chapman won a hard fought game last nite at Oxy against a very good, scrappy Occidental team.  Mohler (2), Roshon (21) and Babij (35) are very good players and should lead Oxy to the top of the SCIAC.  Point Guard Kamiyama was the difference for the panthers.  she had 33pts. 5ast. and 0 turnovers in a very intense game.  every three **** hit was huge and timely. CU has Cal Lu at home on wednesday before travleing up north to play Santa Cruz and Claremont.

should be a good one between chapman and oxy tomorrow.  Oxy's coach seems to be pretty confident.

Two good wins for Chapman over the weekend.  The young guys on the team played well and the defense was really solid.  Cal Lu looked pretty good and even as a chapman fan i still dont know how the knightsmen didnt win.  The officiating was terrible in the Chapman/Cal Lu game i hope it was better in the rest of the tourney.

...One guy was the teams second leading scorer at 18pts. a night last year.  if he scores 18 in any one game this year it will be surprising.  I know these guys will be missing the system b/c it was definitely hiding players inabilities....

In classic 'OFS' style, you are misrepresenting the facts to hide your everlasting bitterness to a school that elected not to recruit you.  This player that you reference has absolutely taken a downward turn in production (please note the sarcasm).  He has gone from providing Redlands with 15.37% of their points down to only producing 15% of them, a whopping reduction of .37%  As always, your obsersvations are outstanding.

Sorry MWC room, but he elected to talk trash on Redlands outside of the SCIAC room.  I'll try and refrain from further acknowledgement of this poster.

Jordis,
Happy Thanksgiving.  I am not sure how you know who recruited me or how you would want to think you know that much about me (creepy),  but the statement was more about "the system" and how not having it has changed a program.  I know you already know this but, just in case you didnt, the new assistant at Grinnell
was the maestro of the system at redlands last year.  and grinnell will play at redlands this year.  thus the reason for the post on the MWC board.  Hope that clears things up for ya buddy.

I hope you are able to watch a lot of football and eat lots of turkey tomorrow  ;D

Location/home court advantage surely played a part in the difference in the game but...

the biggest difference seemed to be the fact that Chapman dressed 15 this year vs. dressing nine when they traveled to Texas last year.  the deeper roster allowed Chapman to press and trap everyone from Howard Payne, not just All-American Daniels.  Blalock is a ton.  She single handedly refused to let HPU lose.  When CU had a smaller player on her she scored inside.  when CU put a bigger player on her she started hitting jumpers.  Blalock was the difference, not location (a neutral site), and not the time of year (i believe the first game of the year for both teams).  HPU's free throw shooting was amazing as well they were like 35-39.  Chapman only shot 17.

HPU is a very good team, but i think a month from now people will be saying the same thing about Chapman.

Bob, what's Chapman hoops like? Whitworth plays them on the 23rd at Cal Tech.

Chapman has a good coach, Mike Bokosky. The Panthers are always fundamentally sound if unspectacular to watch. Looking at this season's roster, keep an eye on Chapman's two senior guards, Ramon Mendoza and Miguel Bennett. Whitworth should be able to handle Chapman without too much trouble. It will certainly be a more interesting game than the Pirates' game with Caltech.

If it's still playing in town and if you have time, I strongly recommend that you catch a screening of Quantum Hoops, the documentary about CIT basketball.

OxyBob

Bennett is listed as a guard but he spends most of his time in the paint.  Mendoza is currently coming off the bench and seemingly still trying to figure out his role on this years team.  CU's strength is inside with bennett, kaiser and freshman riley.  The perimeter is very young and as of right now the definite weak spot on the team.  Wood can be very good, but ramme, aguilar and vreeburg (first off the bench) need to figure out what it takes to be successful at the college level.  CU is very far away from having two of the best guards on the west coast.  now if/once the guards figure it out they could be good, but that is a really big if...

"Judging by how they won a game tonight scoring 65 points, I'm guessing Redlands is no longer running the system.  That Grinnell game out there is not going to be quite as exciting now.  Well, at least the Redlands kids know how to run it.  Maybe they'll get up for that game."

Redlands is definitely not running the system anymore.  Watching them play Chapman University without the system was an eye opening experience.  They have (i believe) three guys on the current team that averaged double figures in scoring last year.  One guy was the teams second leading scorer at 18pts. a night last year.  if he scores 18 in any one game this year it will be surprising.  I know these guys will be missing the system b/c it was definitely hiding players inabilities.  Watching Redlands is proof positive that "the system" turns bad players into role players, role players into good players and good players into all-americans and national scoring champions.

its great that grinnell is playing redlands this year.  maybe coach smith can talk arsenault into playing traditional style against his old school.  Redlands has 5 sophomores on the team.  i wonder how many of them are thinking about transfering to Grinnell.  they know how good they had it, and how bad it is now.

Chapman =  Very, Very Good!  They should have beat Howard Payne last friday (forced 33 to's from the #2 team in the nation) and looking at their schedule, they may be looking at another 17+ game win streak.  If they stay healthy and are able to mesh the new players with the returners this could be one hell of a season for the Lady Panthers!

amazing stat line for Grotberg last night.  34 minutes and only 4 turnovers with 7 assissts.  As a guard in that type of game that is more impressive than the 37pts.

someone mentioned price and beiard were amazing.  Beaird with 9 assts. yes that is amazing, and Price well I believe i have stated my opinion of his game once or twice on here....

Here's to hoping MC will pound it inside as Price and Terwelp will both be back next year.....
