Haven't posted in here for years but just wanted to say congratulations to the BEST COACH in USA South/Dixie history Coach K. He started his career in the conference by winning it and it's only fitting that he went out a champion. Can't thank that entire coaching staff enough for all that they have done for myself and my brothers alike during our time at CNU!

I have been working like crazy but I wanted to say that I am so proud of the Captains. A lot of people including myself wrote you guys off after the Averett loss but sometime after that you guys got tough, nasty and started playing with a little CNU swagger. Be proud of your Conference title but remember now you carry the weight of the entire conference on your shoulders. No extra pressure, heck thats why you guys won all those games right? Good luck in Texas and continue to fight hard.

Kickerdad I don't want to sound rude but from what experience are you drawing from? Maybe 1-3 is acceptable at AU but excuse me for not wanting that for my program. As far as going easy on them I guess they should be elated to find out from a poster that AU played a ton of backups on the O line and they still won on the road at Pomoco. I have criticized effort and talent but not once have I negatively singled out any one player. I am a sales manager and work as a financial adviser part time and I am always truthful with people. If you don't produce the company will replace you and if you are not responsible with your money then you will end up broke. So excuse me for not lying to a 1-3 team by telling them they have outstanding talent when they don't and telling them that they will come through soon when the season is half way over. If the grown men in that locker room cannot handle the truth about their play or talent level then I feel sorry for them when they graduate and are welcomed to the real world.

I saw a bunch of coaches walk off the field upset and only 1 player and take a wild guess of who that player was? 1 oline starter was on the field at during some parts of the game and we lost is their any question that CNU's talent is in the dumps right now? As far as CNU being dead overall as a program I would say we must not be looking at the same team. A hungry group does not allow a team to play second and third string o line and your starting qb finishes the game. A hungry team makes #90 from AU regret the day he late hits a CNU qb with no knees for no reason. The o linemen from CNU let Long pick himself off of the turf as if he was not their teammate. Overall just a different team mentally and there is nothing the coaches can do about that. I am coming to homecoming in a couple of weeks strickly to catch up with some of my old brothers because what I saw yesterday was not CNU football.

KickerDad, was a bit warm wasnt it, throw in the intensity from the game and it got down right hot. Huge win for AU. I'd be lieing if I said I wasnt nervous after that first quarter. CNU defense came to play and holding AU to 3 points after three trips to the red zone was huge on thier part. Very good game by both defenses. AU 's offense sputtered a bit but think you can credit that to a hug effort on the part of CNU. Cant say enough about AU's o line. Group has been banged up all year. At one point only had one "starter" on the field yesterday, but they have become a group with interchangebale parts. A man goes down and they are able to plug in a new on. Right now they have 7 or 8 "starters" and have to credit that to the new o line coach .They didnt have a great game, but got it done when it was needed. Wilson (rb) is a beast. Big, strong and has some foot speed but most important really reads his blocks well. Makes it a bit easier on the O line when he is carrying the ball. Beleive you are correct, first win for AU at CNU.
Had a chance to talk with a few of the CNU players after the game, obviosly they were dissapointed but this is a hungry group. Anyone that thinks CNU is dead and burried, I dont buy it. Their defense played great and the offense had its moments, few breaks go there way and who knows.
Great game at a outstanding venue, an AU win, and a beautiful day. Bonus points, a short drive home. Hard to beat that...

