OT:  Seeing my parents' decline physically and observing others of the older generation, I all too frequently these days tell people that "stairs are the enemy of the elderly."  'Twas extremely difficult for Dad to accept that moving out of the house in Mpls was in his best interest.

Shine on, Mr. Ypsi!

I haven't felt the need to move, but did have a chairlift installed a few months ago - going up was not a problem, but going down had gotten rather scary!

Mine goes faster down then up.  You will get use to it.

Well, I see now that I am not the only old one with problems.  Due to mobility, I haven't been traveling to any games the last few years, but still pay attention to the CCIW.  Any thoughts as to how many wins will be needed for the CCIW tournament and then for the at large in the D3?

Remaining games for the top six:

* North Central 9-2 (vs Elmhurst, at Augustana, at Carroll, vs Carthage, at Wheaton)

* Augustana 9-3 (at Illinois Wesleyan, vs North Central, vs Carthage, vs North Park)

* Elmhurst 9-3 (at North Central, at Illinois Wesleyan, vs Millikin, vs Carroll)

* Illinois Wesleyan 8-3 (vs Augustana, vs Elmhurst, at Wheaton, at North Park, at Carthage)

* Wheaton 6-5 (at North Park, at Carroll, vs Illinois Wesleyan, vs Millikin, vs North Central)

* Carthage 5-6 (at Millikin, vs North Park, at Augustana, at North Central, vs Illinois Wesleyan)

If you plug Massey's number in:

13-3          Elmhurst
13-3          Augustana
12-4          North Central
10-6          Wheaton
9-7            IL Weslyan
8-8            Carthage
4-12          Carroll
2-14          North Park
1-15          Millikin

Elmhurst, Augustana and North Central  Have over .700 no mater how they will do in the CCIW tournament.

Still have to play them but the top 3 control their destiny.

Elmhurst, North Central and Augustana clinch CCIW Tournament slots.

Just took a glance at Massey.  It is showing both Augie and Elmhurst running the table. Wheaton 5-2, NC and Bosko going 3-3, IWU 3-4, Carrol 2-4 and both NPU and Millikin win less.

Closest chances of error North Central 41% over Elmhurst, Wheaton over Augie 49%, North Central over Wheaton 47% and IWU over Carthage 47%.

So with info the prediction is

Elmhurst
14-2
Augustana
13-3
North Central
11-5
Wheaton
11-5
IWU
9-7
Carthage
7-9
Carroll
7-9
North Park
2-8
Millikin
1-9

I still thing that that 3 or 4 losses will win the conference.  5 or more losses might make it but don't bet on it. 6 or more losses no Pool C.

Will we know something by tonight about who the top teams are?  Hoping for a four way time for the end of the first half of conference play.  Most likely will not get it but hoping!

That's hard to read. You should format it as a table, Bobby.
Thanks for the recommendation now only learn how to do that.  I have the information in Excel but copy and paste did this to me and then when I tried to fix it then it posted it.  I wish I was younger.  My computer experience in college was Fortran, COBAL and Assembler.  I quit after Assembler.   If it wasn't for Professor Ray Ford's help I would have flunked!

Elmhurst's win at Wheaton was the first at King Arena since the 2008-09 season.  Solid week for Elmhurst I didn't expect the Jays to take both road games.  The team is looking sharper and more crisp.   Hope they can sustain this throughout the remainder of the season.
They have played better than I expected! Big game with IWU Wednesday, if the Jays win and NC loses to Augustana then I would have to make them the favorite for the title. Any of the top 5 can win the conference.  Of course the big deal is the AQ and if you win the CCIW you get to host!

KC and the NAIA tourney is a good time, maybe because I was a kid and got to skip school for a week. Stevens Point went three years in a row (my dad taught at Point and was the pep band director). 1st year the pep band stayed at a church and showered at the local YWCA. The following year we stayed in a real hotel and had to keep calling and asking the university for more money because Point unexpectedly made it to the Final where we lost to Fort Hays St. The 3rd year we were expected to have a long stay (high seed) and got bounced in the 2nd round. We were lead by some guy named Terry Porter, who had a pretty good NBA career with the Portland Trailblazers.

