Bantamweight hit the nail on the head with that analysis:

-Hats off to Coach Raymond for bringing the house and dialing up some blitzes after 6 games of mostly conservative defensive playcalling--6 sacks and 13 TFLs speaks for itself--but there were no adjustments made at any point in the game by Trinity. #25, Luke Apuzzi was completely unchecked all game coming off the edge--would assume the OL is told to slide to the right as it is Lambert's preferred side, but he must've been hit by Apuzzi on 10+ plays, either finishing off a read option or after a throw.

-Harris seems like a talented runner, but again the playcalling did him no favors. Every single run design was the exact same--an off tackle run to the outside out of the shotgun. With a LB corps like Williams that is elite at moving and tackling in space, that is never going to work. More experienced and knowledgeable Trinity fans of the board can correct me if I'm wrong, but between the Cerberus of WRs and other talents on the offense, shouldn't there be a little more creativity that comes with that?

-If I'm not mistaken, the play was for Harshbarger to throw to Maimaron a la "Philly Special" but Maimaron was covered and so he kept himself. Pretty sure he played baseball in high school (if Mr. Harshbarger is still checking the board maybe he could inform us) so they trusted his arm, but either way a tremendous play. Wish the Trinity/Williams highlights on the EphSports YouTube page didn't consist of cellphone videos from the sideline this week and we could check it out for ourselves.

Do not know whether that was a designed run or pass on the 2-pt conversion.  Paul had multiple thrown conversions in high school and a few deep passes though none were completions.  In baseball, Paul led his high school team to the state championship game as their catcher (and lead-off hitter).

If you are interested in some insight into him our regional paper did a profile at the end of the baseball season as our team headed to the state championships.  https://www.timesunion.com/sports/article/Harshbarger-eyes-grand-finale-13969976.php

A relative watching NSN stream of Williams v Bates heard announcer say the Nov 2 Williams @ Wesleyan game would not be available via NSN stream as that game would be broadcast nationally by another organization.  Can anyone here shed light on this?

I'm a little late making this post, but it was nice to see Nescacman show some love for the Continentals last week. As I drove into Willytown on Saturday morning I did see some flying barnyard animals(rhyming with big) fly by! And that was BEFORE the visit to the dispensary! Who knew that Stola would become Jerry Rice? He was really otherworldly with his 4 TDs. He was actually pretty well covered on three of them. He got Wesley Walker- like separation on the last one. Mamaron is an exceptional play action ball handler. Hamilton did a decent job against the run early, but once the QB/WR combo got going, we knew it was going to be a difficult day. NESCAC 1's analysis is spot on. I was thinking about the defensive challenge posed by Mamaron/Stola on my drive through the peak scenery. Ideally, you'd like to spy the QB, but then you lose an extra guy to help on brackets and doubles. Hamilton showed some punch on offense, with Kagan and Gray prominent. Not getting a TD on the opening drive was a killer. Kagan is legit, he is deceptively quick, and he punishes tacklers. Even without Wagner and Schmidt, the Conts have some playmakers in the passing game, they just don't have as much elite talent. Hamilton is nobody's punching bag, and they'll have a chance to beat a top tier team with Amherst, Tufts, and Middlebury ahead.

To my eyes the young frosh Joel Nichols has to be accounted for in any defensive scheme against Williams.  He averaged 7+ YPC the last three games and repeatedly gouged Opponents on the RPO up the middle.  Combined with Stola, who is winning jump balls so well he doesn't even need to get open, makes the Eph offense very formidable.

Beautiful evening in Willytown last night.  They had a fine bbq dinner for the young men and their families, out on the lawn behind the stands.  What a wonderful welcome to the entire football family, and a family it is.

We are blessed to be in the local area (by Nescac standards).  A couple of families were in from afar, and returning there shortly.  If they are like us, they have been at their son's every game his whole life.  Now, he's 1000 miles away and some of the games, they just aren't going to be there. That's a gut punch to be sure.

Our extended family, unfortunately, will be following along from a distance, too.

What are the best options for remote people to stay on top of games?

Agree, it was a delightful night in Williytown on Saturday.   The BBQ was great, but too short - so many people to see.

The new Williams Inn, BTW, is fantastic.

