The passing game can be the great equalizer.
I don't imagine the Johnnie fans see their team this way, I see St. John's as the Aurora and NCC of the tournament.
Those teams went 1-1 to this point, and nearly 2-0.

Yeah, you're right.  I see Aurora and NCC as the Aurora and NCC of the tournament.

Observers are reading far too much into the Concordia loss and the SJU tendency to sleepily enter games this year.  I also think the MIAC's appetite for runaway destruction of the lower half is much less, this year in particular.  I think there are a few factors which have led to SJU not meeting expectations for a point-a-minute offense and a point-a-quarter defense.  But I have little doubt that this year's Johnnies are more dangerous than last year's Johnnies and I think most people recognize that last year's team was pretty damned dangerous.

But we'll see on Saturday.  We'll be the team in the distance leaving a dust trail in our wake as we streak away to the end zone, in case anyone was having trouble seeing us.
Oz I think you're right, having watched Wheaton on film this is a classic match up of johnnies speed D concept against Power Grit football. I don't think Wheaton has seen a D like this, this year. The key will be for our D to provide the offense time to take off, and Jackson to release quickly and use that pass rush against them. this is going to be an epic battle on the field.
Look forward to hanging with a Wheaton alumi Player from the 80's that I coached with.
This will be a defensive game in the 1st half for dominance.
Go JOHNNIES

78Red isn't?
I came away impressed with the size of the Johnnie defensive backs. Line backers seemed to be lean and mean.

Erdmann acts like a G Trophy winner. His tightrope throws remind me of young Joe Willie.

Writing on the wall Panthers not turning 3 turnovers in 1st quarter into more than 3 points.

Doc it was nice meeting you at the SJU game and thanks for sitting on our side:). The re setting of the LOS was huge for us and will need to be done this week against a primary Run offense.

Out coached lol, come on man. SJU D coaching staff were able to adjust their short coverage in the mid 2nd to shut down the 5-10yd slants, crossing patterns and outs. In D3 that type of adjustment is rarely seen, and to do it so quickly was  phenomenal. Usually takes players to make that adjustment games! Nothing worse than giving up a tough 3rd-12 to a 12yd slant. Great coaching adjustment with DB's & OLB.
Duff, any good NG has to have some belly showing to belly bounce the OL lol
Last big belly NG you had (dumo) it was a great season. Great game, the O will roll and Erdmann will light up the airways!
JW wears the tiny jersey in honor of a former player that passed away.
If you love D that was a great game.

Here's what I'll say about my son JW Windsor and his path. For you Johnnie fans, I would suggest you take the time to talk to him at a game and make your own decision on who he is. He's had a long path which if he could have a mulligan he would do it different, and respects the fact that everyone will have an opinion of him and his choice on his path. As a God fearing family we'll take the insults and uncertainty of his situation, as that is human nature. I would say that all 5 institutions have welcomed him with open arms and he never let the institution or coaches down with his drive in the weight room or on the field. Always chosen as a team captain by teammates and coaches, because he is invested in success.
SDSM he chose over 7 D1 offers/preferred walk-on because of the Head coach, who ended up leaving to a D1 program the next year, so chose to sit a year and play D1 locally. Got injured in Rugby and was released from NAU due to medical reasons. He had to make a decision JUCO and on to a local D1 school or D3 and finish out.
He chose D3 due to his academic aspirations, and not wanting to play JUCO.
He chose Lake Forest and liked Coach Cat who recruits Arizona heavy; however he left with 2 weeks till fall camp. Now that situation is between Coach Cat and JW, but I can tell you Coach Cat and this family are solid. JW opened up the Chandler High School door for him and we appreciate Coach Cat.
JW needed to be close to home and CLU was close and JW loves that school and his coaches and teammates there, and the feeling is very reciprocal with them; however the Cost was too much for me to afford since I'm a single dad with one more at home. This isn't what JW wanted but financially it had to be done.
Having a relationship with SJU I reached out and again the coaches (who have known JW since 2012) accepted him with open arms.
D3 allows Players to transfer so if it's such an issue then have that loop hole closed, and as Pat told me "Transfers tend not do as well after transferring" Agreed, but we have to provide opportunities for it to play out.
Look I'm sure some of you will be rude on this and some of you will have a grudge and some of you will put yourselves in his shoes and understand! The real story here is how a young man continued to keep his nose to the grind stone and move forward with his decisions. I'm proud of my son and his resilience and drive, as a military man I see him not giving up and having to make hard moral decisions and still remain focused.
I've put it all out there for you and opened it up. I'm hoping if you have rude things to say, you'll hold till the end of the season. And please feel free to contact any coach JW has played for about his character and drive to succeed and work hard.
As for me being a jerk, I'm sure I am to some but I'm just a man that can handle the cyber bullying.  I've seen enough evil in my lifetime to practice Politeness & Kindness at all times. As the "Stranger virtue" Benedictine priest used.
Let's play football and GO Johnnies

Out of curiousity, I just took a peak at available tickets for the Johnnie/Tommy game at Allianz.  $120 -$720 per ticket--who the hell is spending that for a D3 game?
Out of state parents who purchased tickets late:).

should be interesting to see who transferred this season to MIAC, maybe someone's Christmas gift was an all region NG and top west region NG. Look forward to seeing MIAC Play and seeing some snow since here in the AZ cold is 50 degrees lol. Hello MIAC