My three trips in the early 70s were some of my best times at Augie.  in 72 a last second basket won the game and they closed the school because of our intent to travel.  The main theme next year was "Back to KC in 73".  Almost screwed that up because we bypassed the first game for classes and nearly got upset in Round 1.  An interesting call by our home town refs game us the win at the end.  74 we didn't wait and went right away.  That was our last trip for KC but in 75 we went to Reading PA for inaugural NCAA D3.  Drove through an Ice storm to get there.

Incidentally, for anyone wondering why IWU was so delayed in switching completely to D3, there were two main reasons.  First (and probably most crucially) it was respect for Jack Horenberger, who was a 'founding father' of the NAIA - if I remember the time-line correctly, they dropped the NAIA affiliation soon AFTER Coach Horenberger's death.  Secondly, Kansas City was one helluva great tourney - 16 teams all in town for a straight-thru party 'til only one team remained standing!  In 1970 we had the misfortune of playing eventual champion Kentucky State in the first game; we can take comfort that we gave them a closer game than anyone else!

My texters/e-mailers are also taking exception with Chuck.

The NAIA tournament was 32 teams...not 16.  Here is the 1969-70 bracket - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1970_NAIA_Men%27s_Basketball_Tournament#1970_NAIA_bracket.

Carry on.

IWU's mid 70's star Jack Sikma was a non-scholarship member! IMO one of the best ever in the CCIW!

I would have to say that NC has been playing good ball and if I was betting (which I am not) I would be putting money on them.  The truth is that the CCIW is crazy.  Some things may come to light this week.

Wheaton has Carthage tonight at home, Augustana at Carver Wednesday and Elmhurst Saturday.  If they can win all three it would appear that they should be consider in the top tier.  If they lose all three, they will have to dig deep down to get in the hunt.

Carthage has Wheaton tonight, Elmhurst in Kenosha Wednesday and Milikin Saturday.  If they lose all three like Wheaton they will have to question their season.

If Elmhurst can win their two road games this week then perhaps NC may not be the favorite

Augie needs a big win on Wednesday and watch the upset at Foster and Kedzie this Saturday.  Yes I think NPU may upset them.

IWU again has to watch out this week because NPU or Carroll just may pull an upset.

NC has to watch out which team in Decatur shows up.  The team yesterday or the one that beat WashU.

Crazy year!

Lee's on 38th and 14th now an Auto Parts Store, The Hilltopper 30th and 13th still there.  2nd Ave would be in the Mississippi River.  Make me laugh!

The Hilltopper or just Kavies we called it was my Heaven. Many a days I Irished up some coffee on the walk down campus.

Senior year my favorite hangout was Hunter's on 5th Avenue near 21st Street.  Best burgers in the Quad Cities and walking distance from the house rented on 22nd Street.  Unfortunately one night as we were leaving (7 of us who lived in an old house now on the Historical List) a gentleman came in and sat down in the back at a booth.  Next thing we knew Rock Island Police and Para Medics show up.  He had been shot on 22nd Street just north of where we lived.  Last time we walked there!

Who is the top team in the League, IWU, Wheaton, NC or Elmhurst?

I don't think Augustana should be excluded from this list.

Seems like the 5 current 1-loss teams are all extremely even.

I think the CCIW champ will go 3-1 vs Carthage and Carroll and 4-0 vs North Park and Millikin.

Augie has to prove they can keep their head in the game.  Too much letting them back in.  I'm just hoping for a bid this year.  Conference Champs 6 in a row would be great.  Automatic Bid and I think I will have died and gone to Augie Heaven.

Isn't that just a bar on 2nd Ave.