Re staying in touch, get the NSN (Northeast Sports Network) app for streaming.   If you do not have it readily available, you can get it with an Amazon Fire stick.  All NESCAC FB games are broadcast via NSN

I will get that setup and pass on the info on seeing the games!

harlequinfarm....nice info wrt Williams' football program.
Expect new family members of the football family will find their way to keep in touch with their sons.  Watch the games online and start posting here and attend a few live games.
Many years ago, I posted here about parents from New Orleans that rented a house in Amherst during the season.  Even brought their Chef up to have a big cook out before games.  Their son was the QB.

The Purple People Feeders reached out to us so we will be joining the crew feeding the boys.  Can't say they'll have crawfish etouffe though!

My middle son is Jayce Silvea, FY Olineman at Wesleyan. From all the way down at Merritt Island High School in Florida (Cape Canaveral area). My oldest son will be a Senior at Amherst. He played 2 seasons of football at Linebacker before a reoccurring bad high Ankle injury made him hang up his cleats for good.

Have a third son who is 13 that I am trying to get in front of the William's coaches soon so we can have a Little 3 rivalry under one roof! Looking forward to football season!!!

Go Wes!!!

You court conflict, sir, and I respect that!

As another newbie to NESCAC I'm excited to hear that there's competitive developments afoot across the conference.  Makes it interesting and brings additional dimensions of the matchups into play.

Regarding our Colby fan, I thought his elaboration on the change in attitude with the coaching transition was cogent, relevant, and insightful.  I don't have the scar tissue long term posters have, so I hope this represents a new leaf and new focus on the team going forward, with more insights appreciated by all.  And then I hope Colby loses to Williams.

Amh63 my son will be coming in with class of '23 as he just committed....  Alas, coach offered and son accepted before that could be done

Congratulations to your son for getting to this point in the process.  But as others have noted, there is no "commitment" till the ED Acceptance letter arrives, and no NESCAC coach can extend an "offer"; that is the sole purview of Admissions.  And some Admissions Departments really get their knickers in a knot if an applicant or the applicant's parents are crowing publicly about being "committed".

We've all seen situations where, for one reason or another, a kid who had expressed interest in a program and got a tip from a coach didn't get accepted.  We've all been in your shoes and understand the excitement, but I think our collective advice would be to keep a low profile, enjoy your boy's final high school season, and hope that "the letter" does, in fact, arrive in December.

Excellent advise.  Thank you.

It's good your son got the commitment for support in the early decision process now. Many find themselves waiting around to see if they can possibly latch onto an IV team so there's typically a scramble in the fall as spots get used up around the nescac league. Virtually all the players that get Ivy slots end up going.

It was my hope that my son would land in the NESCAC, esp. after I learned about the proactive measures taken by the league to a.) put athletics in proper balance with academics while b.) promoting and supporting athletics as an important component of the college experience for both participants and the school.  You can't deny the IV brands, and hard to argue with the sentiment "if you get into Harvard you go to Harvard." But we all know there are damn good arguments why the NESCAC schools are better for the student-athlete, arguments I find persuasive.

My son has already commented that people don't know the Williams (Bowdoin, Colby, Midd, Bates, Amherst, Trinity, Hamilton, Tufts, Wesleyan, ConnC) brand.  I just tell him "people who don't know, don't know.  But people who know, know."

That is very interesting and exciting.  Thanks for sharing.  Regardless of how the roster looks I'm sure my son will be glad to be on the team and contributing anyway he can.

harlequinfarm, if you want to list your position, I can offer some semi-informed analysis from an Eph perspective.

More generally, the reality is, despite Williams' success last year, Williams remains thin at just about every position outside of maybe QB (Maimaron has three years left and I'd say is a lock to start so long as he remains healthy, and there will likely be three other frosh/soph QBs of indeterminate quality on this year's roster, and of course only one QB can play at a time).  The Ephs will need another two full recruiting cycles to recover from the prior regime, so Williams isn't going to even have a full 75 man roster until 2019 at the earliest, as opposed to some other NESCAC powers who have to cut down to get to 75.  This fall, Williams has in my view really strong talent returning at every starting spot except center and defensive tackle, which is a giant unknown (all four guys who saw PT last year graduated).  But depth is a huge question mark everywhere.  I think most of this year's frosh, and probably many of next year's, will start out no worse than second on the depth chart at most positions if they are really talented.  It's not like Trinity where you might come in 3rd or 4th on the depth chart even as a stud recruit.

For example, Williams had only one healthy full-time TE last year, and he saw nearly every snap it seemed like on offense ... the two other guys who played snaps in that the spot were a FB/TB/TE and a FB/LB/TE.   OL, last year Williams went basically seven guys' deep, and I doubt it will be much different this year.  And so on ...
