Time for the mysterious "personal appt" that is keeping me out of the office for the rest of the day.  :D

Good luck to Augie and IWU, but not that much luck to IWU.  ;)

LU! LU! LU!

Ah, it appears to be time for me to run off to the "personal appointment" that is keeping me away from my desk for the remainder of the day.  Titan Q/Roop, look forward to seeing you both(hopefully!!!).

GO VIKINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :D

Pep-bands at schools with a music conservatory can be sorta funny... but if their conservies have the time to actually be in one, I bet Lawrence's pep band is pretty good! :)

I went to the Ripon/LU game earlier this year and seeing the connie band was the biggest shock of all.  But, the folks that participate are REALLY passionate about supporting the team (the Viking Wave that the guitarist leads comes to mind).  I think it makes the atmosphere in Alex even more unique and fun!  ;D

Sam, now that you've become a CCIW regular, don't be shy when the season is over.

Ooooh...i've been officially invited to the party!  :D

Fat chance...he wasn't a regular on his own board until about January! lol. :D You get those pick em results done yet? ::) ;)

Hey now, that was an unfortunate episode.  For the 2 years prior and from Jan on this year I've been on...well...way too much considering I should be working.  :-[

Maybe I should make up so Pick 'Em results and have them magically appear.  ::)

OK, I'm just catching up from the crazy amount of posts that came in last night, but most everything is out of date at this point.  However there is one thing that stands out as worth mentioning that you all forgot:

Little Caesar's Pizza for $2 a slice?!?!!

You can get a whole pizza for 5 bucks and you guys are charging two dollars a slice?  That has got to be the biggest rip off since the hot dog and soda for $10 deal I got at Yankee Stadium.

Lol...that's why I mentioned the price.  LU is making out pretty well.  It doesn't hurt that the Little Caeser's is only a 5 minute drive away.  :D

A slice is more like a 1/4 of a pizza. They cut each pizza into 1/4's not 1/8's so its not that big of a ripoff. They make 3 dollars on each pizza about. But with gas to go get it and the money to pay for the right to sell real food they dont smell of roses as much as you think.

The slices are good sized, but not that big.  ;)  IMHO, LU is doing better than this.  In any case, $2 a slice is a pretty normal amt to pay for pizza at a game (even at the D-III level).  What makes it such a steal for LU is the $5 to buy thing.  C'mon now, we've all heard the complaints about Alex.  Where do you think we're getting our (as yet non-existent) renovation money from, the trustees???  ;)

Quick report from Appleton:
1) The burgers at the Wooden Nickel in downtown Appleton are as good as Schooners'.

2) The floor at Alexander is good, the lighting fair, and the chandeliers are small and unimpressive.

3) When I walked in and saw the "end zone" bleachers for the first time, I thought I was in a movie set for "Chariots of Fire." I don't know where LU got them, but they have to be at least 50 years old. Wooden and the scafolding (sp?) is very thin. I assume they will support a lot of weight but I wouldn't bet on it.

4) The parking is nonexistent except for maybe 30 unreserved parallel spaces. I can't understand why LU doesn't simply pave the grass area that surrounds the circle driveway that leads to and out of Alexander. I guess LU likes to get their money's worth out of their maintenance crews to mow the grass.

5) Appleton is a neat town with a lot of big old homes. I assume it's a fairly wealthy city.

6) My prediction is that Keelan A'ovich is going to have a monster game vs. LU.

7) If Wessels doesn't play, and the latest is that he won't, I agree with Titan Q that Augie will be at a big disadvantage. That's a big blow for Augie, but they do have some depth at guard. Hope Kolze is on the travelling team as I think he will be needed.

Ya know? I don't know why they've never paved the grass either...I'm betting its b/c 90% of the time, the parking we have in the gym lot or across the road is more than adequate and they don't want to ruin the "feel" of Alex.  I'm sure any improvements to the gym which are (hopefully) forthcoming will include a change in the parking.  :)

Glad you like Alex and The Nickel...I swear Debbie should be paying the MWC/LU fans like me in free beer for all the business we're sending her way!  :D

i had been away since North Central's exit last week...but all this talk about bosses and teachers not knowing how long it takes to do projects is great. I agree. at a job i held during the summertime while i was in college, i would work MAYBE 2 hours total during the day.....my boss wasn't computer literate, so he figured things i had to do for him would take WEEKS when they actually only took a few hours. i kept a running talley of my solitaire scores and also started to formulate a theory about how the hearts game on computers cheats.

I had the same type summer internship.  Except my game was freecell and I played that all day long.  Too bad I didn't know about this site back then.  I would be an All-American, not just a starter!

That reminds me, how long until I move to All-Conference?  ???  Anyone? Bueller?  :D

Wesleyan and Augie's roster is the best of Illinois that didn't go to Division I schools; they're at those two schools," Lawrence coach John Tharp said.

A lot of names come to mind of Illinois natives that aren't on IWU's or Augie's rosters...

Chris Martin, Elmhurst
Anthony Simmons, North Central
Jabari Saunders, St. Xavier
etc

Then there are the D2 stars at Lewis, Quincy, SIU-E.....

A little hyperbole from coach Tharp there!

I love how coaches talk about the opponents before games.  Our HS football coach used to talk up a conference foe that hadn't had a winning record in 5 years (while we were the back-to-back MN State Title holders) like they were USC...hyperbole is the name of the game as a coach.  :D

Oh man, the guy was on the committee that gave your star player the most prestigious award in basketball and you are still taking pot shots at him?

Way to bite the hand that feeds you.  >:( :-\ ???

Sam, come back and control your people please.  :D

Yes madame President!   :D

Seriously though, does anyone REALLY think that Pat or anyone else tries to screw over the MWC? I'm not saying I wish there wasn't a pic of Braier, but Pat isn't omnipotent.  He does a nice job...think of it this way, he could update D3Hoops the way I've been updating my blog, which is to say terribly.  ;)

I think it comes down to a case of jealousy for all of us MWC fans...we're the MVC of D-III (both b/c we're that strong mid-major and the abbreviations are just too close to ignore).  I was jealous when IWU got the ESPN pub (why not good 'ol LU  :'() but I think Mike Woods of the Appleton Post Crescent said it well in an article today: But to draw a comparison to its more high-profile brethren, Lawrence was king of a conference whose overall talent would be equated to the Horizon League. Two of the teams coming to town this weekend, Augustana and Illinois Wesleyan, are from a league you would liken to the Big Ten.

LU/MWC fans...we'll get ours too.  As long as the MWC can continue to turn out high-caliber teams (rather than 1st round NCAA punching bags) we'll earn that respect we all so desperately crave.

In response to recent posts:

Please, God, let the basketball games begin!  :P

Spanglish was a very underrated Adam Sandler movie.

Sammy, any word on the ticket situation tomorrow?

I agree, Spanglish was good.

What about the tickets? I have some now.  ;)  I'm going to try and get some tix to the Augie game too since there should be plenty left overs for sale at LU.

My boss has no concept of how long it takes to do things.  I generally have some good down-time during th day.

I wish I lived in this world.  ;)

I wonder who would do better at running an RV Dealership. Braier or Hinz. I'd have to go with Braier for the following reason.

"If your truck needs a topper, come see the Bopper"

LMAO Roop!  ;D

Congrats to Chris Braier on winning the Josten's Trophy!!!  :o ;D I'm definately going to miss watching him play at LU!

Ack! Lots 'o posts....

I followed up with Justin and did indeed ask for a ticket earlier.  Justin, if you still have one I will gladly take it, as I have friends in Madison who were not as fortunate (or well connected  ;)) as I.  Send me a message and we can iron out the details.
