Does anybody know if Midd QB Jernigan practiced on Monday?

Dude, what is with your obsession w/this? You have money on the game or something?
Well, I'm not a Dude and I have something more than money on the game.  I do bleed Midd blue.  I certainly would like to see them win the game on Saturday as I have seen the first 8 wins.  When Midd played poorly against Colby, I inquired about the availability of some of the injured players and someone close to the action replied.  It worked last time and no one thought it was creepy.  If Jernigan is practicing then it is optimistic that he might be playing on Saturday.  If he isn't available then the uphill battle to beat Tufts will get much steeper.

It is not uncommon for many players to be banged up this time of year and miss practice for much of the week. Monday is typically film and walk thru's anyway, hence the snarky comments. Football "Dude's" understand this.... ;D

Great memories for #13! Hopefully the Bants can end their 5 game skid at Pratt. Going to need much improved special teams and offensive line play to get it done.

And I would like to add the the comment from NBN
"Trinity has to learn to adjust to what other teams give them and not just keep hammering the same few plays that have won them games in past seasons."

At the end of this season Vazzano had in fact lost the starting job. Lambert played poorly in the first half of the Worsleyan game and the coaching staff stuck with him. They could have made a change and didn't.

Next season is a total different story. These guys are going to be competing for the starting job come August. Given their talent level it would not surprise me if they both get valuable PT.

My wife and I attended the Trinity College Football Banquet Sunday night. It is a very special event that is supported by alumni and administration. President Joan Berger Sweeny actually went from table to table to speak with everyone, exchanging small talk.

Several things to note:
-Coach Devanney complimented the team on their resiliency when facing injury and embracing the "Next man Up" philosophy."  Sorry NESCACMAN, there are no excuses in life, ie, "But only if Piccirillo had played."
-The coaching staff is not satisfied, nor resting. Both the OC and DC came up to me and said that they can not wait until next year and are working on securing next years recruiting class and working on how they can best utilize their talent in 2019!
-Three quarters of the team has had a GPA of over 3.0 in the last year.
-10 of the seniors have jobs lined up for them upon graduation. Devanney challenged the rest of the seniors and alumni to make sure everyone is employed or in Grad school upon graduation. He also challenged the senior class to get a combined GPA of 3.5 this spring as the 2018 class had done.
-Bill DeLongis, Strength and Conditioning Coach received a special award and was called out as being a key to Trin's Football success. As others have stated, there is a definable difference in the size, speed, and general athleticism of a couple of the NESCAC football teams. Contrary to the 'haters', this is not a function of accepting stupid kids, it is a function of how hard they work when given the opportunity. The boys in Hartford are already doing 3 day per week grueling workouts. As a matter of fact, there are kids throwing up at every workout!

On to next year..........

Thanks for the reply.

Thoughts on Bentley? Academics/football/conference. I know this is a D3 board, but they are pursuing my son and I don't know much about them other than a very good business school

I have seen over 25 NESCAC games and 10 NE10 games in the last couple of years. Also, my son was recruited by both several NE10 schools as well as several NESCAC schools. He is now at Trinity and has had a great experience. It was the right school for him athletically and academically.

In general I would say that the NE10 has more "ballers". The kids are a little bit bigger, faster, stronger. Game day environment is similar. I would have to say there is more alumni support for NESCAC on both game day as well as helping the kids with their careers.

I would encourage your son to take official visits at all the schools that interest him. He needs to talk to the players about the school and coaching staff. This will allow him to make the a decision that is best for him and him alone.

All NESCAC teams were voted on by the coaches last night. Any word on when the results are published?

Sorry, I left one prediction out...........

There will not be a brawl on the Wes sideline this year once the 'melt down' starts to occur.
This is a pity. I especially enjoyed seeing the fan's, players, and coaches going at it two years ago at historic Andrus after the Bant's took the lead!

Let's start some predictions for this weekend's game in Middletown.

Piccirillo goes 2 for 4 on the day..............that is, 2 pic's and 4 sacks including one strip sack.
He spends so much time in the backfield with the Bantam's D ends, Christiano and Perkins, that they all become best friends!

Chipouras has another 200 yard game running off tackle at will. One of the Card's corners will tap out and fake an injury because he is tired of getting steam rolled.

AJ Girard is overheard saying........"Thank god I persuaded my little brother to go to Trinity and not this place"

Final Score- Staters 38, Wes 14

I just checked the NOAA web site for weather conditions in Hartford at game time tomorrow. Rain is supposed to push thru but they are calling for 20mph winds with gusts up to 45mph. This is going to limit the Bant's air game and should benefit the Lord Mammoths. Looking forward to some old school smash mouth football!

I just find it amazing that Nescacman or someone else pays money annually to a hosting company for the "wesleyanrejects" url.

You have to admit, it's pretty funny and whomever is paying for it, IOO, money well spent...what makes it funnier is it is actually true..

I can say with certainty that there has never been a Bantam contributor that has any regret that they were rejected by Wesleyan. However, I am sure that there has been a kid or two who never saw the field of play who whished they had been accepted knowing they probably could have started in Middletown..........

Joe Bag-
well stated- Mills is a master and the best coach in the league. Lord Jeffrey at Trinity is recruiter, an administrator and a talker....but not a game coach--- as evidenced by the Williams loss this year where an inferior team with a 65 man roster took Jeff to school.  Murray and the Ephs made a monkey out of Devanney with an inferior team.....how did the mighty Bantams lose that game ?

