; (x) clinched a NACC Tournament berth

Final games of the regular season are all on Saturday -
Lakeland @ Benedictine
Edgewood @ Aurora
Wisconsin Lutheran @ Dominican
Concordia Wisconsin @ Concordia Chicago
MSOE @ Rockford

So right now the abacuses can be put away for the most part...Rockford is out, due to going 0-2 with Dominican so even if they won and Dominican lost, they'd still lose the tiebreaker.

The only spots still being contested are the #4 and #5 seeds. If Wisc. Lutheran wins or MSOE loses, Lutheran would  be #4.  If Wisc. Lutheran loses and MSOE Wins, then their conference record is tied.  The two teams split their season series 1-1, then the abacuses would come out.   Either way, they will face each other on Wednesday, February 22.

That being said, here is the NACC Tournament as it stands now...

First Round - Wednesday, February 22, 7 p.m.
#5 seed at #4 seed
#6 Dominican at #3 Concordia Wisconsin

Semifinals - Friday, February 24, 7 p.m.
#4/5 seed winner at #1 Benedictine
#3/6 seed winner at #2 Aurora

Final - Sunday, February 26, 2 p.m.
