Unfortunately not the outcome I wanted but tip of the hat to UWW they played well. No excuse here but when you've had 4 of the starting 5 O-Line go out for the season it makes it hard to get the offense going. When you play a team of UWW caliber you can't be 1 dimensional if so they pin their ears back and double that with going against an inexperienced O-Line makes it tough. Losing Akeem Jackson along with other defensive starters playing with fractured arms and other major injuries was just to much.

Thanks to the coaches and players I've had a great time watching y'all the last 2 years.

Huntingdon (and some other 3/4 defenses) was shading to the inside of a slot or H-back and would end up walking into the box late thus "loading the box". But when we throw the WR screens to the outside, that's an outside running play of sorts. What's hurt us is the vision and setting up down field blocks to spring open a big play on those screens. As far a true running game from what I've seen is some of the RB just aren't seeing some of the holes. Which is what made Markeith so fun to watch his vision and setting up his blockers.

Moving into uww the margin of error drastically shrinks but I still believe in Coach Fred and Coach Lee to setup the offense to be successful. I scratched my head at some of the comments on here thinking that The Cru offense is supposed to put up 100's of points every week. Some years you have all the guys in place and some years like this you've got to fight through adversity and injuries (and we've had a ton this year). If you can remember the run from last year a lot of the same people on here was crying about the offense play calling, slow QB, etc... and at the end of the day that team had the #1 scoring offense and scored the most points for UMHB in a Stagg Bowl.

The fact remains the same Coach Fred is a defensive guy (and a very good one at that) and human nature is you always lean to what you know. So if y'all have to call it being conservative so be it as long as we go Back to Back so be it.

If the UMHB staff is ever planning on coming up with a cohrent gameplan on offense, this coming week is the time. The "playing not to lose" approach worked fine against vastly inferior foes in the first two rounds, but this strategy of bumbling around on offense until superior talent takes over won't get us beyond next week

You got that right...there aren't  any Redlands or Huntingdon left going forward.
I have the faith the Cru will adjust to what needs to be done. UWW is a very worthy opponent to have concerns about, we have had mixed results over the years, One close 1 point loss and a victory, but I'm still behind the Cru. We will see come Saturday, as we found out against HSU, it takes one.

And speaking about that, does anyone have any insight as to why during HSU the Cru were using boards to signal the plays, and no other time against any opposition this season they have done the same? Just...curious

I agree. They've made adjustments along the way. I would have liked to see our run game improve, but I guess the defense was loading the box. Did anyone notice this? I tried to spot this, but I never felt like the box was loaded. Perhaps they were "run blitzing"?

Anyways, I think our D is up to the challenge and that our O can do enough.

He was not very happy with his performance after the game. But to think any QB was going to connect on every throw against that defense is beyond foolish. As noted by the 5 sacks. He will take the blame for this one.

Line them up and let's get it on. Doesn't really matter what or how the NCAA come to their decision if you want to go home the Walnut n Bronze you've got to beat the guys next across the field. Whoever it might be.

Some interesting numbers for the Cru's 1st round matchup.
1. UMHB has the 3rd best scoring offense and scoring defense.
2. Redlands is #1 in the country in turnover margin with UMHB in 2nd.
3. Anthony Avila (UMHB) is #1 in FG per game.
4. Khore Day (Redlands) is 3rd best in punt returns.
5. Redlands are 4th best w/ rush defense (51.5 yrds per gm)
6. The Cru is 4th w/ total defense

Could be a fun matchup. The new season begins with only 32 teams still playing. Let's go CRU!!

The biggest thing for me was the offense line, they were phenomenal!!  The push that they had on running plays and protection they gave on passing plays was great to see. All against a very good D-Line. Great job CRU O-Line

In my opinion that was the most complete game the Cru has played all season Defense, Offense, and Special Teams.

Defense had a tough task in holding off Freeman (the kid is dynamic) but held them to no TDs.

