How 'bout them Augie Vikings. They played great D and controlled the boards to earn the victory against a great IWU squad. IWU played well in the 2nd half to close it to 1, but the horrible officiating where Augie did much better on the line tonight was a contributing factor as well.  I agree with an earlier post and that officiating crew could be hearing from the office. These officials assigned to the game should have been the top line officials. 56 called fouls on both teams seems a little out of line. But, I'm quite sure that Coach G LIT INTO THE TEAM after that horrible effort against Carthage. This was a completely different Augie squad that showed up tonight. Congratulations to Augie on a great effort. Now, Carthage suffered a rough loss against NCC. 'Carthage's 3 of 4 conference losses have been at home (AC, NCC, WC). NCC has beaten CC twice. Not looking good for the Redman. I believe that loser of the CC/WC game goes home. Anyway, the CCIW action is just heating up.

OUCH!! that hurts.  This was Augie's worst game of the season. IWU completely dominated in all phases tonight.  But tomorrow is another day.  Time for Augie to regroup and get 'em again this Saturday.

I am looking forward to tonight's game between Augie and Illinois Wesleyan. It's gonna be a fight to the finish. I know that Washington University beat Illinois Weslyan badly this year and Augie beat Washington University Badly this year. But, whenever these two schools meet it is always a war. IWU beat Augie by a wide margin in the final game last year at the Shirk. Augie is going to remember that Beatdown. Believe me, Illinois Wesleyan will be ready to play this evening and Augie will certainly not overlook them. Go Augie!!

I'm surprised Massey has IWU over #11 Wash U, even with home court advantage.

That game between IWU & WashU will be a fight to the finish.  Augie plays them later in the non-conference part of their schedule in St.Louis.  Along with UW-Stevens Point and that has the makings of a very tough non-conference part of the schedule.  The CCIW should get a lot more respect from the media as one of the toughest conferences in the country.  Maybe 3 maybe 4 teams get in if their record is sufficient.  5 teams from a New England conference got in last year.  I'd like to see the CCIW get hyped up like the east coast conferences and see that the CCIW gets its just due.

Thank you IWU70.  It sounds like you have an excellent offensive scoring team that can go 8 or so deep.  It would take a pretty good defensive effort to stop you guys.  Excellent job tonight as Augie and IWU complete A 4-0 record on the Illinois Michigan challenge.  This season is gonna be a great one.  NCC lost in 2 OT's's and Carthage also lost tonight.  Now, it's on to Champaign to take on the Fighting Illini.  I believe that Augie can give Illinois a great game.  Anyway, happy holidays to all.

You're right Augie fan. Augie looks very good against Calvin College tonight. Tomorrow Alma comes in to complete the Illinois Michigan challenge. They got to keep playing their best ball all year long. So far, I am very impressed with their season starts so far at 2-0.  Next week Augie goes down to Champaign to play the University of Illinois. I believe they can give them a great game. Good luck tomorrow against Alma.

Don't underestimate the NPU squad just yet.  I was at the game last year in Chicago where North Park beat Augie in OT.  Colin Lake is one heck of a playmaker and a great shooter.  He took charge early on in that game and was very tough to handle.  He makes his teammates on the court better players.  They beat us twice last year.  So don't count them out.  The CCIW is one of the toughest conferences in the country, and every victory by the conference members will truly be earned.  You've got NCC, CARTHAGE, IWU, as well as NPU and even CARROLL that will battle it out.  Carroll beat us at their place last year.  Augie has that big time experience from last year's run.  Even Wheaton gave us trouble last year where both victories had to be earned.  I do not know too much about Elmhurst, or Millikin.  If Washington U. wanted to be a basketball member as well, the CCIW would be classified as a SUPER CONFERENCE.  But they will dominate the conference that they're in.  With Colin Lake on your team, there's hope for NPU.  Have a great season.  In conclusion, I want to wish a wonderful and fantastic retirement to my longtime track and field coach, Paul Olsen.  May be enjoy his retirement to the fullest.

To Kovo, those were some tough hard hitting games back then. Now, it's NCC and IWU going after the victories this weekend, which will not be easy.  For me, it's on to the basketball season. Let the games begin.

I am new at this. This will be my first ever post on the forum.  I went to Augustana College in the early 80's and saw a dynasty starting to take shape.  Coach Reade's squads were winning national championships 4 years in a row.  Believe me, nothing gets better than that.  Now, since Coach Cushman was hired until the present, the football program goes into a serious decline.  In fact, Coach Cushman's first year ended with their first losing season since 1978, a 33 year run.  They haven't had a winning season since.  Coach Bell has NOT been able to fix the problem.  I agree with all of the past forum members posting about the state of Augustana football, but one thing that was not mentioned. The Augustana defense.  They say offense wins games and defense wins championships. I truly believe that.  These past 7 years under Cushman & Bell have all of the defenses rank in the top 10 in Augustana history.  This year's defense would be the equivalent of a meeting between Dean 'Wermer and the Delta frat, with Dean Wermer saying:  "Mr. 'Blutarsky, zero point zero".  This year's Augustana defense was the worst in school history.  Most points given up, worst scoring % on opponents drives, worst 3rd down rate, worst turnover margin and the list goes on including 3 blowout losses (Carthage, North Central, and Wheaton).  Unfortunately, the same assistant coaches were still in place ALL 3 of Coach Bell's years.  This 7 year stretch by Cushman & Bell produced the most losses in that span in school history. I am not even comparing this to other teams in the CCIW.  Just on Augie's history.  In order to get better on the field, you MUST FIX THE PROBLEM!!!  This current coaching staff, head coach included, needed to address this during their games they played.  As an alum, it makes me sick to my stomach to see this kind of football being played.  I hope that some Augustana administrators as well as personnel in the athletic department read this article which shows, not just me, but SEVERAL Augie alumni feel about the direction of our football program.  I want each administrator and employee of Augustana College to care about this program and to do the absolute right thing to correct the decline of the football program, ONCE AND FOR ALL.