1) Play calling- Little to no diversity in the passing game. Trin ran vertical routs all day.
2) QB Performance- 14 for 44 with 2 picks. Both accuracy and decision making were off.
3) Secondary- Got smoked on two long balls that resulted in TD's in spite of playing cover 2.
4) Williams came to play and were flying to the ball on defense. They were a much better team in week 3 than they are now.

Williams outplayed and outcoached Trinity and deserved to win, plain and simple.

Over 1,000 pages of NESCAC football posts since 2005 but how much has really changed? Once again the conference champion will be either Trinity or Amherst, with the title to be decided on Saturday in Hartford.

It's sure to be another classic between the two premier programs in the NESCAC over the past 15 years. Both have very stout defenses, Amherst leads the league in points allowed (8.6 per game) while Trinity is second giving up 10.6 points per game. Trinity leads in yards allowed per game with 204.9 while Amherst has given up 227.4 yards per game.

Trinity leads the league in every major statistical offensive category and have looked even more impressive, or at the very least, more efficient with Lambert relieving Vazanno at quarterback. Amherst is no slouch offensively, ranking second in total yards per game (391.1) but still averaging 118.3 fewer yards than league leader, Trinity (509.4).

In their six games against common opponents Trinity has outscored their competitors by an average of 35 points while the margin of victory for Amherst is 16 points per game. The toughest common opponent has been Tufts who the Mammoths beat by 6 on Saturday while Trinity won by 14 over the Jumbos.

While nothingbutnescac lists Amherst as the favorite to win the NESCAC, I'd have to give the nod to Trinity. They've been more impressive against common opponents and their loss to Williams has looked more like an aberration as the season has gone on. When you take into account that the game is being played in The Coop, where the Bantams have won 69 of their last 71 games, I would give Trinity a slight edge to earn the school's first NESCAC three-peat since winning four straight from '02-'05.

Predictable comments from Middletown...but what about the QB situation??? Who's the starter???

For what it's worth, our early analysis has us leaning towards Hartford State given the "home coop" advantage....

The decision has been made but should not be disclosed. Better to have the Lord Mammoths prepare for two different QB's.

Lambert's performance last weekend was no fluke. He was composed and took advantage of the opportunity. I will concede that he does not have the arm strength of Vazzano, as was apparent on several long balls. However, he did a much better job in RPO reads and check downs than Vazzano has done this season. No comparison actually.

Vazzano is injured and is questionable for this Saturday. I suspect if Lambert starts and has another solid game the coaching staff will be faced with a tough decision as to who gets the nod versus Amherst.

Did Trinity run up the score??

When you keep your starting QB in till the score is 52-9, it's kind of hard to argue otherwise, isn't it?  It's not like Vezzano needed the practice; the young man had a day.

I like the way the Bants kicked it into another gear when Bates came back at 14-9.  I loved the play of their 8 ft. tall, sub 4 second 40 WR's.  (It's a surfeit of riches to have more than one).  And though we all know kickers aren't really football players, that Eric Sachse 50 yard FG was a thing of beauty.  But 59-16?  In the past, I'd assumed Devanney just held a grudge against Harriman.  Now I am not sure what to think.

On the other side of the ball, Bates D played great for the first half, though missing 2 of their key starters.  And Sachse will get a well-deserved Special Teams POTW, but Bates' Justin Foley worked his butt off: 10 punts for 384 yards; kickoffs of 60, 60, 60 and 50 yards; his first collegiate FG from 36 yards; His first collegiate PAT plus a blocked PAT; and 2 touchdown saving tackles on returns (for which he was not credited).  The kid is a workhorse.

While the Bobcat D looked solid for the first half, they couldn't cover those 8-foot tall WR's in the second.  (The matchups were like Doug Flutie and Pee Wee Herman marking up on Lew Alcindor and Manute Bol).  The Special Teams play was weak; if Foley couldn't tackle, the score would have been 73-16.  And Costa is the only solid player on the O right now, as his WR's can't get separation or make plays on catchable balls.  Not a good day for the Garnet.

PS: The webcast announcer referenced a Bant player who was a starter this year, after spending last season on "the scout team".  A NESCAC program with a "scout team"?  Wow.  Devanney is making good use of those 327 FY FB players he gets through Admissions each year.   :-[

For the record, the score was 45 to 9 at approximately the 7 minute mark in the 3rd quarter when Trinity rested all of their starters on O and D. The last 2 scores of the game for the Bant's were runs by FR Lockwood who had more yards for the day than Chipouras! I am not sure how you tell your second team to 'play soft'. They are competing for more playing time. Shouldn't they continue to play hard regardless of the score?

I am not positive, but I think the web announcer was referring to Koby Schoffer. He was recruited as a QB and was a scout team QB his FY. Sophomore year he moved to WR and had a breakout season. He made a beautiful one handed catch in the 3rd that could make the Sports Center Top 10 plays of the weekend. He is 5'11" but plays like he is 8 foot tall!

Were you trying to be funny with your 'scout team' comment or do you really not understand what a scout team is?

Great question, Frank. Since Colby and Bates used to rotate and not play Trinity each year, there were fewer matchups. However, I know none of the three Maine teams have beaten Trinity since sometime prior to the year 2000.
Wow! That's even longer than I thought. So Saturday really will be historic. I say Colby 17 Trinity 14 in an epic battle.

Trin has more talent than they did last year. They are 2 to 3 deep at every position. The question is, who will rise up to lead the team this year and if the senior leadership will take advantage of this opportunity.
I predict Trin 34, Colby 17.
