Calvin 61, Kalamazoo 49.

I think both teams were shorthanded. Kalamazoo only played 7 guys, but that might be typical for them.
...
Kalamazoo mostly opted to play zone against Calvin.

From what I've seen this year, K usually only goes 7 or 8 deep, and plays exclusively zone.

Before Kzoo loses the rest of their games, I want to give some credit to the K coaching staff for getting their guys ready to play with so little practice time. Starting the season against one of the best teams in the country that has already played nine games isn't ideal, but they rebounded nicely against teams that also had already played many games. Obviously Olivet and Alma aren't world-beaters, but winning is worth something.

I was surprised to see Kalamazoo as the tallest over this stretch...

Certainly didn't seem to do us any good!  ;)

Kalamazoo now has an "unpublished" roster, which looks to be only players from last years team who returned.  Missing from last year (those who could have potentially returned) are:

Jarnard Smith (15.0min-6.6pts-0.7reb)

https://hornets.kzoo.edu/sports/mbkb/2020-21/roster

I'm pretty sure Jarnard transferred to Albion. He was on their provisional roster for 20-21 earlier and still has a player page on their site, but he's not currently listed on the roster. Regardless, I know he transferred somewhere, which is disappointing but not surprising because he's an extremely hard worker and talented player who was probably going to have a good year as the starting pg.

Adrian College, Calvin University, and Trine University are exploring options to compete in all fall sports that they normally sponsor.

According to the Adrian, Calvin and Trine athletics websites, they are looking at options for playing an Independent/Non Conference schedule this fall.  More news to come on this...

Good luck. It's pretty ridiculous, and you could argue irresponsible, that they're even considering playing D3 football right now.

Kzoo twitter:
ReiHam Gundy  6-2 F  Washtenaw International will attend Kalamazoo

Its been a couple days since Kzoo updated introducing their class, so I assume they're done at the 5 we have.

For what it's worth, ReiHam has gone to Kzoo for a while now and I think he's going to be a senior this year. Pretty sure they're just letting him try out. I don't anticipate him contributing much on the court.

Kzoo is announcing its incoming class via social media. First announcement is someone not yet on the list--Alex Rueff, 6'2" G, Lawton HS in Lawton, MI.

Kzoo apparently has had a third recruit for a while: Sam Coleman out of La Jolla Country Day in San Diego, CA. MaxPreps says he's 6'3".

1. With Kzoo breaking its skid against Hope, what is the longest winning streak of an MIAA school over another? Could it be Calvin's 5 game streak over Hope?

I know Kzoo hasn't beat Albion since 2014, so that's what, 12 games? Probably tough to find a streak longer than that.

With his 262nd career assist on Wednesday, Tanner Blyly broke the Kalamazoo record for assists in a career. Previous record holder was Dirk Rhinehart, who played from 1999-2003.