Huh?  What do you know?  We are talking JW Windsor, I assume.  He's sure bounced around a bit.
All I know is this is where I wanted him since he left NAU (pre season injury release), but the path has been long Duff. He's a morally sound young man that has succeeded everywhere he's been from SDSM to CLU. The Cost at CLU was 5x more a year than anywhere, so that was a hard choice for him but he couldn't pay that a year.
As far as his character he has never had on or off field issues and good in the classroom, most of all he wants to win and be on a team that feels that way each day not just during the season. Feel free to DM with any other questions. Thank you for asking DUFF

CLU & Coach Mac & staff are top shelve; however the administration there isn't football or Male sport friendly. take a look at the talent Mac and Emma bring in at the beginning of fall season and then see how many of those are there when school starts. The price is 5x times higher than every school east of California. If I could take coach Mac and staff and put them in another state and program he would be a constant winner. One of the best player coaches my son ever played for.
Best of Luck CLU and coach Mac, you're a god fearing man.
Thank you

Excuse my ignorance, but is there an implication here that some D3 schools allow more aid  to athletes than to other students?    Don't all D3 schools have to allow only the same aid standards  to athletes as they do to non-athletes?

Anyone know for sure how it is done?

GT
Merritt and endowment scholarships can be different from school to school but that is where most D3 students athletes receive their money.

Astro9046, but that is no different than what non-athletes receive, correct?

GT
George I wouldn't know since I only have an athlete in college; however endowment is discretionary money so amounts can differ.

But... But... You were so content to bring up the total fail of LINFIELD in the 2nd half and laud the defeat of Redlands down in Belton without ever bringing up the academic prowness of the Crusaders.

But But But, I have discussed the entire advantage the Cru have...from admissions, to aid, to cost to attend, to dollars spent on athletics. If the Cru were not in the top 5 every year the coach should be fired. They can get 1AA and D2 prospects to come to their school because the aid is so good and facilities are better. They have a great niche in Texas. I spent time in the student union talking to a half dozen players the day before the UR game. The most any were paying was 5k out of pocket, most were 2k. I told them there are kids on UR writing checks for 40 to 50k, they said they would not be playing if that was the case.
I really do not understand why the Cru even want to play D3.
I can testify to everything you stated above. My son who was a starting D2 (80% scholarship) roll back and went to a d3 school in MWC 2017 and I paid only $4,000 a year. He then transferred to  a SCIAC team last minute last year to be closer to home due to a family issue and now by my surprise they want $20,000 a year.  So I now owe $10,000 a semester and had to pay that. I will say that my son loves the school but he just can't stay at that price. 2x D3 all conference player homeless after this semester (not really, but a decision has to be made). Recruiting coach said it won't be more than $10,000 a year LMAO! The life of a transfer student who won't give up.

Being new to watching SCIAC and D3 football, it has been an adjustment from the recent years of watching Oklahoma (as a life-long fan/supporter/alumnus/season ticket holder). Having a son now playing for CMS, their games have reminded me a lot of watching Army when they were in Norman earlier this year - very focused on a time consuming offense. They were able to do so against Redlands in the 4th quarter when it looked like the RU defense was just worn out. I am not sure if the CMS defense can have continued success against Chapman this week or not, but I do think it will be much more difficult against a stronger and more consistent passing attack. I think for CMS to win, they will need to control the clock and keep the Chapman offense on the sideline as much as possible.
KEY to CMS success is the physical play of their OL, props to that OL coach who my son has played against his OL at HSU and they were just as nasty.

Not sure about this UR team, so inconsistent on Offense. This week a blow out of the Regals, and the Regals should have beat CMS.
Coach Mac has lost six in a row to UR, got to be a tough pill to swallow. Despite not going to the playoffs this year, beating the Regals is almost as sweet.
I think know Coach O at Chapman, he will keep preparing his team every week, despite the play off being out of reach. CU can throw the ball, UR could not, so it will be interesting.

How is CLU not putting out a top 25 type product year after year is beyond me. It just seems like a program with wasted potential.
No QB play this year, not using TE to Stretch the field, not running ball enough between tackles. Fumbling football on average of 3x a game. DC doesn't mix up the play calls especially when you have a stud NG with speed and strength, No DB play on deep patterns and hoping a Freshman can get faster after allowing 10 deep TDs, Special teams and field position along with missing 70% of all Field goals. Lots of talent, lots of good coaches but just confused, time for Coach Mac to take control of both O & D, 2012 season is over, time for a change at both OC & DC. I will say that the players are motivated for change and looking to help change the culture,  WILL TO WIN is a learned trait. Better recruiting of neighboring states. Yeah It's been a long season which could have easily been 6-2 right now.

Very difficult to win when you only run 57 plays and the AB goes 11-25 passing.  All is not lost.  Chapman and Pomona loom at the end of the season for CMS.  Two tough games to finish out the year.

I think the way the SCIAC works is last team to not go to the playoffs gets the spot, so even if Chapman beats CMS, CMS is going to the playoffs

If it's a three-way tie where everyone split with the other -- which I know is what you describe here, but just clarifying.

Yes a three way tie.....
Lets see what happens after this weeks games the picture will be clearer. I don't think Chapman beats CLU at home, and if that happens the following week at Redlands will be a D showdown. I do think Chapman beats CMS with a better O and thats the way I hope it ends up at least. Fun football in the west, very fast compared to the Midwest.
