If you look at the Amherst quadrant, there are a lot of very strong teams from the Midwest.  It seems to me that even if Amherst makes the sectionals (sweet) 16, Amherst will very likely have to have to fly. That could be significant. A lot has to happen and Amherst would have to win a few games, but it will interesting to see how these things shake out in this quadrant.

Also, as an aside, it's not perfect, but I am a big fan of the NPI because of transparency. The dials are set for next year, but I expect the system will improve in the future as the dials get adjusted. The weekly and later daily publication of the NPI was a great decision by the NCAA. Also, as noted in other posts, the NCAA has taken over the streaming for the the games in the tournament. Presumably that means no pay wall. What a great way to make the quality of these teams and matches more accessible to everybody, especially families who can't travel and recruits. Well done, NCAA, very well done. What a great event.  Can't wait.

Kuip, for what it's worth, I appreciate what you do. I know many others who do as well. Keep it up.

Re: the NCAA championship and the West, I'm no expert in D3 Soccer bracketology, but based on past brackets, I predict CMS will be sent to Trinity (Texas) for the first round. Trinity will have the #1 seed and will probably play someone like Pacific Lutheran. CMS will play the winner of the ACS, probably Hardin Simmons, but that is not a certainty. Assuming Trinity and CMS win their first games they will play each other in the second round.  That will be a game to watch because both teams are skilled and have crafty players on the ball. But more importantly, Ed Cartee was a long time assistant coach at Trinity before taking the job at CMS.

Friday 5:00 CST — St. Thomas at Texas Lutheran. Last year this game was a blood bath. Six red cards and ten yellow cards. Head butting, a broken broken leg, the ref lost control of the game early. Not a good look for either team. This year, both teams are fighting for a place in the conference tournament. It will be interesting to see if the teams can keep their emotions under control and still play with high energy. It will be a tough game to ref. I'm not making any predictions for this game, but I predict there will be two yellow cards in the first 10 minutes. The players will get the message.  No red cards. The game will be relatively tame, and rather boring, which I think we all will appreciate. St. Thomas will win 1-0.

This should be posted under games you may have missed this week. St Olaf lost to Wisconsin Platteville last night 0-1. I caught the last 20 minutes. UWP was scrappy on defense, but St Olaf looks very good.

Carleton (3-0-3) at Gustavus Adolphus (5-0-1) tomorrow, Tuesday, September 17, at 4:00 CST. This MIAC showdown will will provide an answer for those who are questioning if Gustavus is for real. I'm not making any predictions for this one. Gustavus will win 2-0.

Quote from: CC United on September 03, 2024, 02:53:17 PMCalvin have two tough away games this weekend.

Friday: 6:00 pm ET Calvin (2-0-0) at Ohio Wesleyan (2-0-0).
Saturday 7:00 pm ET Calvin at Ohio Northern (1-1).

ONU had a tough loss (3-2) at Kenyon on Friday but I expect they will be up for an important home game against Calvin. I'm not going to make any predictions. ONU will beat Calvin 2-1.

Ohio Northern beat Calvin 5-1. There are a lot of good teams this year. It's going to be a roller coaster season.

This may be old news, but it looks like the golden goal is back for the NCAA post season overtime play.

No. 25 for St Thomas, Daniel Malheiros, is not on the 2023 web page roster for St Thomas. He's the player who received the red card for the nasty challenge on the TLU player with about 11 minutes left in the game. Daniel Malheiros is listed on the 2022 St Thomas roster as a Freshman from Brazil. He has no statistics for this year. I have no idea what this means. I was only looking because I was interested in his yellow and red card history.
