Regarding my last posting... I did not think anything this absurd went on at  a state University but then the same source sent me this email regarding tuition (dated june 7th):

INCREASE IN TUITION AND FEES FOR SUMMER SESSION II 2006

At its May 22 meeting, the Kean University Board of Trustees approved an increase in tuition and fees of 9.9 percent for Summer Session II which
begins on July 5.  This decision was made based on the advisement and
recommendation of University Administration. Proposed reductions in aid
to higher-education institutions and the uncertainty in funding levels
caused by ongoing state budget negotiations necessitated that the
University plan for and provide additional revenue to support the
educational and general operations for the Summer Session II 2006 program.

Students who registered prior to March 30 and have already been billed
for Summer Session II will receive a bill for the balance. Bills for
students registering after March 30 will include the tuition and fee
increase.

Should you have any questions regarding your tuition bill, please
contact the Office of Student Accounting at 908-737-3240.

So basically you could have registered and paid for a class, then get a bill a month later saying "we are sorry but our costs have gone up please send more money".  Also if the board voted on May 22nd then how did they bill people the higher amount as of march 30th?  Kean is certainly living up to its reputation of being a bit shady.

The Kean situation is a strange one.  From a good source...  A VP at the school never liked Coach C.  Evidently Coach C did not attend one of the VP's photography openings (he fancies himself a photographer) because it was 4:00 on a tuesday in the fall.  Then at the end of the season coach started an award dinner and named an award after the AD and another after the school president and neglected to name one after the VP.   The DC trains the VP in the weight room and made it clear that he wasn't planning on waiting for Coach C to retire.  So when Coach C handed in an expense report that had a $250 charge for a room that he alledgely did not stay in they turned it into Travelgate.   Considering Garrett was seen at the Kean Gala (a $150 a seat extravaganza thrown by the Kean powers-that-be) you can expect them to open the doors (more so) to any prospective football players in the future.

Phil,

You are correct... Coach C did deserve better.   As for the admissions help. ..  The admissions policy is random.  It gave the staff no way of knowing if a kid could get in if he was borderline.  I know I had kids that were told that they got in only to receive a rejection letter.  As for special admits, they have to attend meetings that are scheduled during practice time.   That doesn't make much sense.

The Kean HC firing is a complicated story.  It took me a while to piece it together.  I have several former HS players at the school so I am interested in the situation.

The real reason they fired him is that a VP at the school did not like the hiring from day one.  He is a control freak that has made it is business to get rid of the HC.

The final reason they are giving is that he turned in a false expense report.  Evidently, he and the DC shared a room at the national convention.  The HC gave half the money to the DC who put it on his credit card (about $250).  Both coaches then put in for the room as an expense.  The HC coach also did not fly directly home, but rather to CA resulting in a more expensive ticket (less than $100).  Both expenses were mistakes according to the HC but the school used this as an opportunity to fire him.  Many obstacles have been put it the way of this staff including staff restrictions, no admissions help, lack of practice time (6:00 am spring practices).  It is not known whether the DC was also fired for the expense report or if he was assisting in the firing.  I guess we will know when they announce the new HC.

Phil,

Facts?  Coach C won't turn up anywhere else (he is 65 years old).  Garrett is too ambitious and worried about his career to admit what happened.  The AD is too scared of his boss.  I am sure they will  keep us in the dark about this one.   Too bad for the players.   The "facts" will never come out about this one.

I did some digging...  It appears that the AD is a long time friend of the outgoing head coach.  So it is highly unlikely he was at the bottom of the firing.  The president has his hands full with expansion to China and rarely gets involved with sports, so it must be a VP that is wielding the axe.

The team will be improved this coming year with many returners.  The program has steadily become competitive during this coaches tenure.  He was due for a three year contract at the end of next season.  Whoever wanted him out wanted himout before the 3-year contract and before they had a good season.

The DC is a VERY good coach.  But clearly he is not the one pulling the strings (nor is the AD).   It is suspicious they fired the HC without a press release or any announcement.  Also, there is no one on the current staff that is ready run an offense (Raciopi left).  Even if he came back he is real young.

Definately some funny stuff going on.  New Ass. AD whose hiring upset the women coaches.  Head basketball and Football coach let go without any press releases.   Track coach being left in limbo. Is this a job that anyone would want?

Definately something funny going on.  HFC was definatley fired.  No one at the school is admitting it.  It all looks very strange.  President is too busy setting up a campus in China.  Maybe they will have parking there.
The only thing I heard was Garrett would be hired if he was "on board".  No one would elaborate on what "on board" means

What is going on at Kean?  When are they naming a new head coach?  Is it Garrett (DC)?

Dr. xGSC,

I have far many more things to do than send a letter to JT.  Certainly, anyone can see the writing styles are different.  But I think it is in poor taste for people to be making fun of a college kid.  If you can't see that, then I feel bad for you.  Some things are more important than football, and being a decent human being is one of them.

JT,
That is a classy move.
Follow these steps for a good time:

Step 1: Receive a letter from an anonymous source.
Step 2: Post it on the Internet
Step 3: Wait for the gaggle of egomaniacal, pompous (and probably lonely) posters to make fun of the grammar of a college kid.  A kid who probably typed it in between the 5 hours of classes and studying and 3 hours of football.
Step 4: Laugh at the posts that come in from a poster from a highly revered school like New Jersey City State University.  Certainly NJCSU grads, with their long list of Rhodes Scholars,  Poets Laureates, and Mensa members, should laugh at another state school.

Real classy!

By the way, Rowan will probably win.  I doubt it will be easy.  Last year WAS far from easy and both teams got better.
