I was in and out watching GC on the internet. My hats off to the GC Def players and staff. They had what look to be a sound game plan for the option, but lack of passing helped as well.

October 21, 2018, 08:42:53 AMQuote from: HSCTiger fan on October 20, 2018, 04:39:50 PMI was watching via internet, and you are correct about the kick at the end of the half. As a GC fan, I am really glad those were not the winning points. I know we lost, but I only would have want to win if it was by 4 or more pts.
GC HSC game was a great one. Both teams played well. Right before halftime GC got a first down with about 5 seconds to play. Instead of spiking the ball GC ran out their FG kicker to attempt a FG before the half. EVERYONE WATCHING THE GAME saw the clock at 0:00 BEFORE the ball was snapped. Everyone but the back judge. They awarded the Quakers 3 points! It was the most ridiculous call I've ever seen. The snap was a full second AFTER time expired.
All turned out well for the Tigers as Cobb was great, and Smith was unstoppable! Smith went 30 for 214 rushing, 12 for 118 receiving and even went 1-1 for 9 yards passing. Amazing day for Garnet and Gray!
Why didn't they spike the ball? My guess is maybe they don't practice it. QB can only spike if he takes the ball from under center. GC is in shotgun ,all the time. This kills me when a team needs one yard and they hike the ball 5 yards deep before they go forward. Just an old-school coach with simple old-school thoughts.

You are correct about the money being shared. My son was only offered " gap money". Enough to cover the difference between the total minus grants and other scholarships. Still cheaper than his Guilford bill , but he liked the school better. Then he was offered pwo with a chance to "win " a full-time ride. I see a real advantage for a state supported school vs private school in recruiting on this level. In state tuition is almost totally covered with federal Pell Grant and a couple small scholarships.

With several strong D2 schools in NC, it has to hurt GC recuriting . There are 33 ncaa football teams in North Carolina, across all divisions.

As a newbie to ODAC football and D3 for that matter, I have a
couple questions for all those on the board.
First, in what order would you rank ODACs football program s? Secondly how would you rank the coaching staffs on game day performance only? Explain answers if you care.
Just trying to figure out this league a little bit.

Final Guilford 28 Ferrum 27
Fun game to watch in Greensboro as the Quakers jumped out to a 21-7 lead and held a 21-13 margin at the half. FC put up a TD and 2 point conversion to knot the score at 21 all entering the 4th. FC missed a 40 yard FG wide left and then midway through the 4th GC got a 65 yard catch and run TD up the middle for 28-21 lead. FC marched down the field to cut the margin to 28-27 and then the Quakers blocked their 2nd PAT of the game. GC took the ensuing kickoff with about 4 minutes to go and got a couple of key first downs on Bell runs. FC used their last 2 TOs, but GC successfully managed to run out the clock.
Good win for the team. I believe they needed a positive in a big way, right before fall break. Maybe it will recharge them for a strong second half of the season.

Mid-Altantic weather continues to be a problem.
Can the game be changed to Saturday ?

Ferrum 81, Greensboro 0
Two comments: FC is fairly good and GCP is really bad.
Really liked the Head Coach, liked the campus for the most part( nothing special but nothing real negative either). His staff seemed to be on the weak side compared to all the others we had talked to. Head Coach gave a great pitch to the kids on the visit, did most of everything himself. Unique school setting for a D3 football program for around here. Having a small school on the doorsteps of downtown and two fairly large universities makes a good selling point.

others receiving votes, is to show all votes casted not to say whom is 26, 27 , etc....
Its more about being transparent about the voting , to show all votes were counted.

Hate to see Guilford cancel another game, but being safe is the best way. Missing stats from two game could easily take 8 to 10 sway from Bell's career total as well as the yardage.

hasanova....... my son is out for the year with a knee injury. He is a 2nd year o-lineman. He was thinking he would get some real playing time this year. He was on the sideline with the knee brace yesterday. Will have surgery on Wed of this week, then 6 months of rehab. I will only make about half the games this year since he is not playing.

Yeah, 58 points in 47 minutes is worrisome. At 20-0, the first quarter was not a good start, but we did begin to score. I have never seen a No Contest and I was pretty sure the stats would be vacated. It wasn't a loss, but it does feel a lot like the proverbial "kissing your sister."
Guilford had them just where wanted them, looked a lot like the EH game last year. Back end of Def has to find some players. I was impressed with the QB and new WR's. My son had told me that the offensive wouldn't drop off any and he thinks it will continue to improve.

I believe the Guilford has a solid chance for a mild home upset win. I really believe it will be a shootout to the end. GC likes their new QB a lot. Thinks the o-line should come together nicely and then Bell is back as well. Def will have to grow up in a hurry ( secondary really fast) in order to compete for a title or even a winning season. I predict a up and down year close to .500 again. Capable of beating anyone or losing to anyone.
