The coaching change at Hiram was long overdue. Their new AD (as of last winter)is a Mt. Union guy, though wrestling is his field of expertise. I was curious as to how much rope he would give Stanford.
My kid plays on the team, so I guess I have a certain perspective. It wasn't so much the losing, but the manner in which they lost. They have (and have had) athletes. What's been missing is discipline and fundamentals, consistently applied.
I hope the administration gets behind this new hire.

Hey MU57-
i guess I would be classified as a Hiram type. I'll probably go to 5 or 6 games this season. Thanks for the karma! Good luck to your Raiders, sir.

HCAlum86

Please understand I was not bashing the school, simply the stadium. Very nice facilities around the stadium, but........!  And a good school from an academic standpoint. But the stadium, well?
And I have commented for years about the spectacular view from the stadium in the fall. You are absolutely right on that one.
Good luck in your endeavors to improve your home field. A fall day in Hiram is tough to beat.
Go Terriers! ☠🏈

I have pretty thick skin, no worries.

While I deeply love my alma mater, I am also acutely aware of its shortcomings and have committed myself to helping where I can to correct them.

I in no way took your comments to be a commentary about the institution as a whole. You simply made a candid statement about the obvious need for improvement. No harm there.

Hey HC-
I appreciate your positive approach to Hiram football.

I was at the game on Saturday.
Hiram went with an "Air-Raid" offensive set. No TE's, extra receiver. This can work if the QB gets the ball off in 3 seconds. If it takes longer, the QB will be sacked or will be running for his life...which is what transpired Saturday.

The Terrier's backup QB  (McNamara , a transfer from Tiffin?) came in and looked good. Threw the ball with some zip, made good decisions , led them 80+ yards for a TD. Next series: Sacked, came out of game with injured throwing shoulder. Not good.

I give Wabash's QB all his due. Very accurate, throwing sideline pattern after sideline pattern over Hiram's beleaguered DB's.
Though outclassed, the Terrier's played hard to the end. And they had very few penalties (only one personal foul!). So I see that as improvement from last season.

Chatted with some Wabash fans at Der Dutchman on the way home. Nice people.

Welp, becoming abundantly apparent that Hiram's defense shows up when convenient.
HCA, I have attended 5 Hiram games this year and plan to continue to attend games for the next 3 seasons. I seriously commend you for your glass half-full approach to the Hiram program. Personally, I find it difficult to watch.

^Yup. I heard that too. It's almost eerie... three years ago, Partridge was on pace to SHATTER school records when he went down in week 4 with a season ender. Tucker was also on pace to break several school records. Such a shame for this young man.

I honestly don't know how we expect to beat anyone other than Oberlin and Kenyon now. Tucker was such a difference maker when he controlled the ball. If we can get 3.5 YPC out of Robinson that will make life a lot easier for Stanford calling plays.

Any word on who has been named starter?

I believe the kid from Harvest Prep, Myers...he played pretty well last week.
Maybe they can catch a break (or two) and upset Wooster or OWU.
But I agree, 4 wins would be an optimistic ceiling for the Terriers.

Wes,

Easy Gunner.  Honest question.  Outside looking in not knowing about the ACL it looked like he was 4th string.  I know Bill from their Brownsburg days.

Sorry to hear about the injury.

Speaking of ACL's, word is that Hiram's Randy Tucker is done for the season with a knee injury.

I'm totally an advocate of some team with nothing to lose that's reasonable on offense eschewing punts all together. No punts. Go for it every time. I know there's a HS in Arkansas that does it and wins games (or used to, as it was in the TMQ when I read it). FGs too.

Why not Hiram?
Yes! Why not Hiram? By the way, that same Arkansas HS coach also onside kicks after every score.

I administered a dose or two of Maker's 46. I was in Meadville Saturday. Not pretty. Yes, pass coverage is a problem for the Terriers...but it's the penalties. Once again, 100+ yards. And the stupid personal fouls. Same thing every week. That's on the coaching staff.

Condolences to the Wooster family.
I too, attended the Hiram-Depauw game Saturday.
Congrats to Depauw. I sat next to some Tiger fans during the game. A class act across the board.
Hiram's passing game looked pretty good (4 TD's , 300+ yds), a lot of other things didn't.
Almost 100 yds in penalties, at least 4 personal fouls. Seems to be a ongoing trend.

Facemask and late hits (one after an Earlham TD reception). And yes HC, it is my understanding that Mr. Stanford has bent over backwards for some of these kids.

Hiram offense looking good, granted against a bad opponent.

- 628 yards
- 63 pts.
- 6 touchdowns from Randy Tucker

We need help in the defensive secondary. I'd love to see us bring more pressure, but we clearly miss Burchett and Fleetion. Next week will be a big test and we will need to bring pressure to stand a chance against Depauw, who I believe would certainly beat us in a shootout. There were certainly positives from the game, and it was even more lopsided than the score indicates.

Also, great year for the NCAC in non-conference play!

I was at the Hiram- Earlham contest this past Saturday. From what I've seen and heard, the Terriers are not the most disciplined outfit, particularly on defense. They had at least 5 personal fouls, a couple of which led to Earlham scores. It's all part of a culture-building process for Coach Stanford, and it will take awhile. The offense does have athletes, which is good because they will need them. I think anything over 3 wins for the Terriers will be gravy.

JAZZED about this year's recruiting class. Finally localizing recruiting and avoiding the trap that is Florida.

My nephew is graduating this spring. Played four years at Hiram. While I live in Ohio he is from Florida. 3 of the 6 All NCAC players (Each was on the first team) Hiram had were from Florida. Tell me more about "localizing" recruiting efforts and the trap that is Florida?  ???

That piqued my interest as well. When we visited Hiram a few weeks ago, Coach Stanford was on a recruiting trip to....Florida.

Hey HC-
My son is considering Hiram for school and football. What say you regarding the program and the outlook for the next 5 years ?
