Only got to watch the first half of the Blugolds tonight and even though it appears that was the better half for the Blugolds they just seemed like they were constantly fighting an uphill battle the whole half. As mentioned just above Renta did not play for the Blugolds which I'm sure played heavily into it, but even with him I'm not sure they pull it off tonight. Nice to see the improvement 1st year coach Zach Malvik was able to accomplish. Hopefully they can build on this for the future.

Blugolds down the Titans 66-56. Titans closed to within 4 at one point in the second half, but the Blugolds didn't let it get any closer. Eau Claire shot 17-18 from the line.
Renta went down with injury towards the end of the game and didn't return. Hopefully he'll be good to go Wednesday at LaCrosse.

Didn't get a chance to watch the Blugolds tonight, but my box score observation tells me they died by the 3 point shot tonight as they only went 4-25 on the night including 1-11 in the first half when Whitewater opened up a 14 point half time lead. Hopefully they can make a nice run in the WIAC tournament.

Casually watched the first half of the Blugold-Titans game. Blugolds had a strong start and finish to the first half to take a 9 point lead into half. Didn't watch any of the second half, but the end up winning 62-49.
Oshkosh led in scoring by Joey LaChapell with 15. Blugilds had 4 players in double figures with Renta leading the way with 19.
Depending on how Saturday plays out I think Oshkosh, Stout and Whitewater have a chance to be tied at 4-10 for the 5th-7th spot in the standings. Not sure how a 3 way tie breaks in that scenario in regards to playoffs and who gets left out.

February 15, 2025, 11:22:35 PMQuote from: tomt4525 on February 15, 2025, 10:02:28 PMRefs certainly didn't help things for the Pointers tonight, that's for sure. With that said, I've never seen worse point guard play for a UWSP team than I saw tonight. Passing was terrible, capped off by one of the worst passes I've ever seen by Butler to give Renta a fast break layup with under a minute to go in a tie game.
The Point coaching staff better start looking at the transfer market because at the bare minimum, they need a transfer PG to come in and start. If Manz/Grganto aren't serviceable backup bigs next season, they will need a transfer big that can take some minutes from Krohn unlike Hoffman this season.
From what the announcers were saying after that late turnover is Point does not have a true point guard running the offense.

February 15, 2025, 09:47:55 PMQuote from: Greek Tragedy on February 15, 2025, 08:39:32 PMI think the fat lady is warming up for the Pointers Pool C bid. They can't get the win at home versus Eau Claire. So now they will have to win at Stout and at La Crosse and probably have to beat La Crosse or Platteville just to get to the final of the WIAC tournament to have any chance at a Pool C bid. I don't see that happening after tonight's performance.
To be fair to the Pointers, I thought the refs stunk. Every time Eau Claire got the ball, a foul would be called on the Pointers, yet Point never got a call when they had the ball. It also didn't help that Eau Claire had at least a dozen layups for easy points. The defense was horrible.
Just a disappointing loss with basically everything on the table and at stake.
Refs definitely gave the Blugolds the big advantage in the foul category. I think one possession early in the 2nd half had 3 fouls called on Stevens Point. Blugolds go 17-22 from the line while the Pointers only 6-8. I'd have to look, but it seems like the Blugolds have been going to the line quite a bit more than their opponents this season. Both teams played pretty sloppy at times which resulted in 14 turnovers a piece. The one under a minute that gave Renta the go ahead lay up for Eau Claire was tough. Blugolds have Oshkosh and Whitewater at home to finish off the regular season.

February 15, 2025, 09:43:24 PMQuote from: '95 Blugold on February 15, 2025, 08:39:48 PMBlugolds go on the road and take down Stevens Point 66-62. Refs kinda put UWSP in foul trouble early in the 2nd half as I think they were called for 3 fouls in 1 possession. One of the announcers definitely was noting the discrepancy as the Blugolds outshot the Pointers 17-22 vs. 6-8 from the foul line. Bit of a sloppy game by both teams as each committed 14 turnovers. Point had a crucial one on a bad pass with under a minute left with the score tied that led to an easy go-ahead bucket by Renta.
Blugolds as usual led by Renta and Huschka who had 21 & 16 points respectively.
Pointers led by Josia Butler with 24 with multiple nice 3 point shots.
On a side note, very impressed with the Pointers TV announcers. Probably one of the better duos calling games in the conference.
Sorry, wrong forum.

Eau Claire fall 72-50 at home against #3 Platteville. Blugolds were within 2 at 24-26 a little under 4 minutes left in the first half, but things fell apart from there. Turnovers and some missed easy shots by Eau Claire left them in a 10 point deficit at half. Shortly into the 2nd half the Pioneers extended it to 20 and cruised from there on out.

Blugolds shoot 25% from the field in the second half as they let a nice sized lead slip away to lose 60-55 to LaCrosse.

Eau Claire didn't lead until late in the game in what was an uphill battle all game long. Down by as much as 13 in the first half that was cut to 7 at half. Tied it up at just under 6 minutes into the game and took their first lead shortly after. Back and forth the final 5 minutes until a Lichtsinn 3 with 12 seconds left gave the Blugolds the lead at 80-79 which would prove to be the final score. Big shots hit by both teams throughout, in what was a very entertaining game to watch.
Renta lead the way with 28 for the Blugolds, while Walczak lead the Blue Devis with 25, which included 5-9 from 3.
No foul on that Stout end of game drive? Clock issues. Hard to tell from a stream but lots of questions after watching that on WIAC Network.
Probably could have called it as they had called much less contact fouls early in the game, but probably one of those "end of game swallow the whistle" type of scenarios. I think the got the clock right in regards to when it went out of bounds after the first inbound attempt. Blugolds had more FT attempts, but Stout did themselves no favors by going 56% from the line on 9-16 for the game. The announcers even made comments on that a few times in the second half down the stretch.

Blugolds go on the road and take care of River Falls 71-58. Strong finish in the first half led to a strong start in the 2nd that had a lead build up to 20. Falcons cut it to single digits about half way through the 2nd half, but the Blugolds tightened things up from there to solidify the W.

That home loss against River Falls a few weeks back really looking bad on the Blugolds schedule right now. Hopefully they avenge it tonight in River Falls.