Offense moved the ball with long time eating drives and finishing with points (other than the blocked FG n back to back drives ending inside the 5)

Special Teams Fritz w/ a punt inside the 5, Gibson's punt returns, and Anthony Avila!! Let's say it again Avila is the best kicker in the country!!!!

Great win today against a strong opponent.

Prayers for Akeem Jackson the young man has played great all year. Go CRU!!

So what are some predictions for the "Conference Championship"?

UMHB 45
TLU 13

What say y'all?

The CRU played good but still has some things to clean up. A few blown coverages, some snap and hand off issues, and kick coverage. I really liked the up tempo look on offense. It definitely gave a much needed boost in the run game. Not talking bad but LC was extremely overmatched.

This week should be a fun game. TLU is good!!!

Maybe we will get some more bodies back from injuries.

The problem is injuries. We've had a ton!! A lot of O-Line are playing with tough injuries, lost the possible starting RB (Linfield transfer) before the season, lost KJ n Sims (that hurts both at WRs n K/P Returners. We're haven't seen the Defense n Special teams scoring like last year.

I believe the Coach Fred has so much confidence in the Defense, that it makes the play calling on Offense be a little more conservative and CRU FANatic's don't like that. Jo'Vel will be a really good RB with a little more time.

We just need to take care of the last 3 conference games and get to the playoffs playing well. Doesn't matter how you start, it's all about the finish!!

Does anyone have the link to Coach Fred's coaches show this week? I know they had away to listen to the previous week.

Please enough talk about UMHB/NCAA. An appeal process is in place for issues like this. Let's talk about football.

Can Howard Payne get back to putting up some points like they did early on?

How does hsu respond after thinking about the loss from TLU for a couple of weeks?

Can Belhaven put up a fight?

Will TLU continue it's winning ways in dominating fashion?

Can Sul Ross stay focused and get another win after the longest road trip in the conference (11.5 hrs/800 miles one way)?

How many QBs will play in the UMHB/Southwestern game? O/U 5

:( looks like Jase Hammack is hurt again. Helped off the field with 49 left in the first half.

Nope, Hammack will be ok, at most a grade 2 MCL strain. He felt like he could have gone back in if he was needed.

I was thinking the same thing. I hope he gets a few starts so what he can do as The Guy.

So, the UMHB vs ETBU game this weekend should be the final game of Marquis Duncan's suspension right?  He was always very impressive with how shifty of a runner he was and had an amazing jump cut.  I wonder where he will fit in the running back by committee they have going.

Another reason for throwing late on the game was Mcmurry insisted on playing man to man so that brought more guys in the box which force UMHB QBs to throw more. Had they backed out guarantee Coach Lee would've dialed up more run plays.

TLU has a very good team.  They were opportunistic on turnovers which was the key factor in this game.  Statistically, they did not match HSU and had there been no turnovers, it would likely have been a different outcome.  But turnovers count.  Just like they did in 2015 when HSU was on the ropes and TLU turned the ball over and had untimely penalties.  If TLU can hang w/ UMHB, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't get a post-season bid so long as they don't get upset by someone else.  UMHB needs to get tested.  Belhaven was not a test, even though the score indicated a tight game.  McMurry is in the first year of a new staff and is made up of mainly freshmen and sophomores, so they were in no position to present any kind of a challenge to UMHB.  Was a bit surprised that UMHB was throwing the ball so late in that game, but they do have to work on their passing game.  Just felt that it was a little bit over-the-top.

No new injuries come out of the Mcmurry game. Looks like Big Isaiah Johnson could be ready to return after setting out last 2 games. That will be a "Big " boost to the guys up front on the D-Line.

UMHB will have to continue to win on the outside with WRs, and I'd like to see them go across the middle with a couple of those tall TEs. I don't feel like they have been utilized enough. TLU will try to clamp on the run as they have done in the past. We need to get some more momentum in the run game and be prepared to wear down the DLine. I didn't keep track, but I doubt TLU has the depth to sustain a constant run game. If HSU can get Hemphill 300+, we should be able to get that combined.

Any updates on injuries out there?
