Hard to beat a team three times in a season. Should be a fun one. See everyone in Abilene!

Pretty sure I know what you are feeling but in defense of the bracket, with HSU being the #2 overall seed, playing UMHB or Trinity who are one of the lowest seeds fits.

I know, but giving TLU a first round bye is surprising. I personally would have sent UMHB to Oregon to play Linfield. Have TLU and Trinity have a first round rematch instead of a potential 3rd game in round two, and then a potential third game in the third round. But Hey, if you're going to make a run at a championship you have to win, bottom line. Let's see how it plays out.

McMurry is going for a Co-Championship and a 7-3 record, the best since 2011.
Centenary is going a 5-5 record in year #1.

MCM is going to win in their new conference. Jordan has done a great job getting them up from where they were, but I just don't know how you respect it

Quote from: Ron Boerger on November 13, 2024, 05:26:36 PMTrue or not, at least all those schools will have a functional conference to play in going forward.

Which is my point. The schools leaving are punishing the institutions that have had *too* much success. Must be nice to go 7-3 in a new conference, where you get to play Austin College and Lyon twice and a program that is in its first year of varsity eligibility, with another on the way. Nothing like taking an easy road for "success".

Quote from: Ron Boerger on November 13, 2024, 07:51:32 AMFunny how the schools that *don't* play football also left (or will after this year).  Maybe the problem in the ASC is not simply getting "your butt whipped" in one sport.

Okay then look across the board. McMurry was consistently in the bottom half of the conference in all but two sports. (They dominate track and field, softball is middle of the pack). LETU has a really strong MBB, but outside of that bottom feeders. TLU has been good at football and MBB in the past, I think they've both taken a step back. But props to them they competed in the ASC for football a few years (Even went toe to toe with HSU). Concordia has a good baseball program and a middle of the pack MBB team, outside of that not much else. Meanwhile the state schools are going D2, which I agree with, that's where they need to be. Who else would you like to examine?

There are three teams that have had a chokehold on success in the ASC and those are the three out of the four that remain. I think Amy Carleton was horrible at her job, but I believe the main factor is they're tired of losing.

Football it's been UMHB and HSU.
MBB - it's been a toss up, but it's been HSU, UMHB, ETBU, or UTD.
WBB - it's been HSU, UMHB, ETBU, and UTD.
WSOC - HSU with a small hint of UMHB
MSOC - UMHB or UTD
Softball - ETBU or UTT
Baseball - UTT, UTD, ETBU, with a hint of CTX

I would rather go play TLU, Schreiner, Southwestern, Austin College, and Lyon too.

Best way to achieve success is running away from the conference you consistently got your butt whipped in.

This is a big issue and not just for football.  Conference leadership hasn't addressed it at all either!

You would think that if the Sul Ross vote to D2 goes through that they will have to.  If there is no ASC football that might also convince UMHB to move to D2/D1 FCS, HSU to finally think about a move to the SCAC, and who knows what other dominoes could fall absent some sort of statement from the conference.

Does HSU have the academics to be considered by SCAC, which we know is snooty in that regard? I don't know why UMHB would ever leave a football division that they dominate, but I guess if they have no choice....Obviously, there are sports other than football to consider.

At least from a football standpoint, they certainty have the facilities for a D2/D1 FCS program. Whole thing is shaping up to be a da*n shame though, but I'm hoping things work out.

Not to be "that guy", but I'm assuming academics have been thrown out the window considering that McMurry has made the jump over to the conference. Not saying MCM has bad academics, but the standards have been dropped.

The ASC leadership has done little to none since I've been closely following D3 athletics. I think the mass exodus from the ASC is the fact that people are tired of UMHB. They have become good or great at just about every sport they implement, which is great for them. I think teams in the ASC know they cannot compete at the level UMHB is at.

Can UMHB financially afford to move up to DII or FCS? The last I heard they had a good amount of debt from all the construction going on and some other factors. That could be old information, I just had heard that from friends that worked there during my time working at HSU.

Birmingham Southern would not have to fly to Huntingdon, easy bus ride for us.  BSC has better losses than getting dirt stumped at home by UMHB.

The score does not reflect how the game was played. I know that is easy to say, but that game was back and forth until the three scores by UMHB in a span of a little over a minute of game time in the first half. Then HSU had to become one dimensional which you can't be against an UMHB defense. And with all due respect didn't UMHB "dirt stump" BSC to the tune of 42-7 last year? I know it's a different year, but come on man.

A great game on Saturday in Abilene. HPU has vastly improved and they took it to a sluggish HSU in the first half. I was very impressed with HPU's ability to stop the run, although HSU telegraphed their offensive play calling in the first half. The second half was the HSU that I was used to seeing, with the defense leading the charge.

HPU did a great job of taking away the run and trying to make Glynn beat them with his arm, which came alive in the second half. Definitely showed us some weaknesses which we corrected in the second half.

With Platteville laying an egg, I have an increased concern that we will be sitting on the outside looking in for the playoffs. Either way a road game in San Antonio or maybe even McMinnville is going to be tough. I just don't know if we have the offense to win a playoff game this year.

O hell, I thought UWP only had two losses; they have three.  Gonna be hard to get in the regional rankings even if they don't lose again.

They have three, but one is to a DII school at the beginning of the year.

Late to the party here, but kuddos to UMHB. I don't think that they are 30 points better than HSU, but that is what you get when you commit 4 turnovers and give up special team plays. This makes two straight years that we have been shut out in the second half. I don't know whether to blame that on our OC or just to give Harmon a ton of credit.

I feel like you won't see some of the same things that you saw with last years team where we squeaked out wins against teams like Belhaven and McMurry. I just hope HSU gets into the post season and allows us to play in Texas, perhaps San Antonio.

Thanks Ralph. I could possibly offer more info, but apparently not without editorializing based on my feelings about current HSU admiistration. I do not want to do that; so,I will refrain

Ahhhh where is the fun in that Toby haha with all seriousness is it Saturday yet?
I will gladly editorialize in person, standing in front of my name on the HSU alumni wall wearing Cru gear on Saturday if you want to hear the deets. And, sadly, no. It isn't saturday I have 4 more days of middle schoolers before we get there.

I have two degrees from HSU and worked at the University under the current Administration. Will be at the game Saturday and would love to hear your opinions.

Hey folks, non-southerner here super excited for the Hardin-Simmons Hardin-Baylor game. Just wanted to double check that the game will be free to stream or will it be behind a paywall? Thanks!

HSU will have a free broadcast for the game on hsuathletics.com. Great video quality and play by play is non-biased. Good stuff.

On the off chance nobody saw this on the front page yesterday:

'We don't necessarily have a controversy. We just have two really good quarterbacks.'

This may just be me, but I think King has regressed since the HSU game. I know that he has battled some injuries, but it seems like the offense hums better with Redding under center. Any UMHB fans want to correct me or back me up?

As for the game Saturday, it's all going to depend which offensive line shows up for UMHB. If the line shows up that played Trinity and played the first half of the HSU game. Linfield by 10. If it's the one that came out in the second half against HSU and who came last week, UMHB by 7. Really interesting matchup this week.
