Quote from: Riley Zayas on September 24, 2024, 05:16:44 PMSaturday's UMHB game against John Melvin has been canceled due to JMU not having enough available players. The Cru will have an open date, and start ASC play against ETBU on Oct. 5.

I'm relieved. As much as I love to see the Cru play, this game was a joke. I honestly thing our JV team (looking pretty darned good, by the way) could hang 100 points on them. Let's use the extra time to prepare for ETBU.

Quote from: zipmac22 on September 21, 2024, 05:27:14 PMFirst off...Congralulations to The Cru for a big win over Whitewater!

I'm having a hard time understanding the quarterback situation. If we have at least two other QB's with D1 experience what is the reason that Harmon isn't giving either one any playing time? I'd like to see the other QB's get a fair shot against Phe. Yes, Phe has developed and improved from last year there, but he is not yet there."

The 2 D1 QBs are both injured. Please cut Isaac a break. He just went into the home stadium of the #3 ranked team and completed 72% of his passes for a QB rating of about 169. I was at the game and thought he played darned well.

Quote from: tigerguy on August 28, 2024, 08:16:28 AMUMHB's ability to reload through transfers is unreal. Curious if any other team in D3 gets that many transfers each year, and quality ones at that.

UMHB has posted their 2024 roster including jersey numbers. As might be expected, the only two freshmen with varsity numbers were transfers, and I expect that more true freshman will work their way up to varsity in the coming days. The big surprise for me was Joey Verret, a graduate transfer from ETBU. He is a 2-time all-ASC (first team last year), and was all over the field against the Cru last year. As of today, he is not listed as a varsity player. What the heck???

A few takeaways from the Cru's last-minute win in their scrimmage with the Tigres:

-Play by QB1 and QB2 was absolutely horrible.
-Cormier's early injury gave Kenneth Miller lots of playing time, and he was outstanding.  Backup RBs look solid.
-The return game reminds me of KJ and Aaron; either Miller or Jackson can break one at any time.
-Run defense was shaky in 1st half, but halftime adjustments shut the Tigres down in the second.
-Jack Bruner looked solid in the kicking/punting game.
-How can we go 0-3 with the short-yardage QB sneak?

I could definitely go for a version of the Jase Hammack/DeNerian Thomas rotation from 2018.

I'll second that motion.  Until DeNerian was injured late in the 2018 season, that QB rotation had opposing defenses shaking in their boots. If you played Hammack as the passer and Thomas as the runner, DeNerian would wind up and toss a 50-yd TD.

I noticed that the game notes to the Austin College game were posted this morning. A little late, but I wonder if it was an oversight or posted late on purpose?

Interesting.  I found them on the UMHB website last Thursday...

Interesting to see the way that superlatives are awarded.  The Cru team gave the defensive game ball to Tristan Green.  The ASC named Tommy Bowden as Defensive Player of the Week.  And D3 Football announced Johnny Smith-Rider on the weeks all-defense team.  Looks like the Cru are spreading the wealth around.

Another note on the Crusaders' Saturday scrimmage:  Kenneth Miller, Jr (#29) took me by surprise.  It looked like the RB rotation was set with Thomas, Cormier, and Miller but Miller got carries early and often; the coaches obviously believe he's a player.  He's a small (5'7", 165), shifty guy who might make a nice change of pace from the big backs.

I see that the 2022 Crusader football roster has finally been posted.  Let the speculation begin...  ;D

I saw on twitter that Romello Cook appears to be back at WR.  I seem to remember him making some pretty impressive catches.  That might relive the sting of losing Brenton Martin.

Romello is an absolute baller.. I was talking to my dad about him the other day, hoping he would be back this year. Good to hear he's returning, I don't think it's a stretch to say with Cook, Brandon Jordan and KJ Miller we probably have the best receiving corps in the nation. Brenton Martin was fantastic, but if anyone can step in a fill his productivity, Romello has a great shot at doing so
Don't forget Jamaal Hamilton and Jerry Day at WR.  The receiving corps is really loaded.

I've watched Cru football since day 1 and I must say (after careful consideration) that the 2022 Cru offense could well be the best in team history. The OLine is big, talented and deep--plenty of experience, and solid backups. At QB, Kyle King is one of the best in the ASC. QB2 could be interesting, as Redding is hard to replace. I've got a sneaking suspicion that a QB from last year's JV could move up.  Plenty of talent waiting in the wings.

The WR group could be one of the best in the country. As noted, the RB group should be so stacked that Cormier could be moved back to LB.

Defense could be interesting.  Plenty of talent returning on the DLine, and the coaches rotated them in and out so often that all of them got significant playing time. Even with the loss of Fritz, the DB's should be solid.  The LB group is a mystery. Could Cormier be switched and become another Tevin Jones? Hill and Rangel saw plenty of action last year, and both are big and talented.

Fun things to ponder, but we'll know when we line up against Muhlenburg and Whitewater.

We've had the president of UMHB deliver Chick-fil-A and milk shakes last night. We shared prayers and tears together and it was a sweet moment. Their student Director delivered dutch brothers this morning. Their Chaplin came by for a visit and prayer. Their athletic Director is bringing us lunch today. We've also had several parents of football players for UMHB offer their homes, beds, washing machines and whatever else they could possibly do.

Hope all that is okay with the NCAA.  We'll be careful not to offer the use of a worn-out Subaru.
