Excited to see my first Carleton/D3 game ever this Saturday.  I don't know much, but Augsburg sucks.

Have to say as a long time MIAC/D3 fan (~4 weeks or so  :))I'm glad to see something finally done about ST.

I think my failures as a father are becoming more evident.  My daughter's first (local) game (while school is in session) against a rival, for a trophy (the Goat) and the right to turn the Eagle, and she may not be going..... :o ??? :( >:(

I was all excited, reading the social media posts from Carleton and st. olaf and sent something to her, and she says she's probably not going to be able to go because of some quiz bowl meeting/tournament.

THIS IS FOOTBALL WE'RE TALKING ABOUT!!!

Oh well, I'll be streaming it in Texas.  Go Carleton!

Back from a great trip to MN dropping of my oldest.  Wasn't able to make the Macalaster game, but the wife and daughter drove by Laird in the fourth and took a video.  I know the kids weren't back to school yet but looked like ~400 fans in the stands (maybe less  :o).  It is what it is and the win was most important.

Was able to catch the men's soccer game Sunday vs. Grinnell and enjoyed that.  Wonderful state, town, and college.  Can't wait to get up in October for the Augsburg game.

41-0 and a trophy in a rivalry game, looks like my Carleton fandom came at an opportune time.  :)

Daughter and wife are in town now and enjoying Jessie James day.

Is there one D1 champion for the nation?

I assume that you mean D3.  Yes, there is one champ.  Here is a good FAQ regarding the playoff system:  https://d3football.com/interactive/faq/playoffs

I did, and thanks for the link!

Again, thank you very much for the history.  Soaking it all in.  Familiar with Gagliardi down here, from some ESPN pieces.

pied, like the Pied Piper,  I don't fashion myself as a leader of rats, it goes with the last name.

Getting ready for my excuses and qualified smack talk, "if we spent more money on coaches than professors...."

Really dumb question from a FBS fan.  Is there one D1 champion for the nation?  How many teams qualify for the playoffs from each league and does that vary with size/strength of the league? There seem to be 1,467 D3 conferences.

All the replies and the lay of the land is much appreciated. Even my cursory research led me to understand to not get my hopes up as far as a top notch program. O can't wait to get to some games. Wish I could have made this weekend but it wasn't in the cards. Going to be up there for parents weekend in October and CAN'T wait. Been to a ton of college games but haven't been able to make it to any D3 ones.

Hope to be able to add more than ask soon.

A note to demonstrate my football nuttiness/out of whack priorities.  We knew this weekend was when we were coming up, but weren't certain when/how we were coming.  My wife found some flights ~10AM getting in ~1-2PM.  I started doing the math and said uh oh, we need to be at the hotel or somewhere by 6:30, because Texas is playing LSU and that's a must-see!

Then I realize Carleton is playing at home at 1PM, and I tell her I either want to head up Friday to get to that game (and watch the Texas game)or wait until Sunday.  Well, our son(13 years old) has his first league soccer game Saturday so I'm making the sacrifice to stay here and head up early Sunday.

I'll watch his game/s, then stream as much of the Carleton game as I can at 1, watch the Clemson - Texas a$m game(go Tigers!), then the Texas game.

I'll meet up with them Sunday afternoon.  Priorities and all.  :)

Thanks!

OK, who can give me the basic run down?  Who's the traditional power/crap team?  Sounds like St. Thomas is trying to move up the food chain so I'd guess them as a strong program.

What about rivalries?  St. Olaf seems the easy one, and am I reading the board right that they are snitches?  :)

Probably a good time to ask if good natured smack-talk is allowed.  I do understand that my position as a Carleton fan, doesn't give me a ton of leverage, but it's all good.

Good afternoon from Texas!

Hoping to join you guys/girls in some discussion about MIAC football.  My daughter is going to be a freshman at Carleton and we're heading up this week.  Unfortunately she doesn't care about football or really sports in general, but typically tolerates my obsession.

I'm a UT Austin graduate and am used to an over-abundance of information and discussion about the team and have been looking for some info on Carleton for some time and finally stumbled across this board this AM. Read about a month back and appears there are not a lot of Carleton fans active, but I intend to be one, informed or not.  :)

I streamed several games last season as she was narrowing her search and will watch all I can now.

Can anyone point to more information about the team, previews, what to expect?  I tried some searches for local newspapers but didn't find much.  I understand there won't be near what I'm used to, but figure my searches just haven't been good enough.  In any case, I'm all in and looking forward to following the team and league this season!

(please forgive me if I ask stupid questions at the beginning)