Narch I had a 3.0 coming out of high school but did not do well on my SAT's and did not take the ACT until late my senior year and faired far better. I grew up in a small town and played single A football so while it was big in my home town I was not taught much about the recruiting process until after I got to college. Bottom line is if I had the SAT scores of the players on the team now then I would have went to a D1 or D1aa school. CNU was a great second option because it was close to home and I would not have to go to Fork Union etc before I could go to school. Also Coach K promised me that although it was D3 I would play in big/championship games had the opportunity to fight for a starting job, and play against some of the top teams in d3. He fulfilled his end of the bargain and I think I was worth 1 of his roster spots although you would have to ask him that question to get the most accurate answer.
And by no means am I saying that CNU should be allowed to recruit idiots that are just good football players but seriously if I am good enough to be recruited on scholarship by D1/FBS schools and my GPA/SAT scores allow me to get accepted, then why the hell would I pay to play at CNU? Make a case for that UVA, W&M, and CNU hmmmm if I want to get a good education and play football who should I choose? The great athlete & great student will pick UVA, good athlete & great student will pick W&M, and average athlete who was not recruited by the other 2 schools but a great student will pick CNU. And don't forget the great athlete with good grades in Va also can opt go to ODU or Hampton.
Now I'm not asking for anyones sympathy in the conference but there is a reason why CNU's football program is on the decline and it is not due to coaching at all. CNU has Phoebus ex head coach on the staff so in terms of recruiting how well respected is this guy by local high school kids. But how many top Phantoms or Crabbers etc do you see on CNU's roster none. CNU85 do what you can but I hope someone realizes it's ok to let good well rounded student athletes into school.

I was a 3 sport star athlete in high school, maintained good grades, and worked ever since I was 15. I was D ROY my freshmen year at CNU, all conference all 4 years including several other post season awards, worked off campus immediately following every season, graduated with a decent gpa, and never got in trouble on campus. In the professional arena I have been fortunate to climb the corporate ladder extremely fast and start my own financial services company part time. Now this is not a tap myself on the back rant but the point of my argument is if I applied to attend CNU in 2010 I would NOT have been accepted.
CNU has aggressively changed their academic standards in a short period of time and you would be naive to think that has not affected their results on the field. CNU's coaching staff does not overnight go from a staff that put together a South Region contender in 6 years to a staff that finished 5-5 and can't beat a 1-11 program now. I think we all can agree that football is a totally different sport than any other sport played. Due to not many kids playing both ways you have 22 starters minimum and you need at least 40-50 real good players if you want to be competitive on the national level due to how often starters get hurt. Looking at CNU's roster now you might have 10 kids that could have played from 01-06 and I am not saying that because I played during that era but even with the eye test we do not have the same type of athletes wearing our uniform. I personally feel sorry for coach K and staff because they have remained the same but their talent has vastly changed and they are still and will always be great coaches. Coach Legg used to tell me Holmes I'll sit your a$$ on the bench in a hot minute if you don't make plays because I got great players just waiting to take your reps. When you give up 30 plus week in and week out and the same kids are starting they continue to start because you don't want to give up 50 plus per week if you take them out. There is no competition on CNU's roster a to some of the kids like Diggs or Long and maybe a select few others take solace in knowing that you have the veterans respect because that old CNU pride comes out in your play every Saturday.

It's simple and plain CNU does not have the talent or overall heart it used too. There are some damn good coaches in that locker room and they will fall on the sword but they don't have the studs anymore. Maybe you got a couple here and there but as a whole it is not there. The Gulls were a below 500 ball club last year and there is no reason why we got beat the way we did if we had talent. It is sad to see but it looks like our best football years are behind us. If you are a CNU fan and you have gone to Pomoco in the past you know exactly what I am talking about. Talent is one thing but you have to have players that want to compete and want to go out and dominate other teams and that dog mentality is not there at all. I love this program because I help build it and I probably want them to be more successful than they want it for themselves but I have been utterly disappointed in this team for the last few years.

Mosh on the rise huh? Last I checked we still beat the Pride. lol just had to ruin your moment.
Current CNU players let the fact that YOU ARE THAT TEAM that finished without a winning record make you work harder than you ever have during the off season. I still love my team but I'm still extremely pissed.
Congrats NCW good luck in the playoffs.

