There's no video replay outside of targeting, right? Seems like that would be a good upgrade for the playoffs. I imagine there are a lot of great plays that go the wrong way each year.

From what I gathered we had officials from the MWC and the NACC for our games. The field judge looked to have rolled an ankle resulting in the crew being down a ref for a bit against SUS. There felt like a lot of unnecessary jawing between teams in both games that probably could've warranted an unsportsmanlike or two. Maybe I'm soft or understand after a certain point we're likely gonna have enough and do something stupid (like push the QB down after he's thrown the ball). The lengthy explanation of the false start was interesting. Would've like to see video of the hit in the middle of the field that popped the SJU player. Definitely a danger throw, but hit also looked high. All equal in gamesmanship though with the ref getting after the audio crew for playing music after the offense got set on the line.

Picked the wrong day to make as many mistakes as we did. SUS is quality. The majority of the team feeling the need to taunt the student section in celebration has me feeling a little bitter in defeat.

We've started to do a better job getting to 28 on the inside runs. Out in space not so much. Plenty of licks on their QB.

SUS definitely doing their best to wind up our players like LAX did. I think the team could do for a little more composure.

The loss of running Wheeler likely hindered our ability to look like a better running team. I think from a maximum talent utilization perspective we'd still be slinging it with Syverson heavily even if we could average 5+ a carry.

Catching Wheeler was held to 3 catches for 28 yards against LAX. Our other 1k yards receiving WR seemed to have a good day along with our 700+ yards receiving TE. This isn't the throw a 50/50 ball to your tall TE of last year.

My initial thought was the expanded playoffs have us playing a team I normally associate with being on the opposite side of the bracket given they are east of Ohio.

Their front 7 on defense look pretty big. Hoping our run game/short passing sets can create space, which is how we end up doing a lot of damage, for our mid/deep pass. Defensively we do well at swarming to the ball, but have had issues with opponents breaking arm tackles to pick up more yards.

The Cortland game looked to be at home which has its advantages. The stats from the Hobart game are interesting.

Kind of how we felt about Roste.  ;)

Limited sample size, but I feel like there's a calmness to his game this year that is different than last year too.  He was obviously still very good in prior years, but seemed just a tiny bit too fast / impatient (to my non-expert eye).  This year it just seems under control for him.

I'm assuming there's a positive correlation that the OL play this year has also improved.

I think "playing down" to opponents can also be the wins that were closer than expected. There have been moments when it feels like we're touching the hot stove in the first half or until the 4th quarter. The loses are the times we got burned. Likely perception than statistical analysis.

The highlights make me laugh as you see the decrease in UW-LX's need to signal the first down themselves. It's been discussed plenty but there definitely seemed to be some gamesmanship being played. Maybe to wind people up and draw some PFs.

Nice post game write up introducing the latest horse in the stable and how that play came about.

"The play - a bit of gadgetry that saw the Johnnies shift the entire right side of the offensive line to the left - was the brainchild of running backs coach Josh Bungum '16 and wasn't put in until midway through this past week."

Good thing they had a 10 minute "cool down" period after the game before kids and parents got on the field. SJU players winding up players and fans waving them goodbye seems pretty minimal considering the pre, half-time, and in game smack talk. Will gladly take the post game middle finger and win.

Balmy day in Collegeville. Slight breeze that shouldn't impact the passing attack. Aaron gonna have to keep throws below the helmet and receivers gonna have to catch the fast ones.

Bethel in a close one at half. La Crosse offense appears in sync with 248 passing yards from 9 receptions. OL tossed one for 24.

I don't think the coats came out during the regular season with the mild temps. Wonder if we'll see a return of the mega heater in the playoffs.

Quote from: OzJohnnie on November 16, 2024, 04:16:10 PMBU should move up in the rankings despite losing. They are a top 15 team. Maybe higher.

If beating the snot out of opponents doesn't move the needle maybe a smaller margin of defeat against a top 5 team will  ;)

Passing attack had a few uncharacteristic drops and overthrown balls while still managing to sling it for over 400 yards, 5 tds, and no picks.

Matt Jung is not real.

Looking forward to the madness that'll be this playoffs

Edited the comment above. Was not intended to take shots at voters or the outcome, and I'm certainly not looking to have a dust up with Pat.

Just wanted to see other perspectives other than my own for imaginary things. If Bethel was at #25 after the loss, all results staying the same would they likely move up? Conversely, would people say the competition was weak and going 4-0 with a 245-8 points for/against drop them out? Would they stay the same? Idk, maybe? It ultimately doesn't matter.

Would a Wartburg loss in the ARC change how people view SJU? Where would a Concordia loss put SJU? How would a loss impact either team in a potential rematch during championship week?

The only games left in the MIAC that seem to matter, for post season purposes, are BU vs CM, and the MIAC championship. Can't participate in the thermostat discourse as I'm not a homeowner, and guessing how many participate for SJU vs CSS doesn't offer much discussion. I'll stick to lurking.
