Likewise, HSC would likely need NYU and Tufts to lose for second weekend hosting.

^^^  I had that same question initially.  Whereas, CNU Women are highly ranked in the poll, I think they're only #20 in NPI, outside the Top 16 for hosting.  A one loss team being as low as #20 is also curious.

Quote from: algernon on March 03, 2025, 04:21:03 PMHowever, I'm still not clear on whether the NYU men or the NYU women have the priority on hosting the second weekend.  The women have the priority the FIRST weekend.  Do they continue to have priority the SECOND weekend, or will the NYU men have priority the second weekend?

Men have priority second weekend this year.

Thanks for the info, el_jefe_90.  That's good for the Yellow Jacket men!

Only if Trinity loses.  Otherwise, YJs head to Connecticut.

As to first round ODAC games, I think HSC got the easiest match up, while GC has the toughest.

HSC got to host, but their students are on spring break the next two weekends.  May diminish the home court advantage.

Good luck to all ODAC teams!

^^^  Thanks!!

If I remember correctly,  the NCAA controlled the viewing options for football playoffs and it was on a pay for view.

Is that going to be the case for basketball as well?

As to officiating, I've not watch any of the ODAC games in Salem.  But, I generally agree with comments above.  I'd also say, that I did watch the end of the Tennessee game and the whole Duke game yesterday, and the officiating there was not good either.

As to RMC 3-point shooting in Salem Civic Center, just converting 2 of the 13 missed 3 points as 2 pointers in the second half may have won the game.  I don't have any historical stats, but my impression is that RMC seldom shoots well in the SCC.

Interesting that RMC women were just 1-15 yesterday on 3s, but ironically won.

My novice advice to the Jackets.  DON'T SHOOT THE 3 IN SALEM!  It's something we've seldom done well in that venue.

Should be an interesting game today with GC.  Both teams are playing well, but here's hoping that Hasa's Quakers come up short today.

Was hoping to meet HSC in the conference playoffs, to avenge those early losses.  May still happen in the nationals.

Another observation that excites me for the Jackets is the recent play of 6-6 freshman Ty Showalter.  In the last two games, he's averaging over 10 pts and 5.5 rebounds per game with only about 13 minutes per game.  The Jackets certainly need more size on the floor.  I understand he's been battling illness during the season, so it's great to see him contributing.  Gives Coach additional options inside.

With no RMC game tomorrow, I'll be watching this game played in the woods outside Farmville.

Quote from: hasanova on February 11, 2025, 02:56:17 PMI attended the Guilford at Roanoke game.  Roanoke is good, but the Quakers played poorly.  Only one player had a decent shooting night.  The 17 the Quakers have won, they've usually shot well.  The 5 they lost ... not so well.  Up and down.

Here's hoping they show up in Farmville tomorrow night!

GO QUAKERS!!!!

Quote from: Macon on February 04, 2025, 05:02:40 PMRMC fans, I just noticed a change in the RMC roster.  Joe Joe Dubrul is no longer listed.  He only played one game and has not been in uniform for weeks but on the sidelines, I'm assuming because of injury.

Wishing him well.
Ill ask one of my frat bros.....It also could be an academic casualty. Coach Merkel and our administration makes that extremely priority. If you ever ask about or suggest a young athlete to one of our coaches in any sport, the first question is about their grades, and thats a GOOD THING! OUR KIDS GRADUATE INTO THE GAME OF LIFE!

You may be right about an academic casualty given the timing, just as J-term ends.  Not knowing, I just thought it may be what I was seeing, not being in uniform.  I initially was hoping he'd add experience, size, and depth for the Jackets.  Either way, I wish him well in his future.

As to your recruitment question on grades, I had a frat brother's son really wanting to play for RMC.  The process was very short as he didn't have grades and ended up playing at a DI school.

Another topic:  RMC currently has 4 teams in the Top 20:  Men's basketball, Women's basketball, Baseball (preseason), and Softball (preseason).  Not to mention the Football team in the fall.  While this is common for RMC, many schools don't have one team in the Top 20 during a school year.  Congrats to RMC and especially to Coach Burns for his leadership.

^^^ Thanks, I obviously missed that part of the discussion.  Additionally, I was having some slight audio issues.

I was also thinking there would be more than one school with multiple gyms.

Thanks again.

Watched Hoopsville last night.  Great show BTW.  The topic of NCAA tourney hosting came up.  Someone said that Women get hosting priority this year for the first weekend and men for the second weekend.  While only a few teams would have both men and women qualified to host, is it even allowed if a school has two basketball facilities (again, even fewer schools would have two)?  And, again, the one or two schools that may meet these criteria, may not have the staff resources to do so.  Or is it a hard rule?

I remember many years ago, the RMC men and women both qualified/applied to host, but neither did because of a miscommunication between the men's and women's championship committees.