Congrats to Maryville on the win.
To the guys on the team where is your pride CNU? Injuries=part of football. But you can't overcome that while playing an average team at Pomoco? 1st team to ever lose homecoming and 2 conference home games. Well I hope we can finish the season out with a W.
85 I feel your frustration just glad I was not there to see it. Probably wouldn't have been a good football Alum for some of the players to talk to after the game.

WFU34, it baffles me that you read what you want. Never did CNUALUM9 or I ever say that CNU is a national power already, we simply stated that, that's what we expected our team to become 4-5 years after we left.
Simple facts also show that the majority of those losses came from Rowan, Bridgewater, and good Salisbury teams which we are not embarrassed about. Also, no disrespect to our conference but I would argue that we have gotten much more respect from going 14-21 with our non conference schedule then we have by winning our league a majority of the time.
Also, how are CNU supporters extremely sensitive? Our former players have posted our disappointment that the new teams have not held up their end of the deal and taken our program to the next level. Our fans pay good money to come see us play at Pomoco and our job was to give them a show and make opposing teams fear coming to Newport News. When I left CNU, Bridgewater dropped us and McDaniel got tired of getting beat as well. Hell, UMHB first visit to Pomoco was an L, not because our team was better that year but because that team fought extra hard to protect our house.
We simply have expectations of what we want our program to grow into and when our players read this board we want them to know what it TRUELY MEANS TO BE A CAPTAIN. We took the lumps in the beginning in hopes that by now we would be giving them on a consistent basis. I want players to read this board and get pissed off because when they fell they have arrived we can remind them that they have not done squat for our program. Want to get the football Alum excited, win a 2nd round playoff game or the South Region.

WFU34 we will enjoy what we are and I will continue to expect more out of a program that I helped build. Year 1 we only lost 2 games at home and ended up winning the conference in the programs first year. Year 2, only home loss was to Rowan, a national powerhouse and ended the season by improving from the 01 playoff blowout by challenging a very explosive W&J team. Year 3, beat a top ranked Bridgewater team at home, beat a very good Muhlenberg team in the 1st round of the playoffs and the only home loss of the year came in the playoffs to the eventual South Region Champs Bridgewater. Year 4, 1 home loss to Rowan by 1 point, beat a good McDaniel team, beat a top 10 Bridgewater team again, and beat an undefeated top 10 Salisbury team on the road in the playoffs before losing to another explosive W&J team in the second round.
In our first 4 years our fans only saw us lose 5 times at home with 2 losses by the hands of Rowan and 1 by Bridgewater, won 2 playoff games, 4 conference titles, and defeated several top 25 ranked D3 teams. After our 1st 2 seasons we expected to win the conference and shifted our focus to making a name for ourselves on the national scene which we accomplished. A lot of people want to use the public vs private debate as a reason for a lot of CNU's success but the bottom line is it all comes down to attitude and player/coaches expectations. Take NCW for example. Not only have they beaten CNU a couple times in the last few years but they have taken us to the woodshed at HOME in big time games. Our nice stadium, facilities, and lower tuition didn't save our a$$ then because NCW didn't care. Their players and coaches got in their minds that they were going to beat CNU's a$$ and they did it.
Like CNUALUM9 said we were building a national contender and no one could argue with our resume in a short period of time. Years 1-4 we improved our program and I had hoped that we would continue that push forward. To sum up what we were building in 04 CNU did not get the AQ and still made it to the playoffs with a pool C bid because of our wins against top programs and willingness to play a tough non conference schedule. And I am not trying to relive any glory days all I am saying is I am and will always be a Captain and I feel a lot of current Captains are not getting it done. If the new kids don't want to play top teams and win then the Alums don't want them in OUR program. If your goal is just to put on a jersey and play a little football after high school then Virginia has a lot of semi pro teams that will gladly take them. Coach K promised me before I came to CNU that we would play in big games and play the best teams that d3 had to offer. All he asked of us was when given the stage that we did our part. That's expectations and that's why I went to CNU because I was sold that he would make me a winner and I bought in.
